Software Engineer

Onyx is building the consumer trading platform for the speculation economy - bringing sports, prediction markets, crypto, and real-world events into one seamless experience. Following rapid growth, Onyx raised a $20 million Series A at a $220 million valuation , led by Payward, the parent company behind Kraken, NinjaTrader, and Bitnomial. We are building a category-defining product with a highly technical team from companies including Jane Street, DraftKings, Robinhood, and xAI. We are looking for a Software Engineer to help build and scale the systems powering a fast-moving, real-time trading platform. This is a high-ownership role with direct influence over the product, architecture, and technical roadmap. What You’ll Do Build and scale backend services using Node.js and TypeScript Design APIs, database schemas, and distributed systems supporting real-time markets and trading activity Work with PostgreSQL, AWS, queues, caching, and third-party integrations Own projects from technical design through deployment and production monitoring Improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of core platform systems Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and trading teams to ship quickly What We’re Looking For 2+ years of professional software engineering experience Strong experience with Node.js, TypeScript, APIs, and relational databases Experience designing and operating production systems Strong understanding of database and API design High ownership, strong technical judgment, and comfort working in a fast-paced startup Interest in trading, financial markets, sports, crypto, or prediction markets Experience with PostgreSQL, AWS, Redis, message queues, WebSockets, Terraform, or high-volume transactional systems is a plus.
