Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineer (Early Career), Hardware
Full TimeOn-siteMid
pythonlaboratorycadmechanical engineeringsolidworkscnc+4

Adaptyv is building an automated lab that lets AI agents run biology experiments. We're entering the era of agentic science where AI models can now design novel proteins, propose hypotheses, and iterate on experimental results. But they can't run the experiments themselves - that's still a manual, months-long process. We're building the infrastructure that gives AI agents access to the physical world. We are one of the fastest growing biotech companies, trusted by leading biopharmas, frontier AI labs, and the techbio companies pushing the field forward. This is a rare chance to help advance some of the most important work happening in biotech today. Our automated lab is powered by a deep software + hardware stack: lab instruments worth millions of USD reverse-engineered into API-controllable hardware, dozens of devices orchestrated through complex workflows, full observability on everything that happens in the lab, processing pipelines for messy physical-world data, and AI systems that troubleshoot production results and accelerate assay development. We're growing rapidly and are hiring for talented people to scale and support the massive demand for AI-driven wet lab experimentation. About the Role We're building highly automated laboratory systems that combine robotics, scientific instruments, custom hardware, and software to run biological experiments at scale. You'll help design, prototype, and build the mechanical and mechatronic systems that connect and support our laboratory automation infrastructure. This includes developing custom components, integrating sensors and actuators, improving existing systems, and solving practical engineering challenges that arise as we scale. This is a highly hands-on role. You'll work alongside our automation engineers on projects from initial concept and CAD through prototyping, testing and deployment in the lab, and take on more ownership as you grow. You'll work closely with our automation, software, and biology teams to develop reliable hardware that can operate continuously with minimal human intervention. We're looking for someone who enjoys building things, learning quickly and solving practical technical problems, and turning ideas into working systems. If you've spent your studies building robots, rockets, race cars or 3D-printed contraptions and want to do that full-time on real problems, we'd love to hear from you. Location: Lausanne, Switzerland (on-site) · Type: Full-time · Experience: 0–3 years (recent graduates welcome) What You'll Do Design, prototype, and build custom mechanical and mechatronic components for laboratory automation. Develop fixtures, mounts, enclosures, robotic interfaces, and other custom hardware. Integrate sensors, actuators, motors, and control electronics with guidance from senior engineers, improving automation capabilities and system monitoring. Take designs from CAD through fabrication, assembly, testing and deployment. Help integrate new hardware and scientific instruments into automated workflows. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and integration issues, learning to find root causes and build robust fixes. Contribute to improving existing hardware for reliability and maintainability. Help source components and work with suppliers on custom parts. What We're Looking For A degree (BSc or MSc) in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics or a related field. Hands-on experience designing and building physical things, whether from internships, a thesis, student teams (e.g. Formula Student, EPFL Xplore/Rocket Team, robotics competitions) or personal projects. Comfortable with CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape or similar). Experience with 3D printing, basic machining or mechanical assembly. Comfortable working safely in a workshop with hand and power tools (e.g. drills, saws, grinders). Some exposure to sensors, motors or basic electronics (Arduino-level is great). Curious, eager to learn, and happy to get your hands dirty. You ask good questions and take initiative. Nice to Have None of these are required. They're things you'll pick up here. Exposure to laboratory automation, scientific instrumentation, or robotic systems. Experience with data acquisition or sensor integration. Familiarity with PCB design, embedded electronics, microcontrollers, or control systems. Experience with fluidics, pneumatics, or vacuum systems. Experience operating workshop machinery such as a lathe, milling machine, CNC or laser cutter. Programming experience in Python, C/C++, or similar languages. A solid grounding in mechanical design principles, materials and tolerances. Membership of a student competition team, or open-source hardware or maker projects. We're growing rapidly and are hiring for talented people to scale and support the massive demand for AI-driven wet lab experimentation. About the Role Adaptyv is growing fast. We are significantly expanding our lab this year, onboarding more and more customers every week, and building the systems needed to keep the company running smoothly as we scale. We are looking for a Founders Associate to own and build the operational backbone of the company as we scale. This is a high-ownership generalist role: you'll take entire problems and run them end-to-end, from messy first draft to a process that runs cleanly without you. You'll move between finance, customer operations, hiring, supplier relationships, and lab logistics — owning whatever is most important that week, not just supporting it. Most of what you'll work on is still manual, ad hoc, or held together by hand; your job is to turn it into systems and automations that scale, then move on to the next hardest thing. This role requires exceptional agency and an entrepreneurial mindset. You should be comfortable being handed an ambiguous goal with no playbook and coming back with it solved. What You'll Do Own complete operational workstreams end-to-end — you're accountable for outcomes, not tasks Use AI tools to rebuild workflows that are still too manual, messy, or slow, and turn them into systems that run without you Own customer onboarding and help keep our growing customer base happy as we scale Run finance and administrative operations, working closely with our accountants and service providers Manage supplier and service-provider relationships, including negotiation and follow-through Drive lab expansion logistics for our new lab in Lausanne Own internal company coordination: events, customer visits, team operations, and the day-to-day rhythm of the company Build lightweight tools and automations using Claude Code, Python, Notion, no-code tools, or whatever gets the job done Design the processes and systems the company doesn't have yet — and make them happen What We're Looking For A track record of getting things done: you've started something, run something, or owned something meaningful, whether at a startup, a side project, a club, or your studies. A background in biology is not a hard requirement. If you're coming from a different field, a genuine interest in the life sciences is important to us. Exceptional agency and ownership. You spot problems before anyone asks, take action, and don't stop until they're solved Entrepreneurial and self-directed — you're comfortable with ambiguity and no playbook, and you'd rather build the system than just run the task Strong with AI tools, especially Claude Code or Codex. You use them to build real workflows and tools, not just draft emails Hands-on, organized, and reliable. You follow through, keep things tidy, and don't let things fall through the cracks You thrive in a dynamic role where priorities change quickly, and you're comfortable jumping between projects, responsibilities, and urgent operational needs Details Location: Lausanne, Switzerland (on-site) Type: Full time Start Date: ASAP Application deadline We are reviewing applicants on a rolling basis. About the Role We are building the most automated lab in the world, and that does not stop at the bench. A company that AI agents can run experiments in has to automate everything around the experiment too — procurement, hiring, admin, and finance. Finance is one of the most automatable functions in any company and almost nobody has actually done it. We intend to. That is the job: build an AI-powered finance stack. Our ledger, billing, cards and payroll all expose APIs, and we already close the books against them programmatically rather than by hand. You would take that much further, to where the model, the close, the cash view and the margin analysis largely run themselves, and your week goes on the decisions instead of the reconciliation. You would be our first finance hire, and it is hands-on. You will build the forecast, run the close across two entities, own cash, and be the person who can say what a protein actually costs us to make. What You'll Do Own the forecast. Both directions: bottom-up from lab capacity, throughput and price per protein, and top-down P&L, burn and runway. Own gross margin. What does an experiment actually cost us — DNA, reagents, consumables, instrument time, labour? Which products and which customers lose us money? Own pricing, with commercial. What we charge, why, and where the floor is. Pricing at a lab company is a finance question wearing a sales hat. Own the close. Group consolidation and intercompany management. Make it fast, make it correct, make it boring. Own cash. Bank and card accounts across Switzerland and the US, AP runs, AR collection, payment timing. Know where the money is and where it is going before anyone asks. Keep us compliant. Tax, VAT, audit, payroll, and the external firms we work with. You are not a lawyer or an accountant, but you know when to call one. Investor reporting, fundraising support, and treasury management. Equipment leasing and asset management. The lab runs on millions of francs of instruments. Lease or buy, how we finance it, what it does to the balance sheet, and keeping the asset register honest as we expand. Automate all of the above. What We're Looking For You have built a finance function, not just worked in one. Several years in finance at a startup that actually scaled, and ideally you were early enough to have set things up rather than inherited them. You can build a real model. Not a template. A model that ties operational reality — throughput, yield, capacity, headcount — to cash, and that survives someone pulling on it. You write code, or you are visibly about to. SQL at minimum, Python ideally. This is the hard requirement most finance candidates will fail, and we mean it. We run on Claude Code across the company, and every system finance touches has an API behind it. The best version of this person automates their own function, writes their own tooling, and finds leverage the rest of us have not thought of. If your instinct is that finance is a spreadsheet-and-portal job, we will frustrate each other. You understand the cost structure of a physical business. Reagents, instruments, consumables, capex versus COGS, yield loss. Lab, hardware, or manufacturing backgrounds all translate. Pure SaaS finance does not, on its own. Swiss and European finance experience. VAT, social charges, employment law. A US entity alongside a Swiss one is a plus. Ambitious, and in it for the company. We want someone who intends to be running finance at a much larger Adaptyv in three years, and who cares about what we are building rather than the title on the door. Trustworthy with everything. Salaries, revenue, investor communications, board material. All of it crosses your desk. Scope We are a small company and nobody here has clean edges around their job. You will end up in the lab, in a room with a customer, and every so often doing something that is nobody's job simply because it needs doing. The centre of gravity is the numbers: the model, the close, cash, margin, pricing, and the board pack. That is the part that is yours and the part we will judge the role on. Procurement is a separate hire and the two of you will be joined at the hip on cost, but the sourcing and the vendor relationships are not yours to run. One thing it is not: a bookkeeping seat. The mechanical layer is handled, and if that is the job you want, this one will bore you. Why This Role Is Interesting Most first-finance-hires at a startup spend three years cleaning up a SaaS P&L. Here, the finance question and the product question are the same question: an automated lab is a machine for converting money into experimental data, and how efficiently it does that is literally the business. You will be building the model of that machine, at a company that is about to expand it several-fold, while it is being used by the best pharma companies and the best AI labs in the world. And you will do it with a founding team that will hand you the API keys and get out of your way. Application deadline We are reviewing applicants on a rolling basis. A newly created role to help Databricks create new product categories. As Databricks accelerates its most strategic products, we are investing ahead of the curve in the partner ecosystem that helps our customers adopt them, and we are building a new specialisation function to lead that effort. You will pioneer it across EMEA. Reporting to: Director, Partner Field Engineering (EMEA). As the Senior Product Specialist Partner Solutions Architect, you own how our leading System Integrator partners develop deep, market-leading expertise in Databricks' priority products: OLTP/Postgres (Lakebase): Databricks' fully managed, Postgres-compatible operational (OLTP) database for intelligent applications Product AI (Genie): Databricks' natural-language analytics experience, letting anyone ask questions of governed data conversationally AI Router & Governance (Unity Gateway): Databricks' governed gateway for securely managing, monitoring and routing access to AI and large language model endpoints Migrations & Modernisation: moving legacy data warehouses and platforms onto the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform Turn-key Solutions: Cybersecurity (Lakewatch) and CDP (CustomerLake) with more to come Your mandate is to take our leading partners to the highest tier of Centre-of-Excellence product specialisation on these products, and to turn them into independent, market-leading extensions of the Databricks field. Working hand in hand with our EMEA Product Specialist team, you will carry both the deep technical narrative and the business-value and go-to-market narrative that get these products positioned, adopted and scaled through the partner channel. This is a builder's role: you will design the blueprint for a partner product-specialist function that Databricks scales globally, starting in EMEA. What we are trying to achieve Databricks' priority products are seeing strong momentum across EMEA. Lakebase is one of the fastest-growing additions to our platform, Unity Gateway is newly generally available, and AI/BI + Genie are changing how customers work with their data. As adoption accelerates, our partners are central to helping customers realise value quickly and at scale. Deepening partner expertise in these products is one of the most powerful levers we have to accelerate customer time-to-value, and this role exists to build that capability deliberately and ahead of demand, so our partners lead the market. What the role owns Building the partner specialist community (the day-to-day). Select, enable and certify leading EMEA partners to the highest tier of product specialisation, running the enablement engine end to end: partner selection, technical upskilling to expert depth, certification and first joint customer wins. Partnering with our Product Specialist team. Act as the partner-side counterpart to Databricks' EMEA Product Specialists, bringing the latest product expertise to partners, connecting partner enablement to live customer opportunities, and channelling partner and customer adoption insight back to our product organisation. Scaling specialist capacity through partners. Grow models where specialised partners bring product-specialist capacity to joint customers, so expertise scales across the ecosystem. Launch-partner motions. Position specialised partners as launch partners for major product releases, signalling ecosystem trust and accelerating go-to-market at each milestone. Thought leadership and the business-value narrative. Author the "better-together" technical and commercial story for these products in the partner channel: reference architectures, positioning, partner offers and value framing that let partners sell and deliver independently. Be a visible voice for partner product specialisation, internally and externally. Building the function. Define the operating model, the specialisation and certification criteria, the partner selection bar and the cadence, and create the template Databricks adopts to scale this function worldwide. The impact you will have Accelerate customer adoption and time-to-value on Databricks' priority products by putting genuine product depth into the partner channel. Grow partner-led momentum behind our fastest-growing products, building partner capability ahead of the demand curve. Elevate leading EMEA System Integrators to full independence on the priority products, so they operate as market leaders and true extensions of the Databricks field. Establish a repeatable, globally scalable partner product-specialist function, proven in EMEA and exported across Databricks. What we look for Extensive hands-on experience with the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, with genuine depth in at least two of the priority products above and the ability to get to depth quickly on the rest. This is a senior role for an established Databricks expert. Proven ability to build partner or field capability at scale: enablement, certification and community-building that turns others into independent experts. Strong business-value and go-to-market instinct: able to translate technical depth into commercial positioning and partner-led market impact, and to engage partner and customer organisations at senior-executive level. Demonstrated thought leadership: authoring technical and business content (reference architectures, solution guides, positioning, playbooks) and presenting complex products credibly to technical and executive audiences. At least 5 years of technical pre-sales or sales-methodology experience in a consumption business model, and experience designing and delivering end-to-end data, warehousing and AI architectures. Coding experience in a core language (Python, SQL, Java or Scala) and hands-on experience building data applications or AI agents. The maturity to build a new function from the ground up: defining the operating model, standards and cadence, and managing multiple changing priorities across a partner ecosystem and internal teams. Nice to have: System Integrator or consulting background; experience with transactional databases (e.g. PostgreSQL) and application development; experience with LLM gateways, AI governance or AI security; experience running partner specialisation, certification or champion programmes; additional European languages. The role requires up to 40% travel across EMEA, to partner sites, Databricks offices and key industry events. About Databricks Databricks is the Data and AI company. About us Sierra is the leading platform for customer-facing AI agents, working with many of the world's biggest brands — including The GAP, Rocket Mortgage, SoFi, Sutter Health, and SoftBank — to transform how they serve customers and grow their businesses. We are primarily an in-person company based in San Francisco, with growing offices across North America, Europe, and Asia. We are guided by a set of values that are at the core of our actions and define our culture: Trust, Customer Obsession, Craftsmanship, Intensity, and a commitment to balancing Family along the way. These values are the foundation of our work, and we are committed to upholding them in everything we do. Our co-founders are Bret Taylor and Clay Bavor . Bret currently serves as Board Chair of OpenAI. Previously, he was co-CEO of Salesforce (which had acquired the company he founded, Quip) and CTO of Facebook. Bret was also one of Google's earliest product managers and co-creator of Google Maps. Before founding Sierra, Clay spent 18 years at Google, where he most recently led Google Labs. Earlier, he started and led Google's AR/VR effort, Project Starline, and Google Lens. Before that, Clay led the product and design teams for Google Workspace. What you'll do We're hiring a Commercial Counsel to be a core member of Sierra's legal team. We are looking for someone who has deep expertise in commercial contracts, but also someone who is eager to broaden their scope across IP, regulatory, and product. You will thrive in dynamic environments, enjoy tackling challenges beyond your comfort zone, and be excited to contribute across the business. In return, we'll provide the support and opportunities you need to grow and excel as a lawyer. You'll be part of a legal team that is highly respected within both the company and the broader legal industry—committed to excellence, collaboration, and making a meaningful impact. Commercial Contracting : Structure, negotiate, and advise on all commercial contracts, including SaaS subscription agreements, technology licenses, professional services agreements, channel partner agreements, vendor agreements, and NDAs. Commercial privacy and security contracting experience (e.g., DPAs, BAAs, security agreements) is a plus. Operational Excellence : Help build out our commercial function to be best-in-class. We aim to be the fastest and strongest, where the legal team is the differentiator in the contract lifecycle. You will be developing templates, playbooks, and workflows to drive efficiency and scalability. Expertise : Deep knowledge of practice areas that underpin the commercial practice, including contract law, IP and privacy. You will also want to work in AI and understand the nuances of law as it relates to AI, including the evolving regulatory frameworks. You will be expected to advise broadly on all contractual issues and be comfortable doing so. Teamwork : A team player first and foremost. Sierra is a unique place to work, with a strong sense of togetherness, and the legal team is no exception. You will look out for your colleagues and be accustomed to sharing and helping the team succeed. Judgment : Understand risk in the context of a hyperscaling business, have sound judgment, and be strategic in your decision-making. You will not be afraid to make judgment calls, and you will be empowered to do so. Approach : A strong work ethic with an eye for detail. You will strive for perfection and expect that of others. Collaborate : Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, and Agent Development teams to support revenue growth and strategic business initiatives. What you'll bring 2-6 years of legal experience, with a combination of both large law firm and in-house experience at a tech company. A strong background in negotiating and managing complex commercial contracts, preferably in SaaS, AI, or enterprise software. Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to partner with both legal and non-legal stakeholders. A proactive mindset and the ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment. Even better… Experience of privacy/regulatory frameworks and can advise on data processing agreements and security-related contract provisions. Non-English languages, especially Spanish, German and French. A passion for AI, with a deep understanding of AI products, LLMs and the related legal issues. Law firm experience at a top-tier, internationally recognized law firm. Experience working at a high-growth startup and operating with a sense of ownership. Industry specific knowledge in any of the following: Financial Services, Healthcare, Telecoms, Insurance and/or Consumer. Our values Trust: We build trust with our customers with our accountability, empathy, quality, and responsiveness. We build trust in AI by making it more accessible, safe, and useful. We build trust with each other by showing up for each other professionally and personally, creating an environment that enables all of us to do our best work. Customer Obsession: We deeply understand our customers' business goals and relentlessly focus on driving outcomes, not just technical milestones. Everyone at the company knows and spends time with our customers. When our customer is having an issue, we drop everything and fix it. Craftsmanship: We get the details right, from the words on the page to the system architecture. We have good taste. When we notice something isn't right, we take the time to fix it. We are proud of the products we produce. We continuously self-reflect to continuously self-improve. Intensity: We know we don't have the luxury of patience. We play to win. We care about our product being the best, and when it isn't, we fix it. When we fail, we talk about it openly and without blame so we succeed the next time. Staff Engineer
AndercoreBerlin, Germany5 days ago
Full TimeOn-sitePrincipal
pythontypescriptjavagokotlinreact+18

About Andercore Andercore is the AI-native supplier of industrial materials and goods for energy and infrastructure. We execute trade and distribution end-to-end, on our own account, at the speed of compute - and we are becoming the supplier of record for the entire industry. Industrial procurement is a €900B market in Europe alone and the largest manual market on earth. 95% of customers have no direct access to global supply chains. Materials pass through four or five intermediaries before they reach a site, and 40% of the margin evaporates on the way. For decades, the operating system of this industry was people: people to source, negotiate, finance, ship, and sell. We built the alternative from scratch. We are the supplier. We buy from global sources and sell to European customers on our own account. Our AI runs the full trade: sourcing, quality, pricing, sales, logistics, credit, and financing. One request. A firm quote in minutes. Delivered on time. For the customer, it feels like buying from their preferred local supplier. No warehouses. No fleet. No inventory risk. Every trade is pre-sold before it is bought. We are also the credit counterparty. Customers are scored and insured in minutes and get up to 60 days of payment terms priced into the quote itself. The working capital behind every trade is bank-funded, not equity-funded. Where we are today: Strong triple-digit-million euro turnover run rate, the majority of it from repeat customers Seven European markets live, sourced from suppliers across Asia and beyond 80+ people across Berlin (HQ), London, and Shanghai $90M raised in equity and debt, including our $40M Series B, from Atomico, Project A, Target Global, and Inven Capital - with working capital facilities from UniCredit and KfW The margin is in the bits. The moat is in the atoms. We are building the supplier of record for industrial materials - and redefining how global trade works in one of the largest and most essential industries on earth. About the role Andercore runs global trade end to end, from sourcing and pricing to sales, logistics and financing, and AI agents do a growing share of that work. Order values are high and prices and stock change daily, so the systems underneath have to be fast, correct and reliable at all times. As a Staff Engineer, you own our hardest technical problems and set the architecture across teams. You focus on what a fast-growing trading business cannot afford to get wrong: speed, reliability, security and observability. You report to our VP Engineering and work closely with our Senior Product Engineers, QA and product managers. You stay hands-on: you write code, review designs and raise the bar for everyone around you Tech stack Java 21 and Spring Boot 3, Python, LangGraph and LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini), PostgreSQL, Kinesis, AWS with Terraform, GitHub Actions, and TypeScript with Node.js, Next.js and React. Including Salesforce, which we are moving our transaction core out of. What you will do Set the technical direction across teams: define the target architecture, write the RFCs behind big decisions, and make sure teams build towards the same picture. Lead the hardest technical work yourself, from design to production, instead of only advising on it. Shape the carve-out of our transaction core from Salesforce into a modern, modular core system, with a migration path that never disrupts daily trading. Make reliability, security and observability part of how we build: monitoring, alerting, incident response and postmortems that lead to real changes. Design how our AI agents act safely on money-touching paths, with evaluations, guardrails, audit trails and human review where it matters. Set standards for correctness and data integrity, including idempotency, validation and testing, together with QA. Mentor engineers through design reviews, pairing and direct feedback, and help us hire by defining what great engineering looks like at Andercore. In your first six months, you might Design the architecture of our pricing engine so it scales with a growing assortment and more markets, and serves correct prices to sales, and later directly to customers, in milliseconds. Lay out the target architecture and first steps for moving our transaction core off Salesforce. Build the observability and incident setup that lets us catch problems before customers or colleagues notice them What you bring At least 8 years of experience building and running software in production, including systems where errors cost real money. Deep backend expertise at production scale in Java or a comparable language such as Kotlin, C# or Go, and willingness to work in Java and Spring Boot. A track record of setting architecture across several teams, through influence rather than a management title. Experience designing transactional, distributed and event-driven systems, with a strong focus on correctness, failure modes and performance. Hands-on depth in reliability, security and observability, and experience leading incidents and postmortems. Experience in a fast-growing company, and a track record of solving business problems, not only technical ones. AI is part of your daily work. Experience building or evaluating AI agents in production is a strong plus. Experience with re-platforming or carving out systems from a platform like Salesforce or an ERP is a plus Practical details Location: Berlin, hybrid Working language: English A learning budget for your development Start date: As soon as possible We are an equal-opportunity employer and welcome applicants from all backgrounds, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or any other characteristic. We believe that diversity drives innovation, creativity, and collective strength. Find more English Speaking Jobs in Germany on Arbeitnow
