About The Role We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Frontend Engineer to join our Client Data & Networking Platform team remotely from the USA. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for shaping the data layer of Airbnb's client technology stack, including the GraphQL runtime, client networking infrastructure, and developer tooling. Your expertise will directly influence how nearly every product team at Airbnb builds, ships, and maintains high-quality, scalable, and reliable frontend features. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product engineers, infrastructure teams, and mobile developers, to design and implement solutions that improve performance, developer productivity, and user experience. As a senior technical leader, you will mentor engineers, influence technical strategies, and drive best practices across the organization. Qualifications 10+ years of industry experience in frontend development. Extensive experience working with TypeScript for web application development. Proven expertise in designing and integrating with GraphQL and REST APIs. Experience working within Platform, Infrastructure, or Developer Productivity teams in medium to large engineering organizations. Strong understanding of client networking, performance optimization, caching strategies, client storage solutions, and asynchronous programming. Experience mentoring and leading engineering teams, promoting best practices for web client development. Ability to influence engineering strategy and shape technical priorities across large organizations. Interest in developing internal tooling and CLI applications; experience with agentic AI solutions is a plus. Responsibilities Partner with Airbnb product teams to identify pain points, pilot solutions, and promote adoption of standardized tooling and frameworks. Collaborate with Android and iOS engineers to develop cross-platform solutions that enhance consistency and performance. Engage with infrastructure and foundational teams to build scalable, reliable, and efficient infrastructure components. Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including architecture, design, implementation, testing, and on-call support. Mentor and guide engineering team members to foster a culture of innovation, quality, and continuous improvement. Drive technical initiatives that improve developer experience and product performance at scale.
