Job Summary Our client, a leading energy and utility provider, is seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer / Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator to join their team. This individual contributor will lead complex migrations of Oracle, SQL Server, and on-premises PostgreSQL databases to Amazon RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL while supporting database administration, automation, monitoring, performance, and operational handoff. Contract Details Contract position from August 17, 2026 through February 26, 2027 Potential extension based on project progress Oakland, CA Onsite work in Oakland is mandatory, with occasional travel to San Ramon Candidates must already be located in California; relocation will not be considered Core Responsibilities Lead end-to-end Oracle, SQL Server, and on-premises PostgreSQL migrations to Amazon RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL Perform migration assessments, schema conversions, compatibility analyses, testing, cutover, validation, optimization, and operational handoff Administer, configure, upgrade, patch, secure, monitor, and maintain enterprise PostgreSQL environments Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, execution-plan analysis, capacity planning, and workload analysis Implement PostgreSQL backup, recovery, replication, high-availability, and disaster-recovery solutions Automate database administration, infrastructure provisioning, health checks, monitoring, and alerting using Terraform, AWS CLI, and AWS-native services Troubleshoot production incidents, conduct root-cause analysis, and partner with application, infrastructure, cloud architecture, and operations teams Required Skills/Experience (Must-Haves) 10+ years of database administration experience with deep enterprise PostgreSQL expertise Hands-on experience migrating Oracle and SQL Server databases to PostgreSQL Strong experience administering PostgreSQL across production, development, QA, test, and disaster-recovery environments Hands-on experience with Amazon RDS PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, and AWS database services Experience with AWS DMS, AWS SCT, CloudWatch, AWS CLI, and Terraform Expertise in PostgreSQL performance tuning, security, backup and recovery, replication, high availability, and migration validation Current AWS certification is mandatory Preferred Skills/Experience (Nice-to-Haves) AWS Certified Database – Specialty or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional PostgreSQL Professional certification Azure cloud database experience Experience with Broadcom, ServiceNow, or other enterprise monitoring platforms Experience supporting utility, financial-services, or other regulated environments DevOps, CI/CD, Kubernetes, or containerized PostgreSQL experience Experience with pgBouncer, Pgpool-II, Patroni, or similar PostgreSQL high-availability tools Key Competencies & Behaviors Self-directed and able to manage migrations from source assessment through operational handoff Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and technical problem-solving skills Detail-oriented with a focus on security, reliability, performance, and minimal business disruption Collaborative and able to partner effectively with application, infrastructure, architecture, and operations teams Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and knowledge transfer Work Environment Location: Oakland, CA Work Arrangement: Onsite; occasional travel to San Ramon may be required Candidates must already reside in California and be available for an in-person second-round interview in Oakland Compensation & Benefits Pay Range: The approximate pay range for this position is between $49.00 and $70.00 per hour. Please note that the pay range provided is a good-faith estimate. Final compensation may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, background, knowledge, skills, and location.
