iOS Developer – Hardware, Video, Connectivity & Tactical Systems About the Role Pixels On Target is looking for a motivated iOS Developer to join our mobile engineering team. In this role, you will help build and maintain iOS applications that interface with advanced thermal optics and field-deployed hardware systems. You will work on mobile software involving USB/UVC video workflows, USB device communication, Bluetooth connectivity, AWS-backed services, and TAK ecosystem integration . This is an opportunity to contribute to mission-focused technology that improves field performance, situational awareness, and real-time device interaction. Note: This position requires a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident / Green Card holder . Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain iOS applications that connect with thermal imaging devices and related hardware platforms. Implement features involving live video streaming, UVC-compatible video handling, image capture, device control, and settings configuration . Build and support USB-based communication workflows , including accessory discovery, command/control messaging, firmware interaction, and data transfer where applicable. Develop Bluetooth-based features using Core Bluetooth , including device pairing, telemetry, configuration, diagnostics, and status monitoring. Integrate mobile applications with AWS services , including REST APIs, authentication, cloud storage, telemetry upload, device data synchronization, and secure backend communication. Collaborate closely with embedded engineers, hardware teams, UI/UX designers, product managers, and QA to deliver reliable hardware-integrated mobile experiences. Support performance optimization for video, connectivity, background tasks, battery usage, and real-time device interaction. Assist with testing, debugging, and troubleshooting across iPhone and iPad hardware, including field-oriented use cases. Contribute to TAK-related integrations , including situational awareness workflows, tactical data exchange, map overlays, device location, and interoperability with TAK/iTAK/ATAK environments where applicable. Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, documentation, and continuous improvement of the iOS codebase. Requirements 3+ years of iOS application development experience. Proficiency with Swift and familiarity with UIKit and/or SwiftUI . Strong understanding of the iOS application lifecycle, background execution, permissions, networking, and mobile UI development. Familiarity with hardware communication concepts, especially one or more of the following: USB, UVC, Bluetooth, serial-style command protocols, or accessory communication . Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, authentication flows, and mobile-to-cloud communication. Familiarity with Core Bluetooth or a strong interest in learning Bluetooth device integration. Experience using Git for version control. Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work closely with hardware, embedded, and backend teams in a hands-on engineering environment. Willingness to learn specialized technologies used in tactical, defense, or field-deployed mobile applications. Preferred Qualifications Projects involving iOS-to-hardware integration, especially over USB or Bluetooth. Experience building apps that require reliable field performance, offline behavior, ruggedized workflows, or real-time situational awareness. Understanding of video capture, video rendering, frame processing, streaming protocols, or device control interfaces. Interest in defense technology, tactical systems, thermal imaging, geospatial applications, and mission-driven product development. Ability to troubleshoot across software, hardware, cables, firmware, mobile OS behavior, and network/cloud services. Bonus / Plus Experience with MFi / iAP2 External Accessory development. Experience with USB-C accessory communication on iPhone or iPad. Experience with UVC video devices, AVFoundation, camera pipelines, video streaming, image processing, or low-latency video display . Experience integrating with AWS services such as API Gateway, Lambda, Cognito, S3, IoT Core, DynamoDB, or CloudWatch . Experience with TAK, iTAK, ATAK, CoT messaging, tactical mapping, geospatial data, or military-grade situational awareness tools. Knowledge of secure communication patterns, encryption, authentication, certificates, or device provisioning. Experience with hardware-integrated applications, embedded systems, thermal imaging, optics, sensors, drones, radios, or tactical field equipment. Familiarity with MVVM, Combine, async/await, dependency injection, or other modern iOS architecture patterns. GitHub, App Store apps, or portfolio projects demonstrating iOS, hardware, video, or connectivity work.
