Criteria Applicants must meet the following requirements: Hold a PhD in the humanities or social sciences . Have up to six years of postdoctoral experience (PhD completed in 2021 or later). Career breaks (e.g., care responsibilities or scholar‑at‑risk status) may be explained in the cover letter and will be considered. Open to researchers worldwide. German nationals may apply only if employed at an international institution. Applications must be submitted individually (no group or team applications). Expectations of Fellows During the fellowship, participants are expected to: Dedicate their time to research aligned with KWI’s programmatic agenda. Be present at least three days per week at the institute. Participate in entry and exit interviews. Actively engage in academic events and contribute to the intellectual community. Mention KWI in publications resulting from the fellowship. Begin the fellowship on the announced start date (1 April 2027).
