About The Role We are looking for a talented mobile developer with comprehensive knowledge of both native and cross-platform mobile development. Our mobile applications for iOS and Android are developed using Flutter, and this role offers a significant opportunity to influence our product directly. You will be responsible for delivering features that reach a large user base, tackling complex challenges such as photo library integration, background synchronization, performance tuning, and utilizing native platform APIs. Your work will contribute to enhancing the functionality and performance of our mobile apps, ensuring a smooth and intuitive user experience. Qualifications Proven experience with Flutter and Dart, including shipped production apps Strong understanding of mobile platform internals on iOS and/or Android Experience with native photo/media APIs such as PHAsset (iOS) and MediaStore (Android) Familiarity with asynchronous programming, isolates, and background processing patterns Experience with native background APIs like BGProcessingTask and WorkManager Ability to work autonomously in a remote, asynchronous environment Excellent written and asynchronous communication skills Optional: native Swift or Android development experience, open source contributions, knowledge of local-first architectures, or media application background Responsibilities Develop and extend mobile app features to match the web application's capabilities Integrate deeply with native photo libraries such as PHAsset and MediaStore Implement background synchronization, upload pipelines, and memory-efficient media handling Manage remote vs. local asset states, including iCloud and Google Photos interoperability Create smooth, native-like UI components such as complex photo grids, timelines, and gesture controls Optimize app performance, focusing on startup time, scrolling, and memory usage Implement crash reporting, diagnose ANRs, and improve production stability Collaborate closely with the core team on architectural decisions and UI design Participate in code reviews and contribute to open-source projects when applicable Benefits Full ownership of architectural and product decisions Remote-first, asynchronous work environment with minimal meetings and micromanagement Visibility and recognition of your contributions in a small, dedicated team Opportunity to contribute to open-source projects and enhance your professional reputation Competitive compensation package Flexible working hours to accommodate your schedule Relocation assistance stipend for candidates outside the Austin, Texas area Equal Opportunity Immich is an equal opportunity employer.
