Please find the job description for the position below: Position Title: Senior Web Developer (WordPress/PHP) Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Remote) Duration: 6+ Months (Possible Extension) Job ID: SO# 437 Project Overview Seeking an experienced Senior WordPress Developer to lead the design, development, and implementation of a new WordPress website focused on accessibility, usability, and long-term maintainability. The project involves building a modern website utilizing WordPress core capabilities, Elementor, and established third-party plugins while supporting content migration from existing websites such as FoodFitPhilly and, if applicable, SmokeFreePhilly. The engagement will include three primary phases: Discovery Documentation Development Position Overview The selected candidate will work closely with CDIP's UX/UI Content Manager to build and secure the back-end infrastructure of the WordPress site while ensuring seamless front-end functionality and an exceptional user experience. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in WordPress development, accessibility compliance, PHP development, and responsive web design while adhering to WCAG 2.1 AA standards and the City's Managed WordPress Guidelines. Key Responsibilities WordPress Development Develop new website features and reusable components using: WordPress core Elementor Custom themes and plugins PHP HTML CSS JavaScript Perform limited theme customization while leveraging selected WordPress themes and approved plugins. Develop reusable, maintainable, testable, and efficient code. Ensure the website can be maintained and updated without reliance on the original developer. Accessibility, Security, and Compliance Ensure compliance with WCAG AA accessibility standards and web accessibility best practices. Implement additional accessibility enhancements where appropriate. Ensure adherence to the City's Managed WordPress Guidelines. Support website security requirements and collaborate with WP Engine hosting services. Apply web standards, performance optimization, and security best practices. Required Qualifications Minimum of three (3) years of experience in systems analysis, application design, programming, and web development. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Extensive experience with: WordPress development PHP HTML5 CSS3 JavaScript Elementor Strong understanding of web design principles and user experience best practices. Experience implementing WCAG accessibility standards and accessibility testing methodologies. Experience troubleshooting front-end issues and browser compatibility concerns. Familiarity with translation and multilingual frameworks. Knowledge of performance optimization, scalability, application security, and testing practices. Experience with common software design and architectural patterns. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with public sector or government organizations. Experience with WP Engine hosting environments. Experience with content migration projects. Familiarity with Google Analytics implementation and reporting. Experience building highly accessible public-facing websites. Experience supporting long-term website maintenance and governance initiatives.
