About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior WordPress Developer with deep expertise in custom WordPress development, performance engineering, and modern web technologies. The ideal candidate is a strong problem solver, an excellent communicator, and a hands-on engineer who understands the WordPress ecosystem end-to-end — from Gutenberg block development to backend architecture, APIs, caching strategies, cloud hosting, and DevOps workflows. Responsibilities WordPress Development & Engineering Develop custom WordPress themes, plugins, Gutenberg blocks, and integrations following best practices Build scalable and maintainable backend architecture using PHP, MySQL, REST APIs, and modern coding standards Implement advanced WordPress features including custom post types, taxonomies, user roles, and content workflows Ensure compliance with WordPress VIP coding standards, architectural principles, and security best practices Write and maintain WordPress unit tests using PHPUnit Design solutions optimized for global caching layers, including edge caching, Batcache, and object caching Performance, Security & Code Quality Optimize WordPress applications for speed, scalability, and high performance using caching, CDNs, and server-level optimization Write clean, secure, well-documented, and testable code following WordPress Coding Standards and industry best practices Conduct code reviews, refactor legacy code, and ensure adherence to engineering guidelines Collaborate with DevOps teams on CI/CD pipelines, cloud deployments, and performance audits Technical Problem Solving Troubleshoot complex issues related to APIs, performance, security, and hosting infrastructure Debug production issues and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve incidents efficiently Provide architectural guidance and technical recommendations during discovery and planning phases Collaboration & Communication Work closely with solution architects, designers, and project managers to ensure high-quality feature delivery Translate complex technical concepts into clear, understandable explanations for non-technical stakeholders Actively participate in sprint ceremonies, estimations, grooming sessions, and retrospectives Continuous Improvement Stay current with WordPress advancements, PHP frameworks, performance optimization techniques, and emerging tools Contribute to internal documentation, coding standards, and knowledge-sharing initiatives Mentor junior developers and support the continuous growth of the engineering team Qualifications Education details Required Skills Advanced WordPress Expertise: Custom theme and plugin development, Gutenberg (React), WP Query, hooks, filters, REST APIs, WP-CLI PHP & Backend Engineering: PHP 7/8, OOP, MVC principles, Composer, modern backend architecture Front-End Development: HTML5, CSS3, SCSS, JavaScript (ES6+), React, responsive UI development Database & Performance: MySQL optimization, Redis/Memcached caching, CDN integration, performance tuning Security Best Practices: WordPress security, sanitization, escaping, enterprise-grade architecture Version Control & DevOps: Git, CI/CD workflows, automated deployments, GitHub/GitLab Problem Solving: Debugging complex systems and designing scalable, high-performance solutions Communication: Strong collaboration skills and ability to explain technical topics clearly Preferred Skills Experience with Headless WordPress (Next.js, Gatsby, React) Familiarity with enterprise WordPress hosting platforms (VIP, Pantheon, WP Engine) Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure Experience with performance audits, Lighthouse optimization, and Core Web Vitals Knowledge of DXP platforms and third-party integrations (CRM, marketing automation, analytics, paywalls) Experience working in enterprise agencies or large-scale publishing environments Show more Show less
