Software Engineer
Description
The Opportunity Our client is in the middle of a major transformation. Their team is taking a long-standing, mission-critical system built on IBM i / AS400 and re-architecting it for the modern era. They’re rebuilding the core business logic into a clean, scalable stack using Node.js, TypeScript, and SQL, with a modern Vue.js frontend. This is not a lift-and-shift rewrite. They are rethinking how the business operates end-to-end- simplifying workflows, improving usability, and shipping software that directly impacts how people do their jobs every day. We’re looking for an engineer who enjoys solving real business problems, working directly with end-users, and building high-impact software. Someone who is comfortable navigating both legacy systems and modern tools- and who’s excited to use AI to improve how they build, test, and optimize software. We care more about how you think and build than a specific number of years on your resume. Who You Are: A Logical Tinkerer
- You like to prototype, experiment, and get to an MVP quickly to validate ideas. User-Centric- You’re willing to step outside the IDE, sit with end-users, understand their workflows, and iterate based on real feedback. Self-Directed
- You can take a loosely defined problem and drive it to a solution without constant oversight. Fearless Problem Solver
- Whether it’s a 20-year-old database schema or a new AI workflow, you’re confident you can figure it out. Clear Communicator
- You can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a way that makes sense. Non-Negotiables: Node.js + TypeScript- Experience building backend services and business logic in a TypeScript environment (Express.js or similar frameworks preferred). SQL Proficiency- Strong ability to write queries and work directly with relational data. SQL is the backbone of our new system. Modern Frontend Framework Experience- We use Vue.js. Experience with React, Angular, or Svelte is acceptable if you’re willing to learn Vue. Nice to Haves: Cloud & Enterprise Tech
- Experience with .NET / C# and cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP also welcome). Legacy Systems Exposure
- Experience working with IBM i / AS400 environments or reading RPG/RPGLE code. AI & LLM Experience
- Hands-on experience integrating AI tools or LLMs. If you’ve built an AI agent, we want to hear about it. Database Architecture
- Experience modernizing schemas, designing tables, and refactoring legacy data models. Show more Show less
