Description

About Mothership We are applying AI to the complex, unpredictable physical world. We link machine learning with tangible logistics operations, ensuring that your code directly moves real-world goods, scales global supply chains, and impacts actual infrastructure. If you want to build durable technology that AI can't simply abstract away, this is where you belong. Role Overview As a Senior Software Engineer on the Internal team, you’ll own the applications, workflows, and systems that help Mothership run a high-velocity shipping marketplace. This is a product engineering role with broad software surface area and direct business impact. You will have the unique opportunity to not only work alongside AI, but to creatively apply novel AI solutions to legacy freight and financial problems that have frustrated the industry for decades. You’ll work across customer-impacting features, internal operations tools, marketplace workflows, business systems, payments, reporting, and integrations. The common thread is building reliable software around the operational reality of freight: complex state, high-value transactions, customer organizations, internal teams, documents, exceptions, and workflows that need to be fast, accurate, and easy to operate. You’ll partner directly with Product, Finance, Operations, and company leadership to architect financial infrastructure and operational products that demand absolute precision, reliability, and scale. This is not a maintenance role; it’s deep, hands-on engineering at the intersection of fintech, AI, and physical logistics. Core Tech Stack Based on our current enterprise integrations and engineering standards, you will primarily work with: Languages & Frameworks: TypeScript, Node.js, React, NestJS, BullMQ Infrastructure & Datastores: Postgres, Redis, Kafka, Core Systems & Integrations: Payments (Stripe), ERP (NetSuite), EDI, CRM & Claims (HubSpot) What You’ll Do Operational Product Systems: Engineer and evolve the internal product surfaces and backend systems that help our teams manage complex customer, shipment, and revenue workflows. Payments & Revenue Platform : Build and improve the software that supports payments, settlements, reconciliation, reporting, and financial integrations across our marketplace. Document & Workflow Automation: Partner with Data and AI teams to build automation workflows that ingest, interpret, route, and reconcile operational and financial information with minimal human intervention. Integration Ownership: Build and maintain deep integrations with modern payment processors and enterprise finance platforms, ensuring reliable, high-fidelity data flows across the business. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner across engineering, product, finance, and operations to design customer workflows that are fast, precise, auditable, and resilient under scale. Risk Mitigation: Identify and eliminate bottlenecks, race conditions, data quality issues, reconciliation gaps, and operational risks before they affect customers, Finance, or internal teams. Operational Control: Build internal tools, dashboards, and automations that give teams clear visibility into system state, financial state, exceptions, required actions, and customer-impacting issues. System Optimization: Lead deep dives into data accuracy, core reliability, and performance optimization to ensure every single transaction is accounted for perfectly. What You Bring 4+ Years of Backend Experience: Proven track record building, scaling, or maintaining business-critical systems where accuracy, reliability, and operational correctness are non-negotiable. Payments Architecture: Hands-on experience architecting resilient payments product infrastructure, including payment processing flows, ledgering, reconciliation, integrations, and distributed services that support high-volume, business-critical financial operations. Domain Context: Strong mental model of accounting concepts, ledgers, double-entry bookkeeping, reconciliation, and financial data models. Payments & ERP Integration: Hands-on experience integrating with modern payment processors such as Stripe and enterprise finance platforms such as NetSuite. Product Engineering Range : Ability to work across backend services, frontend product surfaces, internal tools, and operational workflows with strong ownership and product judgment. System Design Fundamentals: Strong fundamentals in data modeling, system design, and distributed systems, with the ability to reason through complex state machines, race conditions, and asynchronous, event-driven workflows. Pragmatic Debugging: Exceptional analytical instincts; able to trace data discrepancies, payment failures, and system inconsistencies to root cause and implement durable fixes. Cross-Functional Execution: Clear, thoughtful communication and a collaborative approach that helps Product, Finance, Operations, and other Engineering teams align quickly and ship high-quality software. Why Mothership You won’t be a small cog in a massive system. You’ll join a small, tight, talented team of engineers that moves quickly, operates autonomously, and stays focused on shipping. You’ll be the engineer shaping the application architecture and its direct business impact. If you’re driven by mission, addicted to hard problems, and obsessed with financial precision, Mothership is where you’ll do the best work of your career. Critical Application Disclaimers ⚠️ AI-Assisted Candidate Policy: Mothership maintains strict standards for engineering talent. Candidates utilizing AI generation tools, LLMs, or automated writing/coding aids during any part of the application or screening pipeline will be immediately disqualified. 🛑 Mandatory In-Person Testing: To ensure authentic technical competency, core logic evaluation, and architectural system-design proficiency, all coding tests and technical interview rounds will be conducted strictly in-person . No remote testing accommodations will be granted for this requirement. Show more Show less
