Description
Electrical Engineer | Industrial & Manufacturing Projects About the Opportunity DSC is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Electrical Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will support electrical engineering projects for manufacturing and industrial facilities, working alongside experienced engineers, designers, clients, contractors, and other technical disciplines. Projects may involve industrial power distribution, electrical system studies, equipment integration, facility upgrades, and new installations. You will have the opportunity to contribute to projects from initial site investigations and design development through construction, installation, and commissioning. We are looking for someone with strong electrical engineering fundamentals, practical problem-solving skills, and a genuine interest in understanding how industrial equipment and systems operate. The ideal candidate enjoys technical challenges, works well with others, and takes pride in delivering safe, reliable, and practical engineering solutions. Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical Engineering & Power Distribution * Design, evaluate, and support low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems for industrial and manufacturing facilities. * Develop and review electrical designs involving transformers, switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, Motor Control Centres (MCCs), disconnects, feeders, branch circuits, busway, and raceway systems. * Perform electrical load calculations, voltage-drop calculations, conductor and cable sizing, and equipment capacity assessments. * Evaluate existing electrical infrastructure, utility services, and distribution equipment to support facility expansions, equipment installations, and electrical upgrades. * Develop facility load lists, demand-load calculations, future-load projections, and recommendations for infrastructure improvements. * Apply grounding, bonding, overcurrent protection, electrical safety, and power-quality principles. * Support emergency and standby power systems, generators, and UPS systems where applicable. Electrical Studies & Safety * Perform or support short-circuit, protective-device coordination, and arc-flash studies. * Develop and verify electrical system models, protective-device information, and single-line diagrams. * Review equipment ratings, breaker and fuse selections, relay settings, time-current curves, and electrical protection requirements. * Identify electrical hazards, equipment deficiencies, and opportunities to improve system safety and reliability. * Support electrical safety assessments, machinery safety reviews, and Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSRs). * Apply relevant electrical codes and standards, including the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), Canadian Electrical Code principles, applicable CSA standards, ESA requirements, and other applicable safety regulations. Industrial Equipment, Motors & Controls * Determine electrical requirements for industrial machinery, production equipment, and manufacturing processes. * Design and coordinate equipment power connections, motor feeders, disconnects, grounding, control-panel power, and electrical interfaces. * Support motor-control systems involving three-phase motors, starters, contactors, overload protection, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), soft starters, and MCCs. * Coordinate with controls and automation teams on PLC interfaces, industrial control panels, sensors, instrumentation, and control systems. * Review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder-logic fundamentals, emergency-stop circuits, safety interlocks, and equipment integration requirements. * Assist with electrical troubleshooting, installation, testing, and commissioning. Electrical Design & Documentation * Prepare, review, and interpret electrical single-line diagrams, power plans, equipment layouts, schematics, and wiring diagrams. * Develop panel schedules, load schedules, motor schedules, cable and
