Product Manager
Description
Product Manager Built By The Trades · Remote · Full-time (W-2, 40 hrs/week) · Reports to Director of Product Operations About Built By The Trades Built By The Trades builds software for the home services and trades industry. We are not a tech company that wandered into the trades. We come from it, and we are building a suite of products that help trade businesses run better and keep more of what they earn. The role We're hiring our first dedicated Product Manager. Immediate focus is one of our flagship products. From there, this role grows into the first PM function across our full product suite, and will help us evaluate and scope incoming products as they enter the pipeline. Our apps are built to work together, so this role is inherently cross-suite — you'll need to think in terms of the whole ecosystem, not just one product. What you'll do Own the roadmap for our flagship products. Prioritize what gets built, define requirements, and drive the product toward the state needed to maximize its value in a future sale. Stand up product management practices across the suite. As the first PM, extend clear specs, prioritization, and roadmap discipline across our full portfolio of products — working alongside a dev team currently stretched across many concurrent apps. Translate requirements into specs. Turn input from leadership, customers, and the field into clear requirements and acceptance criteria engineering and QA can build against. Own and administer our Jira instance. Set up and manage projects, boards, and workflows so priorities and progress are always visible to the team. Translate leadership suggestions into tickets. Convert direction and suggestions from leadership into well-defined Jira tickets — clear description, acceptance criteria, priority, and assignee — and move work across the board as it progresses. Balance priorities and resourcing across multiple concurrent projects. Handle several products at once at the outset, sequencing work and shifting focus as business needs change, before specializing on a single flagship product over time. Drive launch readiness. Create and own the checklist that gets a product from "built" to "ready to ship" — QA sign-off, documentation, training materials, and go-to-market coordination — so nothing launches half-finished. Coordinate QA and release readiness. Partner with our QA vendor on test cycles and regression testing, and help coordinate release timing across products. Build training and enablement materials. Support product training/onboarding content for the team and for industry events. Evaluate incoming products. Help scope new product opportunities as they come in the door (e.g., partnership-driven concepts), assessing overlap with existing IP, build effort, and fit with the suite. Keep leadership aligned. Regularly update your manager and broader leadership on roadmap, timelines, risk, and blockers across the portfolio. Who you'll work with You'll report to the Director of Product Operations, taking direction on priorities and translating that direction into actionable tasks and roadmap decisions for the team. You'll also work closely with technical leadership, our development team, our QA partner, and Ops/leadership. Expect a lot of cross-functional coordination. What we're looking for Experience as a Product Manager in a software company, ideally owning more than one product concurrently. Comfortable defining requirements and specs without heavy process — we're a fast-moving startup, not an enterprise PM org. Hands-on experience administering Jira (or a similar project/task management tool) — setting up boards, workflows, and ticketing processes. Comfortable managing shifting priorities across multiple projects at once. Experience working directly with engineering and QA through a full build-test-release cycle. Strong written communication — you'll be translating between technical, business, and field-level stakeholders constantly. Comfortable using AI tools to work efficiently. Nice to have Experience in vertical SaaS, home services, or trades-adjacent software. Experience prepping a product for acquisition or exit. Familiarity with AI-enabled product features.
