As a Staff engineer you own technical problems end to end: from a crash signature or a new NIC on the bench, through root cause and design, to a change that is upstreamed and safely running on thousands of servers. The work spans networking, XDP and eBPF, memory, performance and hardware enablement. It also spans layers. Our kernel is the datapath of a distributed system whose control planes are constantly pushing new state to the fleet, so staying correct under change is part of the job. Formal CS education is not required; demonstrable experience is what matters. What You'll Do: Set technical direction for kernel projects, own them end to end from problem statement to fleet rollout, and mentor engineers on the team Take new servers, CPUs and NICs from first boot to full fleet: drivers, IRQ affinity, RSS and queue layout on high core count hosts Improve datapath and transport performance with XDP, eBPF and protocol work based on IETF specifications Debug problems that cross layers with application teams, such as MTU behavior, cgroup memory accounting and packet filtering Develop and maintain kernel changes and Fastly kernel modules on our long term kernel line, and reduce our private delta by upstreaming Make sure state pushed from control planes to eBPF and XDP programs is applied, verified and safe to roll back Own kernel health in production: triage crashes, WARNs and regressions across the fleet, find the root cause and ship the fix Own and improve the kernel release process and the signals behind it: CI, bake, canary, staged rollout and rollback across thousands of servers, plus crash metrics and drift detection that fire before customers notice Join the on-call rotation, lead the kernel side of incidents and drive follow-up actions to closure   What We're Looking For:  7+ years of related engineering experience, including substantial production C, with 3 of those years leading technical projects Production Linux kernel development, including debugging use-after-free, refcount and leak bugs with KASAN, kdump, ftrace, perf or bpftrace Working knowledge of the scheduler and memory management (EEVDF, memcg) Experience managing a kernel patch stack and working with upstream communities Solid understanding of the Linux network stack (TCP/IP, sk_buff lifecycle, qdiscs, NIC drivers) and XDP or eBPF, with deep expertise in at least one of these areas Operational discipline: staged rollouts, canaries, kill switches, observability, postmortems and closing action items Understanding of distributed systems: control plane and datapath consistency, partial failure and safe config rollout at fleet scale Ability to design broadly scoped work and drive it across teams   We'll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:  Upstream kernel contributions or subsystem maintainership Deep Knowledge of Transport protocols from IETF RFCs: QUIC, TCP, ECN and L4S, MASQUE Hardware enablement on AMD EPYC or Intel platforms, and NIC drivers such as mlx5, ice or i40e Load balancing or traffic steering systems CDN or large edge network environments Container networking: network namespaces, veth, cgroups, and eBPF-based CNI datapaths Work Hours: This position requires availability during core business hours and participation in an on-call rotation.   Work Location(s) & Travel Requirements: This position is open to remote and hybrid work locations in the United States. Posting Open Date: 10/06/2026 Anticipated Posting Close Date:  12/31/2026 Job posting may close early due to the volume of applicants. Customer Support Engineer (CSE) About the Customer Support Engineering Team The Fastly Edge Cloud Platform powers the best of the internet. Our Customer Support Engineering (CSE) team, a key function within our broader Customer Experience organization, helps customers succeed through clear, timely, and transparent technical support. This opening is for a Customer Support Engineer, Tier I, an entry-level position within our three-tiered team (Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III) that offers multiple opportunities for career development within Fastly. You will work closely with Tier II and III engineers, Engineering, and our customer-facing partner teams, and you will learn our issue management process end to end. We are seeking a technical problem solver for customers using our delivery and Compute platforms. The role requires a strong understanding of internet protocols and the ability to explain clearly how traffic behaves at the network edge. You will focus on delivery configuration (VCL), caching, HTTP behavior, and the Fastly Control Panel, with growing exposure to serverless Compute. Security product cases (such as WAF and DDoS) and general IT requests are handled by other teams. What You'll Do: Written-first customer support: Resolve technical inquiries primarily through email and ticket, and also through chat (Slack) and portal engagements. Join live triage sessions by video or phone when a situation calls for it. You will work to define first-response targets, so clear and accurate written communication is essential. Edge troubleshooting: Review customer configurations and debug VCL logic, cache behavior (TTLs, hit ratio), HTTP headers, TLS, and DNS. Over time, build skills troubleshooting Compute (Wasm) applications. Control Panel and account guidance: Guide customers through the Fastly Control Panel, API and CLI, role-based access controls (RBAC), users and permissions, domains, and observability dashboards. Issue management and triage: Assess impact and urgency on every case, work it through our Tier I, II, and III lifecycle, and escalate to Engineering during business hours with clear evidence: what you verified, what you tried, and what you still don't know. Urgent and widespread issues: Recognize when an issue is urgent (for example, customer traffic is down) or affects multiple customers, and engage our after-hours incident response process quickly. Partnering with account teams: Know when to bring in Customer Success Management or Advanced Professional Services, such as when a customer's sentiment is changing or a request calls for configuration review or solution design, and hand off with a clear summary. What is PerfectServe ? PerfectServe is a leading provider of clinical communication and physician scheduling solutions in the health IT space. The company was founded in 1997 and has grown steadily since then, with a notable jump after several major acquisitions were announced in 2019. PerfectServe now has 400+ employees, 30,000+ customers — spanning medical practices, hospitals, and health systems — and $100 million+ in annual revenue. PerfectServe's mission is to accelerate speed to care by optimizing provider schedules and routing communications — including messages, pages, calls, and alerts — to the right place at the right time in any care setting. By facilitating real-time information sharing, building better schedules, and automating important clinical workflows, we believe we can help our customers advance patient care and improve the well-being of their clinicians. Leading analyst firms like Gartner® and KLAS Research have consistently validated our approach: In 2026, PerfectServe was named highest in execution and furthest in vision in the Gartner Magic Quadrant™ for Clinical Communication and Collaboration — the clear segment leader. PerfectServe also received two Best in KLAS awards in 2026 — one for physician scheduling and another for ambulatory clinical communications. That makes for 11 Best in KLAS awards over the past 9 years. At PerfectServe, you'll have a unique opportunity to join a collaborative team with decades of experience that finds new ways to delight our customers every day. This involves consistent efforts to stay on the cutting edge of product development, which includes everything from implementing AI in new and existing solutions to brainstorming with customers about novel workflows. But you don't have to be in product to make in impact — everybody at PerfectServe contributes to important work that moves the business forward. If you're looking for a well-established, tech-forward company full of smart people doing meaningful work, you've found the right place! The Opportunity You own two things that are easy to under-invest in and expensive to ignore: the customers we already have, and the rooms where buyers gather. You run customer and expansion marketing in partnership with Customer Success, and you execute the field and event motion that the segment owners scope. You also own the proof. References, case studies, and advocates are how we win deals and how an acquirer values us. That program is yours to build. What You'll Own Sales enablement Build custom sales decks and assets for client engagements, with a focus on enterprise deals. Run broader enablement: operationalize the master pitch and battlecards PMM owns, onboard reps to the materials, and keep deal assets current. Be the bridge between marketing's narrative and what reps actually present in the room. Field and event execution Execute the events the segment owners scope and recommend: booth, on-site meetings, and follow-through. Own on-site ROI and the pre- and post-event motion with sales and CS.
