Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js, TypeScript)

$190k to $225k + equity. Fully remote across the US and Canada. We're hiring senior backend engineers (Node.js, TypeScript, Kafka) for a Series C, AI-native platform that's rebuilding how businesses trade with each other. The company Every day, businesses swap purchase orders, invoices and shipping notices with their suppliers, retailers and carriers. The technology behind it is decades old, and connecting to a new partner can take months. Our client has rebuilt it from scratch: AI writes the integration rules, and a pre-connected network gets customers live in minutes. Hundreds of companies already run on it, from fast-growing consumer brands to major logistics and industrial businesses, and it's processed hundreds of millions of transactions. They're backed by a top-tier Silicon Valley VC, about 100 people, and hiring several senior engineers right now. The work Every message on this platform counts. A dropped or duplicated purchase order is real money for a real business. You'll: Own the design and delivery of a major part of the platform, end to end Build high-volume, event-driven systems on Kafka and RabbitMQ that have to be right every time Lead technical design on big projects and plan for scale and reliability from the start Mentor engineers and work closely with product on what gets built Coding agents are standard here. Senior engineers direct them and review what they produce as rigorously as a teammate's PR. That makes deep fundamentals more important, because you can't safely review what you don't understand. You'll fit if you have 5+ years in product engineering Expert Node.js and TypeScript (NestJS and Nx are a bonus) Hands-on Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar, on systems you built yourself Owned the design of a major system or product area Time at a growth-stage company, ideally Series C+ or an earlier one with real enterprise customers Shipped production work with coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor or Codex A habit of thinking about the customer as much as the code Probably not for you if Your messaging experience is calling APIs or consuming a topic someone else runs AI in your workflow means autocomplete You need visa sponsorship The package $190k to $225k base + equity Fully remote, US or Canada (Pacific hours preferred) Unlimited PTO and a work-from-home benefit Stack: Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, Nx, Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS, microservices, SQL and NoSQL, React Process: culture call, hiring manager call, technical round (live coding and system design), then a call with the CEO.
