The Barley Merchant Taproom & Kitchen | Langley, BC We are an award-winning, independently owned, high-volume restaurant and taproom in North Langley. A 200-seat operation built around genuine hospitality, a scratch kitchen and one of the most extensive selections of BC craft beer in the province. Our food program focuses on fresh ingredients and handcrafted preparation, while our beverage program proudly supports BC breweries, cideries, distilleries and wineries. We are currently looking for an Assistant Manager to join our Front of House leadership team. This is a hands-on restaurant management position. We are looking for someone who wants to be on the floor, working alongside the team, supporting our guests and helping create the kind of culture and consistency that makes a busy restaurant successful. What you'll do: As an Assistant Manager, you will work closely with our AGM and owner to: * Lead busy Front of House shifts and support the team on the floor * Deliver and reinforce a high standard of genuine hospitality * Coach, develop and provide feedback to team members * Conduct preshifts and communicate priorities clearly * Support hiring, onboarding and training * Manage guest concerns and recover difficult situations effectively * Maintain high standards for cleanliness, organization and execution * Monitor labour and make sound operational decisions throughout the shift * Support opening, closing and cash-management procedures * Help protect and strengthen a positive, accountable, team-first culture * Identify opportunities to improve the operation rather than simply maintaining the status quo Skills we're looking for: The ideal candidate will have: * 2+ years of management or leadership experience in a high-volume, full-service restaurant * Experience hiring, training, coaching and leading a team * Strong communication, organization and supervisory skills * High standards for hospitality, cleanliness and execution * A hands-on work ethic and willingness to lead by example * A basic understanding of restaurant financials, particularly labour and liquor cost * The ability to remain organized and make good decisions in a fast-paced environment * Comfort working with common business software including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office * Availability for a combination of days, evenings, weekends and holidays * Valid Serving It Right certification Experience with FoodSafe, First Aid, TouchBistro, 7shifts or MarketMan would be an asset, but is not required. The person we're looking for: Beyond experience, we're looking for someone who believes hospitality starts with how we treat people. Someone who enjoys creating positive experiences for both guests and coworkers. Someone who takes ownership rather than waiting to be asked. Someone who understands that leadership means setting the standard, supporting the people around you and being willing to jump in wherever you're needed. Someone who is curious, wants to continue developing as a leader and sees every shift as an opportunity to make the restaurant a little better. An interest in BC craft beer and supporting independently owned local businesses is definitely an asset. Why The Barley Merchant? We believe there is a better way to build a career in hospitality. We are an independent, owner-operated restaurant with a hands-on owner and senior leadership team who are present in the business and genuinely care about the people who work here. Decisions aren't being made from a distant corporate office, and our managers aren't left carrying the operation for absentee ownership. We want The Barley Merchant to be a place where people can do work they are proud of, develop as leaders, enjoy the people they work alongside and look back on their time with us as a genuinely positive part of their career. That philosophy shows up in some very practical ways. A genuine 40-hour work week. Our salaried managers are scheduled for 40 hour
