We are seeking individuals qualified to work as a Research Veterinarian to support the mission of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Access to NIH’s unparalleled resources and niche scientific initiatives Duties Include: Provides routine medical care to research colonies. Provide routine and emergency veterinary care for laboratory animals in the TRP vivarium, primarily mice and guinea pigs. 1 Conduct regular health assessments and preventive care programs for all laboratory animals 2 Diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries in laboratory animals 4 Perform animal surgeries. Perform surgical procedures on facility animals, as needed, (spa and neuter, hernia repair, growth removals, dental extractions, etc.). Provide post operative care of all animals. Perform euthanizations as necessary. Maintains accurate records and updates databases. Maintain accurate and complete medical records, including those recorded in the facility database (including treatments, examinations, test results, surgeries and outcomes) and other records required by local and state laws. 5 Ensures facility compliance with federal, state, local and departmental laws, regulations and guidelines. Develop and implement animal care protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and institutional regulations and guidelines Provide training and guidance to research staff on proper animal handling, care, and use Serve as a voting member of the VRC ACUC 3 Review and evaluate animal use protocols to ensure ethical and humane treatment of animals Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to animal care and use Participates in small animal and non-human primate experiments. Monitor the experiment conditions and make recommendations to researchers on appropriate care and treatment of experiment animals. Certifications & Licenses Board certification or eligibility in laboratory animal medicine (ACLAM) - Current licensure to practice veterinary medicine from a U.S. State DVM degree from an accredited institution Field of Study Biology Zoology Software Microsoft Suite products Skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills - Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations and guidelines for animal care and use Minimum of three years of experience in laboratory animal medicine PLEASE APPLY ONLINE When you apply, please know a Kelly Government Solutions Recruiter will review your resume and will contact you directly, if your skills and experience match the requirements of this position; a full job description can be made available at that time.
