The Role We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join the team responsible for developing and enhancing What If Media Group's Jangl Platform. Our platform is built using Python, Django, FastAPI, Flask, PostgreSQL, and AWS , supporting a high-volume lead marketplace that processes millions of messages each day and powers hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenue. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with 4+ years of backend development experience who enjoys building scalable applications, solving complex technical problems, and collaborating within an Agile engineering team. You'll work alongside experienced engineers to design, build, test, and deploy business-critical software while continuing to expand your technical expertise. Your Responsibilities Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services using Python and frameworks including Django, FastAPI, and Flask . Build and enhance RESTful APIs using Django REST Framework and related technologies. Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable, maintainable, and high-performance applications. Write clean, well-tested code, including unit and integration tests. Participate in code reviews and contribute to maintaining engineering best practices. Collaborate with product managers, stakeholders, and fellow engineers to understand business requirements and deliver high-quality solutions. Participate in Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives. Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to continuous improvements in application performance, reliability, and scalability. Work with DevOps and engineering teams to support CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based deployments. You Today Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related STEM discipline preferred. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered. 4+ years of professional software engineering experience , with a focus on backend application development. Skills Required Strong proficiency with object-oriented programming, particularly Python . Experience developing production applications using Django, FastAPI, and/or Flask . Experience building RESTful APIs using Django REST Framework or similar technologies. Experience designing and developing scalable backend services. Experience writing automated unit and integration tests. Experience working with AWS cloud services. Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL . Solid understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and development best practices. Experience working in an Agile software development environment. Understanding of the software development lifecycle. Proficiency with source control tools such as Git . Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience supporting production web applications. Experience with CI/CD tools. Experience working with Docker and/or Kubernetes . Nice to Have Experience working with message queues such as AWS SQS or Kafka . Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or DynamoDB . Experience with high-volume or high-traffic web applications.
