Work can involve collecting blood and other specimens from patients; delivering specimens to the laboratory; sorting, recording, centrifuging, and preparing specimens for analysis; packaging specimens for transport to other testing locations; receiving testing results; and performing a variety of routine, automated, and manual tests.Job DemandsBy applying for this job, you acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to):Occasionally lifts or moves supplies generally not weighing in excess of 25 lbs. and occasional carrying, pushing/pulling, and lifting between 25-50 lbs.Constantly stands, walks, and bends or stretches into awkward positions when performing specimen collection procedures with patients.Constantly there is a requirement for fine finger and precision work when using needles to extract specimens, and when palpating for veins, when entering data into the computer, and preparing specimen labels.Job QualificationsGraduation from a recognized program in Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant is required.Training or experience in basic laboratory techniques.Successful completion of the Medical Laboratory Assistant national examination as recognized in Canada is required.A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
