About Ramp Ramp is building the smart infrastructure for finance teams, embedded in the transaction flow of every dollar a business spends. We automate how over $200B in annualized spend flows in and out of 70,000+ companies: authorizing payments, flagging risk, categorizing spend, and closing books. The problems are high-stakes, data-dense, and unforgiving. We hire people with high agency and high urgency. We look for slope over intercept. We care less about where you trained and more about what you've built. At Ramp, everyone is a builder who owns problems end to end and makes consequential decisions that shape the outcome. The median Ramp customer saves 5% and grows revenue 16% in their first year – far in excess of businesses operating without Ramp. We believe every ambitious company deserves the same. If you want to build systems that directly shape how companies move and manage billions, Ramp is the place to do it. About Ramp Ramp is building the smart infrastructure for finance teams, embedded in the transaction flow of every dollar a business spends. The problems are high-stakes, data-dense, and unforgiving. We hire people with high agency and high urgency. We look for slope over intercept. If you want to build systems that directly shape how companies move and manage billions, Ramp is the place to do it. About the Role Ramp builds software that moves real money, from bill payments and corporate cards to reimbursements, accounting integrations, and travel. Our customers rely on us to keep their operations running: invoices get paid, books get closed, and finance leaders can trust the data behind every decision. In this role, you will be the person who spots where customers are getting stuck and drives issues to a clear resolution. You will learn a complex product deeply enough to troubleshoot across payments, bank linking, accounting syncs, and card programs, then partner with teams across Engineering, Risk, Product, and Partnerships to get problems solved. This is not script-based support. You will triage, investigate, and make high-signal judgment calls throughout the day. You will thrive in this role if you are a systems thinker and deeply customer obsessed. Support is the baseline. How you think about improving processes, tools, and outcomes is what sets you apart. What You'll Do Be the voice of Ramp's Customer Support. You'll spend your day engaging with customers, primarily via live calls, email, and chat. Diagnose across a broad product surface. Ramp isn't one product — it's payments, cards, travel, accounting integrations, and more. You'll need to understand how they connect and where they break. Operate with an ownership mindset, managing escalations end-to-end. You take full accountability for every ticket you handle. When an issue crosses team boundaries — risk, engineering, product, partnerships — you route it correctly, follow up, and make sure the customer isn't left waiting. You'll work across Zendesk, internal tooling, and Slack-based escalation workflows. Build and shape AI tools, not just use them. Ramp is building AI into CX operations. You'll use AI-powered research tools and proprietary tools like Glass daily, provide direct feedback on what's working, and play an active role in how these tools evolve. You're not just a user — you're a builder. We are all builders at Ramp. Ship improvements, not just flag them. When you notice a process gap, a missing SOP, or a knowledge base article that's sending associates down the wrong path, you don't just raise it — you have the autonomy to roll up your sleeves and fix it. Leverage AI to solve problems, build automations, and improve the systems around you. The best people in this role make the whole team better. Communicate with precision and empathy. Our customers are financially sophisticated. You need to explain what's happening, what you're doing about it, and what they should expect — clearly and without filler. What You Need You're a systems thinker: you don't just solve the ticket in front of you, you ask why the problem exists and how to prevent it from happening again. You actively use AI tools — Claude, Notion AI, research and workflow tools — and can demonstrate how you've applied them to get real work done. This is a hard requirement. You're fast-moving while holding yourself to a high bar for execution: you balance speed, accuracy, and thoroughness in every interaction. You can hold a technical conversation about how systems connect (APIs, bank integrations, accounting software) even if you're not writing code. You manage competing priorities without dropping things. When you have 15 open issues across 4 internal teams, nothing falls through. You write clearly and concisely. You can explain a payment reconciliation issue to a CFO without jargon. You're comfortable on the phone. Many interactions start there. You have a demonstrated track record of exceeding key performance standards, including CSAT, QA, and speed-of-service metrics. Nice to Haves Experience building workflows or automations using AI tools, not just prompting Familiarity with accounting workflows (AP/AR, GL, reconciliation) or ERP integrations (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage) Background in payments infrastructure (ACH, wire transfers, card networks) Track record of working somewhere that shipped product fast and expected CX to keep up Why be a CX Associates at Ramp Cross-functional exposure from day one. You work directly with Product, Engineering, and GTM teams — not siloed into a support queue. AI tools and unlimited access. Unlimited tokens, proprietary AI tools like Glass, and a culture that expects you to use them to move faster and build smarter. Career growth that you own. Grow within CX, explore other functions internally, or carve out a path that doesn't exist yet. If you're invested, we're invested. Culture that's different from a call center. Team events, in-person offsites, and a genuine commitment to building a team people want to be part of. About Toptal Toptal is a global network of top talent in business, design, and technology that enables companies to scale their teams, on-demand. With $200+ million in annual revenue and team members based around the globe , Toptal is the world's largest fully remote workforce . We take the best elements of virtual teams and combine them with a support structure that encourages innovation, social interaction, and fun. We see no borders, move at a fast pace, and are never afraid to break the mold. Job Summary Our Client Advisors turn inbound interest from small- and medium-sized businesses into Toptal clients. You will be the first conversation a prospective client has with Toptal. You will respond to immediate-assistance requests within five minutes, quickly understand the business problem behind the request, connect necessary Toptal specialists, and help guide the client forward through the sales process. You will need to do a great deal in a short conversation: establish trust, diagnose the need, recognize relevant opportunities, explain Toptal's value proposition, address concerns, and convert the business to sale. This is a high energy, consultative sales role at inbound velocity where excellence will mean running a high volume of first conversations, asking better questions than the client expected, and constantly building momentum along the right Toptal offering path. You will need to bring clarity and articulate value across Toptal's full portfolio: specialized talent, global hiring and payroll through HireGlobal, and our AI-driven, platform-powered, outcome-focused services offerings. Your ownership continues after the first call. You will represent the client through technical stages, keep them engaged between conversations, and resolve issues that slow a decision. You will manage those active opportunities alongside new incoming inquiries, knowing when to bring in specialists for deeper expertise. Our ideal candidate is ambitious, competitive, driven by client service, and pairs that drive with genuine curiosity about how businesses work. If you want to build real consultative selling skills in a fast-paced environment and be compensated for it, this is the team you want to be part of. This is a remote position. We do not offer visa sponsorship or assistance. Resumes and communication must be submitted in English. Responsibilities The following information is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or required skills. Discovery and Diagnosis: You will run high energy, open-ended discovery on every inbound conversation. You will quickly establish rapport, understand what prompted the client to reach out, and uncover the business objective behind the stated request. You will use this to build the necessary sales momentum to keep clients engaged, earning the right to recommend before you recommend. Qualify, Manage, and Win the Opportunity: You will quickly identify what is driving the need, whether there is a real opportunity, identify the metrics that matter most to the client, and who is involved in the decision. You will explain why the relevant Toptal offering fits, address the client's concerns, and ask for commitment. You will manage deal cycles from discovery through close and maintain accurate pipeline and forecast data in our CRM. Own progress after the call: You will give any necessary specialists a clear account of the client's needs and prepare them for subsequent conversations, stay close as technical questions are resolved, and keep the client engaged through the next decision. Maintain clear next steps, timing, and blockers for each active opportunity while responding to new inbound requests. Portfolio Selling: Clients rarely arrive with their full set of needs articulated. You will be responsible for understanding the client's broader growth plans, including global hiring, EOR and payroll needs, marketing and sales growth, financial, and technology challenges, and for positioning Toptal as a strategic partner rather than a single-transaction vendor. Client Experience: Clients are at the heart of everything we do. You will execute a client-centric approach across every interaction during pre-defined working hours, running rapid research on clients before outreach, asking focused questions to fill the gaps, and staying current on industry trends and the competitive landscape so that you bring a point of view to the conversation. Collaboration: You will work with your team and with cross-functional partners, including matching, delivery, HireGlobal, and Toptal's service offerings experts, to respond promptly to high-volume inbound inquiries and to bring the right expertise into a deal at the right moment. Communicating clearly over Zoom and Slack is critical. Growth and Development: Our SMB team improves individually and as a team. You will review your own calls, seek and act on feedback, and contribute what you learn back to the team. In the first week, expect to: Onboard and integrate into Toptal. Learn Toptal's model, our team members, and our story. Begin our 1-1 sales training covering our value proposition, discovery framework, sales process, and delivery method. Become acquainted with the cross-functional teams you will work with to close new business. Listen to recorded client calls and identify what the advisor did well and what they missed. In the first month, expect to: Complete our personalized sales training program, including mock calls and role-play scenarios. Run an inbound conversation independently: identify the client's need, explain the relevant offering and value proposition, handle common concerns, and ask for commitment. Prepare clear briefs to bring necessary specialist teams into opportunities. Begin closing new business, while exercising discretion and independent judgment. In the first three months, expect to: Be fully ramped and integrated into the team. Complete additional vertical-specific training. Manage incoming leads alongside active opportunities, keep clients engaged through technical stages, and deliver against conversion and conversation-quality targets. Maintain a healthy, accurately forecast pipeline moving through your funnel. In the first six months, expect to: Have a solid history of claiming and closing new business by consistently meeting or exceeding both sales and quality expectations and targets. Identify where opportunities are losing momentum and improve your follow-through using evidence from your own work. Suggest process improvement areas to increase team efficiency and effectiveness, which may include providing consultation or advice to management on policies and procedures. In the first year, expect to: Mentor new team members, helping them learn our model and pass along standard methodologies. Demonstrate sustained sales and quality performance across initial conversion and continued partnership opportunities on inbound existing clients. Be a reference point for the team on discovery quality and on positioning the full Toptal portfolio. Become a productive, collaborative, and consistent contributor to the team. Required Qualifications 2–3 years of B2B sales experience (Account Executive, Inside Sales, Sales Development, Account Representative, or a related role). Demonstrated experience converting inbound opportunities into paying customers at scale, owning the sale from first call to close. Experience coordinating parallel sales opportunities, and maintaining sales momentum while other teams complete necessary work. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Full availability during your working hours to take client calls. Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly growing company, managing a high volume of clients alongside competing deadlines. Exceptional time management is key to success in this role. Preferred Qualifications Software, tech, or professional-services sales experience. Exposure to a named sales methodology — MEDDPICC, Challenger, SPIN, Sandler, or similar. Experience selling more than one product or service line into the same account. Familiarity with global hiring, EOR, or payroll concepts. Fluency with modern sales tooling, including AI-assisted research, call review, and CRM workflows. Core Competencies Consultative discovery. You ask open-ended questions, listen for what is not being said, and diagnose before you prescribe. You are comfortable sitting in a question rather than rushing to a pitch. Qualification discipline. You know the difference between interest and intent. You can articulate why a deal will close, who will sign, and what happens if the client does nothing. Business acumen. You can hold a credible conversation with a founder or business owner about growth, hiring, cost, and risk — and connect what you sell to what they are trying to achieve. Point of view. You bring insight to the conversation. You are willing to respectfully reframe a client's thinking when their stated request isn't the best path to their goal. Client-centricity. You uncover and resolve client issues through value-based selling, and you are direct about fit when Toptal isn't the right answer. Will to win. You are naturally competitive and looking to exceed quota, not just meet it. We provide a base salary plus uncapped commission, and we want our Client Advisors to make the most of it. Learn-it-all mindset. You constantly seek feedback from peers and leaders, review your own calls, and share what you learn with the team. Ownership. You operate as a self-directed individual contributor who takes full accountability for your pipeline and your results, while collaborating effectively with the cross-functional partners who help you win. Each track operates as a mini-business, empowered with dedicated resources (e.g., product marketing, data analytics, and operational support) and direct accountability for performance. Why this role matters at Pennylane As Chief of Staff to the CTO, you operate as a senior leader in the Tech organisation. Your leverage does not come from managing teams but from owning the hardest problems that sit between them, and from being technical enough to earn the trust of the other engineering leaders. You are the person the CTO trusts with ambiguous, org-wide problems. You turn that ambiguity into a clear framing, a decision, an owner and a measurable outcome. This is not a coordination role. You are expected to have opinions on engineering strategy, staffing choices and technical trade-offs, and to defend them in front of the Tech leadership team. Team and Context Pennylane's Tech organisation is 70+ squads, each led by an Engineering Manager working with a PM and a Product Designer. We serve 1.5m+ customers and we want to scale in Europe. At that size, the hard problems are no longer inside a squad: how the organisation plans, how it decides, how it measures itself, how it invests in foundations without stalling product delivery. That is your perimeter. You report directly to Quentin, Co-founder & CTO. Your influence comes from the scope of what you own and from credibility with senior engineering leaders, which is why we ask for a technical background. As the organisation grows, this role can evolve towards a management position. Key missions Engineering strategy and transversal initiatives Own the strategic, cross-organization initiatives that no single squad can carry: platform or architecture programmes, reliability and quality step-changes, engineering productivity, technical debt paydown Frame the problem, build the technical and business case, secure alignment across Engineering, Product and Security to drive execution Lead the Tech side of company-level programmes (e.g. European expansion, major compliance or infrastructure shifts) alongside the rest of the Tech leadership Planning & Performance tracking Own the Tech planning cycle: collect the inputs, surface the trade-offs (capacity vs. platform, run vs. new bets), and drive the arbitration with Tech leadership Drive the definition and calibration of Tech OKRs, and hold the organisation accountable Define what "good" looks like for a 70+ squad engineering organization and build the metrics that measure it (delivery cadence, reliability, quality, staffing and attrition, engineering satisfaction) Decision-making and leadership cadence Own the Tech leadership operating system: staff meetings, QBRs, roadmap and architecture reviews. You design them, set the agenda, write or commission the pre-reads, frame the decisions to be made, and make sure decisions land Maintain the CTO's decision log: what was decided, by whom, with what trade-off, and what happened next Raise the quality of decision-making across the Tech leadership team Communication Lead internal and operational communications across the engineering organization, building clear messaging systems from board decks down to team-wide updates Who you'll work with? CTO and Tech leadership (Head of Engineering / Head of Data / Senior Engineering Managers) Rest of the leadership (CPO, VP Strategic Initiatives) Other relevant teams (e.g. Security, Finance, People) Who we're looking for Must-have An engineering degree (engineering, computer science or equivalent scientific curriculum) Technical fluency: you can read a design doc, follow an architecture discussion, challenge an estimate or a trade-off, and be taken seriously by senior engineers 7-10 years of experience, including significant time inside a tech organisation at scale (multiple squads, platform teams), where you have lived the problems of scaling engineering A track record of owning complex, cross-organisational initiatives from framing to measurable outcome with senior stakeholders Outstanding written communication: this role produces documents that senior people act on Fluency in English Nice-to-have A hands-on engineering past: software engineer, engineering manager, Technical Program Manager, architect or equivalent Experience as a Chief of Staff, VP/Director of Engineering Operations, or in a strategy & operations function inside a product-led tech company What you can expect? Within one month You'll complete the company and Tech onboarding, including our application, accounting domain and engineering practices You'll have met the Tech leadership team and formed your own view of where the organisation loses time, quality or alignment You'll have taken ownership of the leadership cadence and the next planning milestone Within 3-6 months You'll be leading selected org-wide strategic initiatives end-to-end, with a measurable target The Tech organisation will have a metrics picture it trusts and uses to make decisions You'll be a recognised voice in the senior tech community at Pennylane, consulted on decisions rather than just informed of them You'll be shaping the engineering narrative that the rest of the company and the board hear Recruitment Process - Screening interview with Barbara - Senior Recruiter (30 mins) - An interview with Eric - VP Strategic Initiatives (1h) - A Business Case to prepare at home and to present (1h) - A final interview with Quentin - CTO (45 mins) What do we do to make your work life easier 🌴 Wherever you are based, you will get 25 vacations days paid by Pennylane 💵 You'll have a competitive compensation package 📈 You'll get company shares to enjoy a piece of the success story you're building with us 🏡 You'll have a budget to turn your home into a more comfortable workspace, as well as a monthly allowance to work from a coworking space whenever you feel like it ⛹️ Through our partner Gymlib, you'll have access to 8000 fitness spaces in Europe and more than 300 activities related to wellness 🇬🇧 You'll have access to Busuu to perfect your English or your French 💻 You'll get the latest Apple equipment 🏢 Depending on the teams and the requirements of the position - you'll be able to work remotely from your country of residence, as long as it is in Europe and within a maximum time difference of two hours from the CET time zone 🎉 We are committed to regularly coming together for company events such as Tech Days (which bring remote Pennylaners together every 3 months) or our annual company seminar, fostering significant moments of cohesion for everyone. If you are based in France, you will have a French contract following French regulation on top of the additional perks : 6 to 12 RTT, 5 weeks PTOs, lunch credits (Swile), Alan Blue healthcare cover and regular events in cities where Pennylaners are mostly presents (Lyon, Bordeaux, Nantes…) We're working on providing those last advantages to our people based outside of France as well, but it can be quite more complex depending on different countries. Who are we looking for ? To thrive at Pennylane, you need : -To speak English (level is assessed and appreciated according to the department you're applying to) -To be energized by an ever-shifting work environment -To be highly collaborative (within your team or other stakeholders) -Sufficiently experienced to prioritize business-led actions on your day to day activity We know that some people are less likely to apply than others, if they don't feel like they meet the full list of criteria. If you're hesitating, we encourage you to apply : who knows, it might be the start of a meaningful and long-lasting collaboration.
