We are seeking enthusiastic, reliable, and customer-focused individuals to serve as Election Officials for the upcoming municipal election on October 17, 2026. Election Officials help ensure a fair, accessible, and positive voting experience for residents while contributing to a successful election process.The Election Official is a critical part of a successful election. Individually and collectively, Election Officials uphold the integrity, transparency and accountability of an election. Under the guidance of the Chief Election Officer, the Presiding Election Official or their designate, Election Officials greet voters, effectively process registrations, issue ballots, assist voters, and may be assigned to a variety of other election day tasks.Available positions (to be assigned to successful applicants): Presiding Election Official (PEO) Alternate Presiding Election Official (APEO) Registration Clerk (RC) Election Official (EO)** Election Officials may be trained to support different functions within a voting location.REQUIRED QUALFICATIONS: Must be legally entitled to work in BC; Fluency in English is required with other languages as an asset; Past municipal, provincial, or federal election experiences are an asset; Must NOT be related to any candidate running for office in the election and must not be actively working for any election campaign or any candidate; Strong customer service experience and excellent communication skills; High level of attention to detail and strong numeracy skills; Punctual, reliable, patient, and a strong team player; Ability to remain calm under pressure; Endurance to work a 14-hour day and able to sit for extended periods of time; Ability to carry and move items such as tables and chairs; and Valid First Aid ticket is an asset.ELECTION OFFICIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Arrive by assigned starting time (no later than 7:00 AM) on voting days to set up voting location as directed by PEO; Assist voters in a friendly manner to ensure positive voting experience; Confirm voters are in the List of Registered Electors; Ensure voters have confirmed their eligibility declaration, and witnessing the voter?s signature; Register eligible voters if they are not in the List of Registered Electors; Issue ballots and provide clear instructions on how to properly mark them; Accurately track and account for each ballot issued; Assist voters with inserting their ballot into the tabulator while maintaining ballot secrecy; Troubleshoot voting technology as required; Assist with closing procedures and cleanup after polls close at 8:00 PM; and Assist the Presiding Election Official or designate with additional tasks as required.Additional Responsibilities for Presiding Election Officials: Supervise and maintain order at the voting place; Maintain integrity of the voting process and ensure voting procedures are correctly followed; Oversee setup and cleanup of voting place; Address voter and candidate representative issues when necessary; Coordinate breaks and rotation of tasks and other duties; and Assist the Chief Election Officer or designate with additional tasks as required.TRAINING INFORMATION:All EOs must complete a mandatory training session in September 2026.
