About The Role We are seeking experienced and senior Software Engineers to join our Phantom Works team in Berkeley, MO. This role focuses on developing Vehicle Management System (VMS) software that supports Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) programs. The VMS is critical for flight and subsystem control in advanced defense platforms, ensuring safety, reliability, and high performance. As a key contributor, you will be involved in designing, implementing, and verifying embedded software solutions that directly impact aircraft safety and mission success. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on sophisticated real-time systems, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and see your work deployed on flight hardware in a mission-driven environment. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background in engineering, computer science, or related fields, complemented by extensive experience in software development for embedded systems. A minimum of 5 years of experience with C/C++ programming and the software development lifecycle (SDLC) is required. Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in designing and developing safety-critical, real-time software, with familiarity in standards such as DO-178C, MIL-HDBK-516C, and MIL-STD-882E. An active U.S. Secret Clearance is mandatory, along with experience working in agile environments and with real-time operating systems like GreenHills Integrity. Additional preferred skills include proficiency in Python, C#, Assembly language, fault tolerance, signal processing, and control system design. Candidates should also demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, leadership qualities, and the ability to mentor junior engineers. Responsibilities As a Software Engineer in this role, your responsibilities will include developing, documenting, and maintaining architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for the Vehicle Management System. You will implement and integrate C/C++ software components for real-time embedded systems, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards. Creating comprehensive development and verification plans, executing test procedures, and documenting results to demonstrate requirements satisfaction will be key tasks. You will provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise in software domains, contribute to process improvements, and ensure project milestones are met. Mentoring and training other engineers will also be part of your role, fostering a collaborative team environment focused on delivering innovative solutions for complex defense systems.
