About The Role We are seeking a Senior Front-End Engineer to create sophisticated, client-facing interactive data experiences for institutional users. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, design, and storytelling, transforming complex datasets into intuitive, elegant, and highly engaging interfaces. The ideal candidate will think beyond traditional charting and dashboards, crafting compelling interactive experiences akin to those found in editorial and data storytelling studios such as Polygraph, The Pudding, and Pitch Interactive. These experiences will combine storytelling, custom interactions, and polished visual design to deliver impactful data narratives. In this position, you will collaborate closely with product, design, and data teams to bring complex ideas to life through responsive web applications and interactive visualizations. Your work will enable users to explore and understand data more deeply, making complex information accessible and engaging. This is a unique opportunity to influence how data storytelling is experienced by institutional audiences, emphasizing creativity, technical excellence, and user-centric design. Qualifications Approximately 5-10 years of professional experience in front-end engineering, with flexibility for exceptional candidates. Strong proficiency with modern JavaScript and TypeScript. Deep expertise with React or Svelte frameworks. Significant experience building custom data visualizations using D3.js. Experience working with SVG, Canvas, and WebGL technologies for advanced visual effects. Robust understanding of responsive design principles and modern UI development practices. Proven ability to translate complex datasets into intuitive and engaging user experiences. Experience developing polished, production-grade applications for external users. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams. Responsibilities Design and develop high-quality, interactive data experiences tailored for sophisticated end-users. Build custom data visualizations leveraging D3.js and modern front-end frameworks like React or Svelte. Create rich, interactive features using SVG, Canvas, and WebGL technologies to enhance user engagement. Translate complex datasets into compelling narratives or exploratory interfaces that facilitate understanding and discovery. Collaborate with designers and stakeholders to deliver polished, production-ready visualizations and applications. Optimize applications for performance, responsiveness, and accessibility standards to ensure seamless user experiences. Contribute to the evolution of front-end architecture and establish best practices for visualization development. Balance technical excellence with visual aesthetics and user experience considerations to produce impactful solutions.
