These systems include the LFG wellfield, flare station, compressor and related appurtenances. More specifically, the position maximizes LFG collection and utilization, and flare station uptime while at the same time minimizing the risk of landfill fire, emission of greenhouse gases/odours and ensuring the safety of the staff/public. Due care and attention are required at all times during data collection to identify problems and make corrections to minimize the risk of fire/explosion. This position is based out the Vancouver Landfill in Delta, BC. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Conducts monitoring including data logging for the well field, manifolds, and flare station/systems. Performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of instruments used for monitoring including: Landtec GEM5000, personal gas monitors, etc. Installs, operates and maintains the landfill gas well field leachate pumping system. Conducts routine field monitoring including liquid levels, temperature probes (permanent and down well), pipeline inspection camera operation and data interpretation, and equipment inspections. Performs preventative and reactive maintenance on all field equipment related to the LFG control system. Analyses, interprets, and presents data to other Landfill Gas Maintenance Technicians and landfill management staff, including identification of trends or anomalies and recommendations for follow on work. Liaises with contractors or other City forces (including Operations, IT, SCADA, Electrical, Survey) and consultants who provide contracting and professional services with respect to the operation of the LFG control system. Conducts landfill gas data management and analysis, using specialized data management software. Reading, reviewing and updating related safe operating procedures, operating manuals, etc. Conducts presentations and tours of the landfill and/or landfill gas system as needed for staff and members of the public. Participates in standby rotations and responds to callouts to maintain flare station operation after-hours. Backfills for other landfill gas technicians during vacation or absence. Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.QualificationsEducation and Experience: Completion of a recognized two year diploma program in Environmental Protection Technology, Environmental Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Certification in the Solid Waste Association of North America's (SWANA) Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) and LFG Operations courses preferred.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of gas collection and sampling techniques.
