Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.The Emergency Management Branch was recently created to provide technical and professional support in preparing for, responding to, recovering from, and mitigating emergencies that impact the transportation network. It coordinates with public and private partners to address urgent infrastructure issues during crises, aligning with departmental policies and ensuring clear responsibilities. The branch leads all emergency events in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Currently, it includes 21 staff members - among them a Director, Assistant Director, several managers, and support staff. Since its inception, the branch has grown steadily and become a vital part of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure.What you will doReporting to the Assistant Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for:leading emergency preparedness, response, and mitigation initiatives to reduce disaster impacts on the transportation network;coordinating emergency planning, policy development, and climate-resilience projects with internal and external stakeholders;representing the department at the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre during emergency events and participating in interdepartmental committees;overseeing the review and updating of emergency management plans, policies, and operational procedures;conducting after-action reviews to evaluate response effectiveness and identify improvements;developing long-term mitigation and climate adaptation strategies based on technical studies and data analysis;managing mitigation and Climate Change Fund projects in collaboration with other Department of Transportation and Infrastructure branches and external consultants;providing technical advice and reviewing reports related to mitigation and emergency planning.Work environment:Office location: 440 King Street, Fredericton.Open office layout.Standard hours of work: Monday ?
