Senior Backend Engineer
Description
About the company Our client is a profitable, fast-scaling real-money entertainment platform building at the intersection of gaming, fintech, and culture. They run two consumer apps, one that puts real stakes on original mobile games and one that adds a financial layer to the collectibles market, and both currently rank #1 in their App Store categories. The platform already processes billions in volume a year, serves millions of users, and is growing more than 10x year over year. They have raised over $65M from top-tier investors including General Catalyst, Goodwater Capital, and DraftKings' venture arm. The role This is a high-ownership backend seat on a small, elite engineering team, where you will own a large slice of the systems that power real-money consumer products at massive scale. Engineers who deliver here pick up more scope, responsibility, and recognition, fast. What you'll do • Build consumer-facing backend features end-to-end that move the company's core business metrics. • Solve hard, data-driven problems like optimal matchmaking, anti-fraud, and recommendation systems. • Design and operate high-volume systems that move real money reliably and safely. • Improve engineering velocity through better CI/CD, experimentation platforms, and internal tooling. • Take projects from idea to production with minimal direction, and keep raising the reliability bar across the team. What we're looking for • 3 to 8 years of backend software engineering experience, ideally with Go. • Time at a fast-growing startup or another environment with a high engineering bar. • A track record of owning and shipping consumer-facing backend features with measurable business impact. • Experience with data-driven systems such as matchmaking, anti-fraud, or recommendation engines. • Proficiency in Go, or a strong track record of ramping quickly into a new language. • A BS in Computer Science or a related technical field. Bonus points • Hands-on experience improving CI/CD pipelines or experimentation platforms. • Background in real-money, marketplace, or high-volume transactional systems. • Comfort operating with high agency in a low-process, fast-moving team. Compensation and benefits • Base salary: $200K to $400K. • Competitive equity. • Visa sponsorship available (open to transfers). Location and work model • San Francisco, CA. On-site, 5 days per week. • Full-time. Show more Show less
