About The Role We are seeking a mid-level Software Engineer to join our Rapid Prototyping Group (RPG) at L3Harris Technologies. In this role, you will be instrumental in transforming innovative ideas into functional capabilities at a rapid pace. Your primary responsibility will be to design, develop, test, and refine quick-turn software prototypes that support proof-of-concept efforts, emerging technology evaluations, customer demonstrations, and early-stage product development. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, including hardware, RF, mechanical, and systems engineers, to solve complex problems and adapt to evolving requirements in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, versatile developer who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys experimenting with new technologies, and is motivated by seeing ideas move rapidly from concept to capability. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a visible impact on future products and solutions, contributing to national security and technological advancement. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess at least 2 years of embedded software engineering experience, with a strong educational background. A Bachelor's Degree combined with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience is required. Candidates holding a Graduate Degree should have at least 2 years of related experience, while those without a degree must demonstrate a minimum of 8 years of relevant work history. Proficiency in software development for embedded and Linux-based systems, particularly using C++ and C, is essential. The candidate should also have a solid understanding of real-time, multi-threaded, and multi-core environments. Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance is mandatory. Responsibilities Rapidly translate emerging concepts, customer needs, and experimental objectives into functional software prototypes and demonstration capabilities for advanced military communication systems. Design, develop, integrate, test, and debug software for embedded and Linux-based prototype systems, ensuring performance and reliability. Contribute to the design, implementation, integration, testing, and technical demonstrations of complex software and system-level capabilities within a rapid prototyping environment. Utilize emulators, debuggers, and related development tools to troubleshoot software behavior, identify root causes, and resolve integration issues across hardware and software interfaces. Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams—including hardware, RF, mechanical, and systems engineering—to evaluate interfaces, operational requirements, and technical constraints, maturing concepts into working capabilities. Communicate technical progress, issues, risks, and trade-offs clearly to team members, leadership, and end users, exercising sound engineering judgment in a dynamic environment. Benefits L3Harris offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support the well-being and professional growth of our employees. Benefits include health and disability insurance, a 401(k) matching program, flexible spending accounts, employee assistance programs, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays. The specific benefits available may vary based on hire date, employment schedule, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
