Role Summary A senior-level Lead IBM i (AS400/iSeries) Application Developer is sought to support, develop, and optimize mission-critical enterprise applications on the IBM i platform. This role involves technical leadership, system design, and hands-on application development within high-volume, regulated environments, including financial services and healthcare sectors. The position offers an opportunity to lead development initiatives, mentor team members, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain IBM i (AS400/iSeries) applications using RPG IV, RPGLE Free Format, SQLRPGLE, CLLE, COBOL, and DB2 for i. Lead full lifecycle software development projects, including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing support. Collaborate with business stakeholders and system analysts to translate requirements into technical solutions. Optimize database structures, including physical and logical files, indexes, stored procedures, triggers, and views, to enhance performance and reliability. Develop and maintain service programs, modules, binding directories, and ILE applications. Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes. Create technical specifications, test plans, and documentation for deployment and support. Drive performance tuning and SQL optimization initiatives to ensure high system efficiency. Participate actively in Agile practices such as sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives. Provide technical mentorship to junior developers and ensure adherence to best practices in development and deployment. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 10+ years of hands-on experience with IBM i / AS400 application development. Proficiency in RPG III / RPG IV, RPGLE Free Format, SQLRPGLE, CLP / CLLE, COBOL, and ILE architecture. Strong understanding of DB2 for i, including query optimization, stored procedures, triggers, views, and data modeling. Experience with IBM i tools such as RDi, SDA, DFU, WebSphere MQ Series, and change management systems like Aldon or TurnOver. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and collaboration tools including JIRA and Confluence. Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Experience working in regulated, high-availability enterprise environments such as banking, healthcare, or large transaction systems. Ability to work remotely and independently manage project deliverables. Publishing Pay Range: $100.00 – $115.00 hourly This is a fully remote role and can be performed from an approved location.
