RWTH Aachen University is a public research university located in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is one of the oldest and leading technical universities in Germany (TU9) and, with about 45,000 students, is simultaneously the second-largest. It was founded in 1870 as Königliche Rheinisch-Westfälische Polytechnische Schule zu Aachen in Prussia.
