AI Prompt Engineer (Two Levels Open) Prompt Engineer & AI Prompt Engineering Lead Chicago (Hybrid) | Full-Time, Direct Hire About the Role A leading global law firm is building out one of its newest and fastest-growing teams: Data & AI. We're hiring at two levels for the same core role, bridging business teams and generative AI, with an initial focus on legal. You'll sit with lawyers and business professionals to understand how work gets done today, then design the prompts, workflows, custom GPTs, and AI-powered solutions that make it faster, more consistent, and higher quality. This role is part prompt architect, part workflow designer, part consultant, and part trainer. It is not a software engineering, machine learning, or data science role. We're looking for someone who's great at turning business needs into practical AI solutions and driving real adoption. The Two Levels Prompt Engineer: earlier-career, hands-on builder. 2+ years in AI-focused roles. Base up to $105,000. AI Prompt Engineering Lead: senior, owns solutions end to end and helps shape how the firm adopts AI. 5+ years overall, including 3+ years in AI-focused roles. Base up to $150,000. Same scope and team for both. The difference is depth of experience and how much you lead versus build. What You'll Do Partner with business stakeholders to map current processes and workflows, then recommend AI solutions to automate and improve them Design and build prompts, workflows, custom GPTs, copilots, and AI assistants using tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Claude Cowork Document clear requirements and manage delivery of AI solutions end to end Train business users on the tools you deliver and drive continuous improvement from their feedback Manage multiple initiatives at once, working independently with stakeholders across the firm What We're Looking For (both levels) Bachelor's degree, ideally in IT, Data, or a Business-related field Hands-on prompt engineering experience (more depth expected at the Lead level) Experience with Claude and/or ChatGPT (both is ideal) Experience building custom GPTs, copilots, or AI assistants Experience partnering with business stakeholders to understand processes and workflows, recommend solutions, document requirements, and manage delivery Nice to Have Building custom GPTs in ChatGPT Claude Cowork Jira, Confluence, or similar tools Building AI solutions for legal or professional services teams Agile experience in product or software roles Location & Benefits Chicago Loop, hybrid: 3 days onsite, 2 days from home 5% target bonus 7.5% firm-funded pension contribution, plus an optional 401(k) Full-time, direct hire Base salary by level is listed above.
