Legal AI Engineer (Berlin or Leipzig)
Full TimeOn-siteMid
gogitconcreteprocurementcompliancecompliance+5

Description Legartis is on a mission: to unlock legal work at scale. We set the standard for AI-powered contract work by offering a platform that changes how legal teams work, from drafting through negotiation to completion. We are now looking for the person who turns what customers actually need into what our AI actually does. Joining Legartis is not taking a job, you take ownership. We are a team of product builders and lawyers, who do not chase hype; we build substance. If you are a lawyer who builds, someone who has stopped waiting for better tools and started making them, this is your moment and your place. Send us your CV, a short note on why Legartis, and links to anything you have built or published. Your mission Most companies split this seat across three teams, and that split is exactly the problem. The person who hears the customer describe their workflow should be the person who writes the requirement, and the person who writes the requirement should be able to build the first version themselves. That is you. 1. You translate customer reality into engineering requirements — and into revenue. You sit in customer and expert calls alongside Sales, not as a note-taker but as the person who understands the legal work. In trials and hackathons you coach hands-on: the customer drives, you navigate, and they create the first "wow" moment themselves. When they say "that won't work for us" or "we'll build it ourselves", you answer with a concrete path (a workaround, a workflow, the honest maintenance cost of the alternative) and you leave every conversation with a next step: trial licenses, a hackathon, a scoped rollout. Then you pull out the workflow: what actually happens, in what order, where it breaks, what the customer would pay to never do again. And you write the spec, edge cases, and acceptance criteria that Engineering can build against. 2. You build the skills yourself. You write, test, and ship agent skills and playbooks that solve real customer workflows. You build the evaluation frameworks and test sets that prove they got better rather than just different. When the AI fails on a clause, you diagnose why, at the prompt and context level, and you either fix it or hand Engineering a diagnosis precise enough to act on. 3. You make it repeatable, and therefore sellable. Anything you build once for one customer, you turn into something Sales and Customer Success can run without you. Standard demo environments. A skill library they can reach for. Onboarding that lands in days rather than months. Where Customer Success needs legal depth you step in, fix it, and turn the fix into something the team can handle alone next time. Your success is measured by how rarely you need to be in the room, and by what happens to adoption and expansion when you are not. 4. You are the legal authority in the building. Legal and compliance questions land with you: contract reviews, customer security and data protection questions, the occasional in-house matter which makes roughly ten to fifteen percent of your time. You use our own product to do it, and you tell us honestly when it is not good enough. Your profile The person we picture. There is a name emerging for what we are describing, and it is not "lawyer who is good with computers". It is legal quant : a lawyer who builds their own tooling to practise law, rather than waiting for a vendor to ship it. The distinction that matters to us: plenty of lawyers now use AI. A legal quant builds with it. They look at a workflow and ask how to redesign it from first principles to get the best possible outcome, rather than making the existing process incrementally faster. A note on how we are weighting this role. Three capabilities make someone exceptional here: commercial instinct, legal depth, and technical ability to build. The ideal candidate has all three. We know that person is rare, and we are not going to pretend otherwise by writing a wish list and hoping. So for this role we weight the technical evidence most heavily, because it is the hardest of the three to teach on the job. If you believe you genuinely combine all three, we want to talk to you regardless of how neatly your CV matches the bullets below. Say so in your note and tell us what you have built and what you have sold. 1. Technical track record. You have built things and they exist and ideally you have published some of it. You are fluent with LLMs the way a practitioner is fluent, not a spectator: you know how context windows fail you or why a prompt stopped working. When something breaks you go into the system rather than around it. Scripting, Git, and APIs are a strong plus. 2. Legal foundation. A law degree with a commercial-contracts focus: German-qualified (Bachelor, Master, or Staatsexamen) or an equivalent qualification from another jurisdiction. No bar admission required, no second Staatsexamen required. What we need: you have worked hands-on with German commercial contracts, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating them, and you can hold a conversation with a General Counsel as a peer. 3. Commercial and entrepreneurial track record. You have carried commercial responsibility for something of your own: a freelance client base, a legal tech product, or a company you started. You know what it takes to win a client from a standing start and why "they did not understand the value" is never the customer's fault. If instead you have supported enterprise sales teams in demos, pilots, and expert calls, tell us what you changed about the outcome. You prioritise by impact, you are comfortable deciding without permission, and you would rather ship something imperfect this week than something elegant next quarter. 4. Language. Excellent German and English. German is non-negotiable: our customers are DACH legal teams and the nuance lives in their language. You can run a room of legal buyers, ask the sharp question, and write a specification precise enough to build from. Other EU languages are a plus. Why us? Impact over hype. You define a new discipline at the intersection of law, product, and AI. Your work directly shapes how thousands of legal professionals will operate. No silos. You sit between Product, Engineering, and the customer, with a direct line to all three. The better argument wins, not the higher title. We invest in you. The enterprise motion (multi-stakeholder pilots, procurement cycles, security reviews) is teachable, and we teach it: side by side in real customer calls from week one. Real ownership. Competitive salary and employee stock options (ESOP). Build in public. We want you to keep publishing what you build, because it makes you better and it makes us visible. Offices in Berlin, Leipzig, and Zurich with a flexible hybrid setup. Regular apéros, lunches, and hiking trips as we enjoy the journey together. Process Expectations. A conversation with the People Manager about the role and who you are. Depth. A conversation with our General Counsel & Head of Legal AI on Legal Engineering at Legartis and where the legal market is going. Build session. A live case at the intersection of legal reasoning, prompting, and product work: a real customer scenario, a legal AI workflow, or a playbook that misbehaves. Meet the team in Leipzig or Berlin. A mutual decision, before we welcome you to the team. Find Jobs in Germany on Arbeitnow

Maintain accurate records in HubSpot, manage pipeline reporting, and provide reliable forecasts to support business planning and sales execution. Support opportunities across the United States when needed, coordinating with the wider team and accommodating regular calls during European evening hours. Help shape the future sales organization by establishing repeatable processes, sharing best practices, and contributing to the onboarding and development of future sales hires. Requirements: At least 4 years of experience in quota-carrying sales or closing roles, selling technical products to engineering-oriented buyers. Proven experience selling technical solutions, ideally within cloud infrastructure, DevOps, developer tooling, virtualization, serverless computing, or related technology markets. Demonstrated ability to build a sales pipeline from scratch through outbound prospecting, account research, networking, and targeted engagement strategies. Strong understanding of effective outbound sales practices, with the ability to develop compelling messaging, prioritize accounts, and guide others in improving prospecting performance. Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles involving technical evaluations, proof-of-concept programs, and extended decision-making processes. Ability to engage confidently with technical and economic buyers, including CTOs, platform engineering leaders, security stakeholders, procurement teams, and legal departments. Sufficient technical knowledge to discuss virtualization, containers, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, and related technologies credibly with engineering teams, combined with the curiosity and motivation to deepen your expertise. Experience converting pilots, proofs of concept, or technical evaluations into signed commercial agreements. Familiarity with usage-based pricing, consumption-based business models, minimum commitments, or other flexible commercial structures. Strong prospecting, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to make customers feel comfortable while maintaining a rigorous, analytical approach to sales. Excellent spoken and written English, with additional languages considered an advantage. A high degree of ownership, initiative, adaptability, and learning agility, with the ability to identify problems, take action independently, and continuously improve how work gets done. Strong analytical skills and a data-driven approach to pipeline management, deal qualification, forecasting, and sales performance. Willingness to attend industry events, travel regularly to customers across Europe, and occasionally travel to the United States. Availability to work remotely from a European location within approximately two hours of Central European Time (CET), with flexibility to accommodate regular calls during US business hours. Nice to have: Experience using AI tools to research accounts, personalize outreach, generate pipeline, automate sales workflows, and improve deal execution. Familiarity with HubSpot or comparable CRM and sales pipeline management platforms. A degree in computer science, engineering, or another technical discipline. Previous experience selling compute infrastructure, serverless platforms, sandboxing technologies, databases, Kubernetes tooling, or related developer infrastructure products. Knowledge of the competitive landscape across cloud infrastructure and developer platforms, including solutions such as Modal, E2B, Daytona, Fly.io, Northflank, Vercel, and Firecracker-based platforms. An established network among European platform engineering teams, cloud providers, systems integrators, or infrastructure decision-makers. Experience working with channel partners, resellers, cloud providers, or systems integrators to develop and close opportunities. Senior Applied Scientist, Efficient LLM Inference & Model Optimization
Full TimeOn-siteSenior
pythonrmachine learningpytorchllmelectrical engineering+5

About Nebius: Nebius is leading a new era in cloud infrastructure for the global AI economy. We are building a full-stack AI cloud platform that supports developers and enterprises from data and model training through to production deployment, without the cost and complexity of building large in-house AI/ML infrastructure. Built by engineers, for engineers. From large-scale GPU orchestration to inference optimization, we own the hard problems across compute, storage, networking and applied AI. Listed on Nasdaq (NBIS) and headquartered in Amsterdam, we have a global footprint with R&D hubs across Europe, the UK, North America and Israel. Our team of 1,500+ includes hundreds of engineers with deep expertise across hardware, software and AI R&D. The role Nebius Token Factory is looking for scientists who can turn frontier LLM and VLM inference bottlenecks into research questions, conduct rigorous experiments, and translate their findings into production capabilities. You will own focused research and optimization projects, write strong code, and produce prototypes, publications, and technical artifacts that engineers can build on. Your research will span quantization, distillation, speculative decoding, KV-cache optimization, and model/runtime co-optimization, alongside inference engines and distributed inference architectures. You will investigate how these approaches interact, evaluate their trade-offs across model quality, latency, throughput, memory footprint, and cost per token, and work with engineering teams to bring promising results into production. Your responsibilities Lead research projects in efficient LLM and VLM inference, from hypotheses and experiments through ablations, prototypes, and production handoff. Develop and evaluate methods spanning quantization, quantization-aware training (QAT), distillation, speculative decoding, KV-cache reuse, KV-cache compression, long-context inference, MoE routing, and model/runtime co-optimization. Build prototypes using PyTorch, Triton, CUDA-adjacent tooling, or inference-serving frameworks, and collaborate with MLEs and platform engineers to turn them into production components. Research LLM request routing and scheduling strategies, including cache-aware load balancing and prefill–decode disaggregation (PDD). Evaluate how queueing, KV-cache transfer, worker placement, and prefill/decode capacity allocation affect latency, throughput, and serving cost. Investigate multi-node inference for dense and mixture-of-experts models, including wide expert parallelism (WideEP). Study expert placement, load imbalance, and computation/communication trade-offs, and use the findings to guide model and system architecture choices. Develop rigorous evaluations covering quality, latency, throughput, numerical stability, memory footprint, tail latency, and cost per token. Compare serving architectures under consistent workload conditions and GPU budgets. Work with MLE, GPU kernel, backend infrastructure, product, and customer teams to select research priorities with measurable production impact. Share results through internal reports, technical blogs, papers, and open-source artifacts, and mentor engineers and scientists on experimental design, scientific rigor, and model/system trade-offs. Must-haves A PhD in computer science, machine learning, ML systems, computer systems, computer architecture, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or a closely related discipline. A strong publication record or equivalent research artifacts in ML, ML systems, efficient inference, model compression, quantization, distillation, serving systems, or related areas. Strong Python and PyTorch implementation skills, with the ability to turn ideas into experiments and working prototypes. Deep knowledge of LLMs, VLMs, transformer inference, decoding algorithms, model compression, quantization, and production-serving trade-offs. Strong experimental design skills covering ablations, baselines, metrics, statistical reasoning, and failure analysis. Excellent written and verbal communication. Nice-to-haves First-author publications at venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, MLSys, ACL, EMNLP, ASPLOS, OSDI, SOSP, ISCA, or HPCA. Experience deploying ML models or inference optimizations in production. Experience with vLLM, SGLang, TensorRT-LLM, NVIDIA Dynamo, FlashAttention, FlashInfer, Triton, CUDA, or PyTorch internals. Experience applying post-training, SFT, DPO, RLHF, RLAIF, preference optimization, or synthetic data generation to inference quality or efficiency. Open-source research artifacts, widely used benchmarks, technical blogs, or invited talks demonstrating contributions to efficient AI systems. Research or implementation experience in one or more areas of distributed inference system architecture, such as LLM request routing, PDD, multi-node serving, or MoE expert parallelism, including WideEP. Benefits & Perks: Competitive compensation Career growth and learning opportunities Flexibility and ownership Collaborative and innovative culture Opportunity to work on impactful AI projects International environment and talented teams What's it like to work at Nebius: Fast moving - Bold thinking - Constant growth - Meaningful impact - Trust and real ownership - Opportunity to shape the future of AI Equal Opportunity Statement: Nebius is an equal opportunity employer.
