Job Description Job Description Data Engineer - Intermediate Job ID: GOAPRDJP00000975 Rate: CAD 40 to 60 per our Term : 6 Months + optional 6-months extension Location: Work must be done within Canada (Primarily remote; occasional on-site meetings in Edmonton with reasonable notice). Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Data Product Analyst / Azure Data Engineer to support a major Government of Alberta modernization initiative. The role will primarily support the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS), which is modernizing environmental and natural resource regulatory processes. The successful candidate will design and maintain secure data pipelines, integrate data from multiple systems, and produce trusted datasets for reporting, compliance monitoring, analytics, and decision-making. Responsibilities Design secure and scalable data solutions in Microsoft Azure. Build data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse Analytics, and Data Lake Storage Gen2. Integrate data from ServiceNow, geospatial systems, APIs, databases, and other sources. Develop data models, semantic layers, and analytics-ready datasets. Use Python and SQL for data cleansing, transformation, and enrichment. Develop secure data services using Azure API Management. Apply data governance, metadata, lineage, classification, and quality controls. Implement privacy and security controls, including role-based access, encryption, and masking. Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data pipelines. Use AI-assisted tools to support coding, testing, monitoring, and documentation. Maintain technical documentation and work with business and technical stakeholders. Must have Use of AI-Experienced in using AI for code generation, data analysis, automation, and enhancing productivity in data engineering workflows. Experience building scalable data pipelines with Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, Workflows, Jobs, and Notebooks, plus cluster management. Extending solutions to Synapse Analytics and Microsoft Fabric is a plus. Experience designing data solutions for analytics-ready, trusted datasets using tools like Power BI and Synapse, including semantic layers, data marts, and data products for self-service, data science, and reporting Experience in data governance, security, and metadata management within a Databricks-based platform. Experience in Github/Git for version control, collaborative development, code management, and integration with data engineering workflows. Experience with Azure services (Storage, SQL, Synapse, networking) for scalable, secure solutions, and with authentication (Service Principals, Managed Identities) for secure access in pipelines and integrations Experience in Python (including PySpark) and SQL, applied to developing, orchestrating, and optimizing enterprise-grade ETL/ELT workflows in a large-scale cloud environment. Nice to Have Direct, hands-on experience performing business requirement analysis related to data manipulation/transformation, cleansing and wrangling. Experience and strong technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, optimization, and administration in enterprise environments. Experience extending or integrating data solutions with Azure Synapse Analytics and Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Semantic Models).
