We are currently seeking a Web Application Developer . Local candidates within one hour of Philadelphia, PA are required. The work schedule is hybrid, with two days onsite in Philadelphia, PA. There is no option for a fully remote work schedule. Position overview Our client is seeking an experienced WordPress Web Developer to design, build, secure, and maintain a new public-facing website. The website will be developed using WordPress core functionality, Elementor, and established third-party plugins, with a strong focus on accessibility, usability, mobile responsiveness, security, and long-term maintainability. The selected consultant will work closely with the client’s UX/UI Content Manager and other cross-functional stakeholders throughout the discovery, documentation, development, testing, content migration, and post-launch support phases. The project includes developing a new site architecture, configuring key functionality, and migrating content from existing websites, as applicable. The completed website must be easy for internal staff to update and maintain without ongoing reliance on the original developer. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and secure the back end of a WordPress website. Build new features and reusable WordPress components using: WordPress themes and plugins PHP HTML CSS JavaScript Configure and customize a selected WordPress theme, with limited custom development as needed. Develop responsive, user-friendly interfaces that function effectively across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. Ensure the website meets WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards and applicable web-development best practices. Collaborate with the UX/UI Content Manager to ensure front-end designs are technically feasible and function as intended. Work with branding, content, and design stakeholders to align the website’s appearance and functionality with the client’s vision. Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to evaluate and implement new features. Build reusable, testable, efficient, and maintainable code. Ensure the website can be updated and maintained by internal staff after project completion. Support content migration from existing public-facing websites. Troubleshoot and resolve front-end and back-end issues. Address defects and bug fixes throughout development and testing. Support additional development needs identified through UX and accessibility testing. Maintain compliance with the client’s managed WordPress standards and hosting requirements. Website Functionality The developer will create the technical foundation for a website that includes: A rotating homepage banner Sitewide search functionality File-sharing and document-download capabilities Mobile-responsive browsing Google Analytics integration Accessibility features that meet or exceed WCAG Level AA standards Secure and maintainable WordPress architecture Translation-framework compatibility Appropriate performance, scalability, security, and testing controls The original project scope identified April 2026 as the target date for the full website launch. Maintenance and Support The engagement may include ongoing monthly maintenance and technical support, including: WordPress core updates Plugin and theme updates Security and performance monitoring Minor website enhancements Troubleshooting and issue resolution Coordination with the managed WordPress hosting provider Technical guidance and support for the client’s internal team Required Qualifications At least three years of experience in systems analysis, programming, application design, or web development. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, professional training, and relevant work experience. Extensive development experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining WordPress websites. Experience creating or customizing WordPress themes and plugins. Familiarity with Elementor and established third-party WordPress plugins. Knowledge of responsive and mobile-first development practices. Understanding of user interface and visual design principles. Familiarity with digital accessibility standards, including WCAG Level AA. Experience troubleshooting front-end functionality and cross-browser issues. Experience working with translation or localization frameworks. Understanding of application performance, scalability, security, and testing. Familiarity with common software-design and architectural patterns. Ability to write reusable, testable, efficient, and maintainable code.
