About Gusto At Gusto, we're on a mission to grow the small business economy. We handle the hard stuff — payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR — so owners can focus on their craft and their customers. With teams in Denver, San Francisco, and New York, we support more than 500,000 small businesses nationwide and are building a workplace that reflects the people we serve. All full-time employees receive competitive base pay, benefits, and equity (RSUs) — because everyone who helps build Gusto should share in its success. Offer amounts are determined by role, level, and location. Learn more about our Total Rewards philosophy . AI is a fundamental part of how work gets done at Gusto. We expect all team members to actively engage with AI tools relevant to their role and grow their fluency as the technology evolves. AI experience requirements vary by role and will be assessed during the interview process. About the Role: We're looking for a Head of Internal Controls to join Gusto's Finance, BizOps & Strategy team. This leader will partner with accounting and technical leaders to build and scale a forward-thinking internal controls environment that supports Gusto's growth and operational maturity. As the Head of Internal Controls, you will lead Gusto's controls program across business process controls and IT controls. The scope includes the proprietary and third-party systems supporting Gusto's payroll, health benefits, retirement, and other financial products. You will build the team, set the program's strategy, and embed practical controls into how Gusto's products, systems, and financial processes are designed and operated. You will also define what an AI-forward internal controls function can look like, both by applying AI to controls work and by establishing oversight of AI-enabled financial processes and software development. The ideal candidate is a hands-on controls leader who has built or scaled an ICFR program and led experienced teams. They can engage collaboratively with accounting and technical leaders, understand proprietary systems and complex data flows, and translate risk into controls that support the business without creating unnecessary operational burden. Here's what you'll do day-to-day: Build and lead Gusto's internal controls function, bringing business process controls and IT controls together under a single program and developing the team needed to support both areas. Own Gusto's risk-based ICFR framework across financial processes and the systems and data that support them, including scoping, control design, documentation, testing, issue evaluation, and remediation. Strengthen the control environment supporting Gusto's complex operations, proprietary systems, and evolving products. Partner early with Accounting, Finance, Product, Engineering, Data, Security, and Risk to build control and auditability into new products, systems, and processes without creating unnecessary manual work or disruption. Set the vision for an AI-forward internal controls function, using AI and automation to rethink how risk is identified, evidence is evaluated, and controls are tested and monitored. Establish practical oversight for risks introduced by AI-enabled financial processes and software development. Lead the relationship with external auditors, ensuring alignment on risk, scope, testing, evidence, and remediation. Establish clear governance and accountability for internal controls, including training across Gusto and reporting to senior management and the Audit Committee on the program's health and effectiveness. Here's what we're looking for: 12+ years of progressive experience in a Big 4 accounting firm, internal audit, or SOX compliance role program in a complex, scaling organization with professional certifications like CIA or CISA. 5+ years of people leadership experience, with a track record of hiring, coaching, and developing experienced controls professionals and distributing judgment and institutional knowledge across a team. Deep knowledge of US GAAP, the COSO framework, and the requirements supporting management's ICFR assessment and external auditor attestation. Breadth across business process controls and IT controls, with depth in at least 1 discipline and the judgment to lead experienced specialists across both. Experience in a technology-driven environment with proprietary applications, automated controls, complex data flows, high transaction volumes, and evolving products. Experience in fintech, payments, payroll, or financial services is preferred. A builder who can establish a long-term strategy and operating model while remaining close enough to the work to resolve ambiguous risks, challenge conclusions, and guide remediation. The ability to influence senior leaders, translate technical and financial risks into practical decisions, and work credibly with Product, Engineering, external auditors, and the Audit Committee. An AI-forward mindset. You are already experimenting with AI and automation to improve how internal controls work, from risk identification and evidence evaluation to testing and monitoring. A practical understanding of how AI changes the control environment, including the risks introduced by AI-generated code and AI-enabled financial processes, and the ability to partner with Engineering and business teams to establish practical oversight. CPA, CIA, CISA, or a comparable professional certification is preferred. Our cash compensation amount for this role is between $188,510 - $232,496/year in Denver and between $221,275 - $272,906/year for New York/San Francisco. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above. At Gusto, we don't use titles the traditional way, as a signal of rank or hierarchy. Instead, our titles describe two things at once — your craft (what you do, e.g. Engineering, Design) and your scope of ownership (what you're accountable for) — which is why you'll see something like "Head of X" instead of a rank word like "Director" that tells you neither. Because of this, the title on this posting may look different from what you'd expect based on the scope and seniority of the role, and from how similar roles are typically titled elsewhere. If you have questions about how this role compares to your current title or level, your recruiter can help translate. Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale. Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required. This includes non-office days for hybrid employees. Reliable, consistent presence: We expect regular and predictable attendance, whether you're working in-office, hybrid, or fully remote, so that you stay closely connected to your team, customers, and stakeholders in real time and ensure colleagues and customers receive the timely support and responsiveness they deserve. Our customers come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for small businesses, you will find a home at Gusto. Gusto is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate in hiring or any employment decision based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), marital status, ancestry, physical or mental disability, genetic information, veteran status, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or other applicable legally protected characteristic. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Technical Program Manager to join Datadog's Technical Solutions organization. This organization is made up of 1,200+ customer-facing technical experts around the world — including Sales Engineers, Technical Account Managers, Support Engineers, and Solution Architects — who work with prospects and customers throughout their journey with Datadog to deliver outstanding experiences and drive growth through product adoption. As a Technical Program Manager, you will lead and support a variety of technical programs that help these customer-facing teams work more effectively. Depending on the needs of the organization, this could include programs related to internal tooling, process improvement, knowledge and content systems, or other cross-functional initiatives. You'll partner closely with team leads, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to bring structure and clarity to moderately complex, cross-team programs, and you'll act as a multiplier for the teams you support by driving programs from planning through delivery. Candidates who have previously led projects for customer-facing technical teams are especially encouraged to apply. At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them. What You'll Do Drive delivery of cross-team programs that support one or more Technical Solutions teams — coordinating stakeholders, dependencies, and timelines to keep work on track from kickoff through delivery. Partner with team leads, subject matter experts, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate program goals into clear, actionable plans, and document scope, timeline, and quality expectations along the way. Establish and maintain program management fundamentals — project trackers, status updates, risk logs — so stakeholders always have visibility into progress and blockers. Identify unclear or incomplete requirements early and bring structure to ambiguous problems, escalating only when needed to keep execution on track. Use data to track progress against milestones, surface risks, and guide decisions; adjust plans as circumstances change. Apply AI tools to streamline your own program management workflows — synthesizing updates, surfacing patterns in program data, or accelerating documentation — and help identify where AI can improve processes for the teams you support. Communicate program status, risks, and impact clearly to stakeholders at different levels, adapting your message for technical and non-technical audiences. Look for opportunities to improve how programs and processes run, and contribute ideas that make execution more efficient over time. Who You Are Program Management Experience: 3-5 years of experience leading technical programs in a SaaS or technical environment, ideally including cross-team or cross-functional initiatives. Experience supporting customer-facing or technical support functions is a plus. Execution-Oriented: Comfortable driving moderately complex, cross-team initiatives independently, with the judgment to seek guidance on larger or more ambiguous efforts. Solid foundation in project scoping, timeline management, and risk management; PMP, Agile training, or equivalent certification preferred. Data-Informed: Tracks progress against established metrics and uses data to guide decisions, report status, and identify risks early. Clear Communicator: Able to convey project status and ideas concisely to a range of audiences, from peers to senior stakeholders, adapting the level of detail as needed. Collaborative: Builds trust through consistent delivery; works constructively across teams to resolve differing viewpoints and unblock progress. Comfortable with Ambiguity: Able to identify unclear requirements, ask the right questions, and bring structure to partially-defined problems. AI Fluency: Uses AI tools confidently in day-to-day program work and can evaluate where AI can be responsibly and effectively applied to improve program processes. Growth-Oriented: Developing skill in giving constructive, empathetic feedback; may support the onboarding or mentorship of newer team members. Technical Foundation: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience. Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you're passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply. Benefits and Growth Generous and competitive benefits package New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan Continuous career development and pathing opportunities Best in breed onboarding Friendly and inclusive workplace culture Benefits and Growth listed above may vary based on the country of your employment and the nature of your employment with Datadog. Datadog offers a competitive salary and equity package, and may include variable compensation. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.
