Job Title : Backend Integration Engineer Location: Oxnard, California Role Overview Our client is a large public-sector organization committed to delivering innovative technology solutions that support essential community services. As a Backend Integration Engineer, you'll play a key role in connecting business-critical applications, building scalable APIs, and developing backend services that enable data to flow securely and efficiently across a wide range of internal and third-party systems. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications, RESTful APIs, and systems integrations using Python, Django, PHP, and related technologies. Build and support integrations between internal platforms, third-party applications, and enterprise services. Collaborate with frontend developers to deliver seamless, end-to-end application experiences. Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following established engineering best practices. Participate in code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and quality assurance activities. Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability while identifying and resolving system bottlenecks. Implement secure coding practices and protect applications from common security vulnerabilities. Troubleshoot production issues, investigate root causes, and deliver timely, long-term solutions. Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to development processes, tooling, and integration architecture. Contribute to technical documentation, development standards, and engineering best practices. Education & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field. 5+ years of professional software engineering or backend development experience. Strong expertise developing applications with Python and Django. Professional experience designing and building RESTful APIs and backend services. Strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles and modern software design patterns. Experience developing applications using PHP and frameworks such as Laravel or Symfony. Experience designing and supporting relational databases including SQL Server and/or MySQL. Experience writing and maintaining automated unit tests. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams. Valid California Class C Driver's License. Ability to successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation. Preferred Experience Experience building enterprise systems integrations or connecting third-party platforms through APIs. Experience working within local government or other public-sector organizations. Experience supporting public safety organizations such as police or fire departments. Experience with frontend technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, or Vue.js. Experience using Git and collaborative development workflows such as GitFlow.
