Job Title: Mid-Level Rust Developer Location: Remote - US Only Type: Independent Contractor (1099) Experience Level: Mid-level (2–5 years) Industry: Computer and Network Security About the Role We are looking for a Mid-Level Rust Developer to join our backend engineering team. You will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining high-performance, reliable systems using Rust. This is a hands-on position where you will contribute to core product features, improve system architecture, and help elevate code quality across the organization. You’ll work on challenging problems involving concurrency, performance optimization, and distributed systems while collaborating closely with frontend, DevOps, and product teams. Key Responsibilities Own day to day tasks within our tool Design and implement scalable backend services and APIs using Rust Develop and maintain microservices and distributed systems Optimize application performance, memory usage, and concurrency Write comprehensive unit, integration, and property-based tests Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers Collaborate on system design and technical decision-making Integrate with databases, message queues, and third-party services Troubleshoot production issues and improve system reliability Contribute to internal tools and libraries Requirements 2–5 years of professional experience developing production-grade applications in Rust Strong understanding of Rust fundamentals: ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, traits, and async/await Solid experience with the Rust ecosystem (Cargo, Tokio, Axum/Rocket/Warp, Serde, etc.) Experience building REST or GraphQL APIs Working knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and/or NoSQL stores Proficiency with Git and modern development workflows Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Ability to write clean, idiomatic, and well-tested Rust code Good communication skills and comfort working in a collaborative team environment Nice-to-Haves Experience with systems programming or performance-critical applications Familiarity with orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Docker) and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) Knowledge of distributed systems concepts (consensus, eventual consistency, CRDTs) Experience with WebAssembly (Wasm), embedded Rust, or real-time systems Contributions to open-source Rust projects Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code What We Offer Competitive salary and equity package Flexible remote work environment This is a 1099 independent contractor position Opportunity for future leadership and growth as the company scales The chance to work on greenfield Rust projects with modern tooling If you’re passionate about systems programming, love writing safe and blazing-fast code, are confident in your ability to independently own day to day tasks within our tool and want to work on meaningful products with a talented team, we’d love to hear from you!
