Description

About Stream Stream connects hospitality brands to the systems they rely on every day — from POS platforms to ordering channels like Square, Toast, DoorDash, Uber, and Grubhub. We power high-volume, real-time order flows and large data sync jobs that keep restaurants and retailers running smoothly. We operate in 20+ countries. We're a fast-moving company that ships at high velocity. We work in 2-week sprints in Jira with weekly planning, build with modern AI-assisted tooling like Cursor and Claude Code, and value equal voices, strong ownership, and clear communication. We're hiring a Software Engineer who genuinely loves to build — someone who drives implementations end-to-end, follows the platform's best practices, and uses every tool available to move fast without breaking what matters. What you'll do Design and implement backend services in NestJS / TypeScript that connect hospitality brands to POS and ordering providers and handle high-throughput, real-world order volume. Own system design for new services and features: API contracts, data models, workflows, and overall architecture for integration-heavy, event-driven systems. Build reliable, long-running workflows for order processing, sync jobs, and cross-system operations using tooling like BullMQ (or similar queue/job-processing engines). Build services that sync data across systems at scale, add an enrichment layer in the middle, and ensure robust functionality for restaurants and retail. Use AI-assisted development (Cursor, Claude Code, and similar) as a force multiplier — to ship faster, raise code quality, and spend your time on the hard architectural problems rather than boilerplate. Bake in logging, metrics, tracing, and sensible alerting from day one, helping shape our observability and SRE-oriented development patterns. Partner with product, support, and our Technical Partner Specialist to understand real-world integration pain points and ship solutions that make life easier for our partners. Improve our APIs, docs, and internal tooling so both external partners and internal teams can work more efficiently on top of Stream. What you bring Strong experience as a backend software engineer building production services and APIs — and a real drive to build and ship , not just maintain. Proficiency with TypeScript and experience using NestJS in production (or a similar Node.js framework and a willingness to dive into NestJS quickly). Solid system design skills: you've designed and implemented systems that handle meaningful load, complex workflows, or tricky integration patterns. Deep familiarity with REST APIs, webhooks, and JSON-based integrations, including API integration experience with third-party platforms. Fluency with (or eagerness to adopt) AI-assisted engineering tooling like Cursor and Claude Code, and the judgment to know when to lean on it and when not to. Experience working with observability tooling (logs, metrics, traces) and an SRE-oriented mindset: you care about reliability, performance, and incident reduction. Comfort working with large data jobs and asynchronous processing (queues, workers, batch jobs, or streaming). Clear communication and the ability to collaborate with non-engineering stakeholders. A bias toward ownership and advancement: you want to grow into bigger problems and don't wait to be told what to build next. Nice to have Experience with Next.js on the frontend (for partner portals, internal tools, and dashboards). Hands-on experience with queue and job-processing tooling like BullMQ (or equivalents) for reliable background and durable execution. Background in hospitality, restaurant tech, retail, POS, or delivery/ordering platforms. Experience building high-throughput order processing systems (e.g., food delivery, e-commerce, or other transactional platforms). Prior work in an early-stage startup where you owned projects end-to-end and helped shape engineering practices. What we offer Remote-first within the U.S., with a home base in Los Angeles, CA. Competitive, market-aligned compensation. Equity options — real ownership in the company you're helping build. High autonomy and flexibility: we won't micromanage you. In exchange, we hold a high bar — you'll have the freedom to work how you work best, paired with high expectations for what you deliver. The opportunity to join early and influence our architecture, engineering culture, and product direction. Why this role is exciting Real-world scale & complexity: You'll work on large daily order volumes and cross-system data pipelines that power real transactions for restaurants and retailers. Big architectural impact: You'll help define how we build durable workflows, integrations, and observability from the ground up. High velocity, high ownership: Small team, direct impact, modern AI-assisted tooling, and the ability to ship quickly with minimal bureaucracy. Grow as far as you push yourself: This is a high-impact role in a high-velocity org. There's room to evolve into senior/lead engineering, architecture, or platform roles — and you'll make as much impact as you allow yourself to.
