Lead Node.js and API

Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Lead Node.js Architect to design, build, and deliver scalable, customer-facing digital platforms and APIs. This is a highly hands-on technical leadership role requiring approximately 70% coding and 30% team leadership , where you will architect and develop modern microservices while mentoring engineers and driving engineering excellence. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, API architecture, microservices, event-driven systems, cloud-native technologies, and Kubernetes , along with a proven track record of building enterprise-scale distributed systems from concept through production deployment. Key Responsibilities Architecture & Development Design and build domain-driven, event-driven microservices using Node.js and TypeScript. Architect greenfield platforms including service boundaries, API contracts, data models, messaging patterns, and deployment architectures. Develop clean, scalable, maintainable, and testable code while actively contributing as a hands-on engineer. Define and implement API standards including versioning, documentation, authentication, resiliency, and error handling. Technical Leadership Lead engineering teams through design reviews, code reviews, and architectural discussions. Mentor developers and promote engineering best practices across the organization. Collaborate with product, web, mobile, security, operations, and data teams to ensure successful solution delivery. Drive technical decision-making and provide guidance on scalability, reliability, and performance optimization. Cloud & Platform Engineering Design and deploy cloud-native solutions leveraging containerized architectures. Implement CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, observability, monitoring, and operational readiness. Ensure systems meet security, performance, availability, and scalability requirements. Production Support & Reliability Lead incident response, production troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. Define service-level objectives (SLOs), monitoring dashboards, alerting mechanisms, and operational runbooks. Ensure high availability and reliability of production services. Required Qualifications Technical Skills 9+ years of backend software engineering experience. 4+ years of technical leadership or architecture experience. Expert-level experience with: Node.js TypeScript Express.js, Fastify, or NestJS Strong expertise in: REST APIs OpenAPI / Swagger OAuth2, OIDC, JWT API Security and Authentication Deep understanding of: Domain-Driven Design (DDD) Event-Driven Architecture Microservices Design Patterns Saga, Outbox, and Circuit Breaker patterns Data & Messaging Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL. Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or DynamoDB. Strong understanding of Redis caching strategies. Hands-on experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging platforms. Cloud & DevOps Experience with at least one major cloud platform: AWS Microsoft Azure Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Strong experience with: Docker Kubernetes API Gateways Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation) Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins. Monitoring & Observability Experience with: OpenTelemetry ELK Stack Datadog New Relic Prometheus Dynatrace Strong understanding of logging, tracing, monitoring, and application performance management. Preferred Qualifications Experience in telecommunications, digital platforms, or large-scale consumer-facing applications. Experience with API gateways such as Apigee or Kong. Knowledge of rate limiting, quota management, and multi-tenant architectures. Experience with performance tuning, capacity planning, and cloud cost optimization.
