About MoonPay MoonPay is for builders with something to prove. This isn't a "work on cool crypto stuff" company. It's a high-standards, high-velocity, high-accountability company building the operating system for value movement. If the internet moves information, we move value: crypto, stablecoins, tokenized assets, and whatever comes next. Four offerings make that real: fund, tokenize, trade, and spend. 30M+ customers and 500+ ecosystem partners run on us. Licensed in the U.S. Regulated across the UK, EU, Canada, and Australia. AI is the default operating mode here. It's woven into every role, and we expect you to use it daily. It handles the manual work so you can deliver on what actually matters. You'll thrive here if outcomes excite you more than process, if impact motivates you more than titles, and if you want hard problems, real ownership, and teammates who love winning, building, and doing it together. The bar is high. The pace is real. We're building for what's next, for humans and agents. Recent recognition: Forbes' America's Best Startup Employers 2026 . 2nd in Crypto Services on Fortune's inaugural Crypto 100 The Sunday Times Best Places to Work two years running Research has shown that women are less likely than men to apply for this role if they do not have experience in 100% of these areas. Please know that this list is indicative, and that we would still love to hear from you even if you feel that you are only a 75% match. Skills can be learned, diversity cannot. 1. About the Opportunity ✍️ This is a hands-on technical leadership role with the opportunity to shape the long-term direction of our data platform. You will lead the design and evolution of the systems that power analytics, product insights, integrations, and machine learning across MoonPay. Working across teams, you'll solve complex challenges spanning architecture, reliability, scalability, governance, and cost efficiency within a regulated environment. We're looking for an engineer who can move confidently between setting technical direction and contributing directly to implementation. Your impact will come from evolving and adding new capabilities to our platform, establishing shared engineering patterns, and helping teams make pragmatic decisions that support both immediate delivery and long-term growth. 2. What you will do As a Staff Data Engineer on our Data Platform team, you'll provide technical leadership across the platform while remaining closely involved in design and delivery. Day-to-day, you will: Set and evolve the technical direction of our data platform across streaming, batch processing, warehousing, orchestration, governance, and machine learning enablement. Lead the design and delivery of complex, cross-team initiatives from early architectural decisions through to implementation Design and build core platform capabilities, from reliable real-time pipelines, shared tooling, reusable frameworks, and scalable data infrastructure for other teams Establish and champion golden paths that enable teams to build securely, consistently, and efficiently. Improve platform reliability, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency as data volumes and use cases grow. Partner with Security, Compliance, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure our systems meet operational and regulatory requirements. Identify systemic risks, reduce unnecessary complexity, and guide pragmatic, incremental improvements to the platform. Strengthen engineering standards across data modelling, pipeline design, observability, testing, deployment automation, and infrastructure as code. Influence technical priorities and planning by working closely with engineering managers, product managers, and senior technical leaders. Mentor senior engineers and raise technical capability through design reviews, code reviews, documentation, and hands-on collaboration. 💻 What you will be working with/on GCP Pub/Sub and Kafka Apache Beam Bigtable Redis Kubernetes Airflow BigQuery Terraform Python and SQL Real-time and batch processing Data governance, quality, and observability 3. About You You're a systems thinker who has helped design and scale data platforms used by multiple teams. You're comfortable operating across architecture, hands-on delivery, and organisation-wide technical influence. You value pragmatic solutions, strong engineering foundations, and quality outcomes over complexity for its own sake. We're looking for someone who brings: Significant experience designing and evolving large-scale data platforms, distributed and stream processing systems Deep knowledge of real-time and event-driven architectures using technologies such as Kafka or Pub/Sub. A track record of leading complex technical initiatives that span multiple teams or domains. Experience building platform capabilities, shared services, and engineering patterns that other teams can adopt Strong judgement across reliability, scalability, performance, governance, security, and cost management. The ability to move between high-level architectural decisions and hands-on implementation. Experience influencing engineers and stakeholders around shared technical standards and long-term priorities A team-first approach, with a passion for mentoring experienced engineers and raising the technical bar Strong communication skills and the ability to make complex technical decisions clear to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience working in a regulated environment, or designing systems with strong compliance and auditability requirements Experience with our specific technology stack is helpful, but architectural judgement, systems thinking, and technical leadership matter more than expertise in any one tool. About Lendable Lendable is on a mission to build the world's best technology to help people get credit and save money. We're building one of the world's leading fintech companies and are off to a strong start: One of the UK's most exciting unicorns with a team of over 800 people Among the fastest-growing tech companies in the UK Profitable since 2017 Backed by top investors including Balderton Capital and Goldman Sachs Loved by customers with the best reviews in the market (4.9 across 10,000s of reviews on Trustpilot ) So far, we've rebuilt the Big Three consumer finance products from scratch: loans, credit cards and car finance . We get money into our customers' hands in minutes instead of days. We're growing fast, and there's a lot more to do: we're going after the two biggest Western markets (UK and US) where trillions worth of financial products are held by big banks with dated systems and painful processes. Join us if you want to Take ownership: you are trusted to make decisions that drive a material impact on the direction and success of Lendable from day 1 Work in small teams of exceptional people: Lendies are relentlessly resourceful. We challenge the status quo to solve problems and find smarter solutions Build the best technology in-house : we use new data sources, machine learning and AI to make machines do the heavy lifting About the role Lendable's Payments team transacts money for our UK Loans, AutoLend (motor finance) and Zable (credit card) products: disbursing loans, collecting repayments, refunding customers and reconciling everything against our banking providers. We're bringing in a recent graduate on a 6-month contract to strengthen the controls around our daily loan funding and to add capacity across payments and partner indemnity recovery. A large part of our AutoLend lending is originated through third-party partners, and you'll own the daily process that verifies funds are flowing correctly through that chain before we release the next day's payments. You'll run that control every day, then use the remaining time to help us make it faster, better evidenced and, where possible, automated. This is a hands-on operational role and a strong first job in fintech. You don't need finance experience; we'll teach you the payments side. You do need to be numerate, methodical, quick to learn and comfortable being the last line of defence before money leaves the building. What you'll do Daily funding controls (core responsibility) Run the daily pre-release checks on partner funding: gather payment evidence from our third-party partners, reconcile it to our disbursal records, and confirm that yesterday's funds reached the intended recipients before today's payments are approved. Hold, query or escalate anything that is missing, late or doesn't reconcile, and document the reason clearly so commercial, operations and risk colleagues can act on it. Keep a full audit trail of every check, exception and release decision so the control is evidenced for internal review and audit. Spot the trends in partner behaviour and payment timing that warrant a closer look, and raise them early. Run periodic verification of partner and payee bank details, and re-verify whenever a partner asks us to change where we pay them. Work with the Payments Manager to onboard more partners onto the control, and to turn the manual check into matching rules, scripts and monitoring that surface only the exceptions. Payments and finance operations Support day-to-day payment operations: cash allocation of incoming repayments, refunds and returned payments, and reconciliation against our bank and payment providers. Prepare and check payment files for approval, for example, bulk payment files for customer refunds and complaint redress. Pick up Finance Help Desk tickets from other teams: payment traces, refund and redress requests, "has this payment arrived" queries. Partner indemnity recovery Support the colleague who leads our partner indemnity recovery process. Where an agreement is cancelled, unwound or found to have been mis-sold, our partner agreements entitle us to recover amounts from the partner. You'll help validate each case against our records: confirming the agreement status, the amounts paid out and received, and what is contractually recoverable. Prepare and reconcile the recovery figures that go to partners, track invoices raised against amounts received, and chase and resolve queries and shortfalls. Support the unwind process on cancelled agreements: making sure customer refunds, partner recoveries and internal ledger entries all tie back to the same numbers. Help bring the recovery backlog under control and keep an accurate, up-to-date view of what is outstanding by partner. What we're looking for Must have A degree (2:1 or above, or equivalent) in a STEM, finance, accounting, economics or other quantitative subject, completed within the last two years. Strong numeracy and comfort working with large volumes of transactional data. Strong attention to detail and healthy scepticism. You can quickly identify when supporting documentation, such as a bank statement, does not fully evidence what it is intended to. Confident with Google Sheets or Excel, including lookups, filters and tidy, checkable working. Clear written communication. You can explain to a non-finance colleague why a payment has been held. Confident dealing with external partners: obtaining documentation promptly and professionally, and politely pushing back where it is incomplete. Comfortable handling sensitive customer, partner and payment data responsibly. Nice to have Some exposure to Python, SQL or a similar language from your degree, a project or self-study, and an appetite to use it to automate repetitive work. We use Snowflake. An internship, placement or project involving finance, operations or messy real-world data. An interest in payments, lending or how money moves between businesses. What success looks like at 6 months The daily funding control runs reliably across the agreed partner population with a full evidence trail, and no payment is released without the previous day's funds being evidenced. Exceptions and emerging trends are flagged early, documented and resolved with the right teams. Partner and payee bank details have been verified on the agreed cycle. The partner indemnity recovery backlog has been validated, invoiced where due and is tracked in one accurate, up-to-date view. The funding control is documented end-to-end and materially more automated than when you started. Life at Lendable Winning team: the opportunity to scale up one of the world's most successful fintech companies Flexible working: flexible approach tailored to each role. Hybrid roles require three days in-office weekly; fully remote roles include regular opportunities for in-person connection through socials and off-sites Socials & connection: opportunities and events to come together, socialise, and get to know each other beyond the office walls Health coverage: support for your physical and mental wellbeing, including private health cover Retirement & savings: long-term financial wellbeing through retirement savings plans Employee referral programme: earn a competitive bonus when you refer successful new team members Office meals & snacks: enjoy a fully stocked kitchen, plus complimentary lunches prepared by in-house chefs on in-office days at select locations Sustainable commuting: cycle-to-work and electric vehicle salary sacrifice schemes available in select locations Please note: The availability and details of specific benefits vary by location and role.
