Senior Backend Engineer, NestJS

We are seeking a Senior Backend Developer with strong server-side architecture expertise to support a fast-growing technology platform serving the sports and entertainment space. This is a full-time role focused on designing and building scalable, maintainable backend systems and APIs - not just individual endpoints - while collaborating closely with front-end engineers and cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in backend architecture and is comfortable working in TypeScript/NestJS or Java/Spring Boot environments. U.S. work authorization is required. No visa sponsorship is available at this time. Job Title: Senior Backend Engineer (NestJS / TypeScript) Location: NYC (3x per week in office) Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and APIs using TypeScript/NestJS Take ownership of server-side architecture decisions - designing applications end-to-end, not just isolated features Collaborate with front-end engineers, product managers, and designers to ensure backend solutions meet scalability, performance, and reliability requirements Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and architectural planning to drive technical excellence Support and improve the overall development lifecycle and team productivity Share knowledge and best practices with peers to contribute to continuous improvement Required Skills & Experience 5+ years of professional experience in backend or full-stack web development Strong server-side architecture experience - proven ability to design and build applications from the ground up Proficiency in TypeScript/NestJS or Java/Spring Boot/Angular; Node.js/Express considered as well Experience building RESTful APIs and integrating with front-end applications Familiarity with databases (SQL or NoSQL) and basic knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP Experience with modern development workflows including Git and CI/CD pipelines Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field required Startup experience highly preferred.
