Cancer Registry Specialist Location: Remote Start Date: August 1, 2026 Contract Length: Through June 30, 2027 (12 months) Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM CST Compensation: $25.50–$28.00/hour We are seeking a Cancer Registry Specialist to support the Central Cancer Registry by collecting and maintaining complete, timely, and high-quality cancer data from various health facilities. October and November are the busiest reporting periods, as registry submissions are due to the CDC. Responsibilities Assist Central Cancer Registry functions by consolidating reported cancer cases. Review duplicate cases. Perform case finding. Abstract cancer information from hospital records. Clean data through edits and complete follow-up for cases reported through death certificates. Process and maintain tumor-specific and demographic information related to cancer cases in the Central Cancer Registry database. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Cancer abstracting experience is required. Experience working with cancer registry data. AHIMA/RHIT experience or a medical background. Preferred Qualifications Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS-C). Education & Certification High school diploma and four (4) years of experience working with cancer registry data, or Associate degree from a Health Information Management (HIM) program. Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). Two (2) years of experience working with cancer registry data.
