Since the 1980s, concrete portions of the hydro station have been affected by a chemical reaction called alkali-aggregate reaction (AAR). The reaction causes the concrete to swell and crack and has required substantial annual maintenance and repairs. NB Power is proposing a project to ensure the station can operate to its intended 100-year lifespan with a modified approach to maintenance and adjusting and replacing equipment and concrete overtime.As part of the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project (MLAP), the Turbine and Generator, Hydroelectric Electrical Engineer (Engineer V) will be responsible for overseeing and executing technical and project-related activities for MLAP Turbine and Generator Works. This includes reviewing contractor and vendor submissions, supporting project management functions, and participating in site and quality inspections.Key functions include:Design review - provide Owner design review of Turbine and Generator Manufacturer and consulting Engineer of Record submissions. As a project team member, work with consultants to find optimized design solutions that meet project requirements while aligning with project cost and schedule constraints. Provide oversight and engineering expertise on various hydro systems such as hydro generator and turbines units, station service systems, powerhouse cranes, emergency diesel generators, high pressure oil lift systems, motor control centers, high voltage switchgear, balance of plant systems and equipment, transformer systems, battery banks, DC systems, instrumentation and condition monitoring systems.Consultant Management during Construction - provide Owner oversight of consultant Engineer of Record (EoR), including managing the review and return of contractor submissions. Ensure timely completion of reviews and work to support NB Power's schedules, with results that are reasonable and supported by the construction contracts. Manage and prioritize responding to requests for information (RFIs) and queries raised by the construction contractors. Provide on site engineering oversight of turbine and generator unit overhauls and upgrades, including working with site operations and Contractor to ensure safety and high quality work is executed.Site support during construction - provide on-site support during construction and assist inspector resources with changed conditions and emerging issues as work progresses. Lead technical inspections of complex assets and oversee testing activities, in accordance with the EoR's field review plan, commissioning plan, or similar documented work order package requirements.Leadership - provide supervision and guidance to a small team of junior engineers. supporting their day-to-day technical work and professional development.Our ideal teammate will have:Bachelor of Science in Electrical EngineeringRegistered Professional Engineer licensed in New Brunswick or eligible for immediate transferEight years of generation experience including generator unit overhauls, upgrades, and refurbishments.
