Responsibilities: - Provide user support to general users, beamteam members, fee-for-service clients, and CLS staff.- Beamline and endstation setup.- Assists with sample preparation and trains users on how to operate beamline.- User support beyond normal working hours in accordance with established CLS procedures.- Measurements and data analysis.- Supervise and support users to ensure that they are able to perform their scientific experiments in an effective and safe manner.- Analyse and solve beamline or technical problems and develop recommendations to solve difficult, complex or unusual problems.- Aid the Beamline Responsible in beamline upgrade/maintenance projects.- Develop technical expertise in specific areas of beamline operation and instrumentation including software.- Prepare beamline documentation and operational manuals.- Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is a requirement of the position. Qualifications:- For the Associate Scientist level, a relevant undergraduate or Masters degree is required. For the Scientist level, a relevant Masters degree or Ph.D. in the physical sciences or engineering is required.- A minimum of two years of directly related experience with a Masters degree, or a minimum of one year of related experience with a Ph.D. degree.- Experience with Infrared spectroscopic techniques is required.- Experience using microscopes, laser-based systems, advanced instrument development, and optics would be strong assets.- Basic programming skills in Python is an asset.- Candidates should demonstrate a clear aptitude for research, particularly in scientific programs requiring collaboration.
