Analytics Engineer
PleoDenmark, Portugal, Spain, UK (Fully Remote)10 days ago
Full TimeFully RemoteDirector$40,000 - $40,000 / Year
gogcpsqlbigquerydbtdata science+9

About Pleo Messy spend management is tricky business. And tedious processes are a lose-lose situation for all involved, not just finance. At Pleo, we're changing that. We build spend solutions that make managing money seamless, empowering, and surprisingly effective for finance teams and employees alike - with a vision to help all businesses 'go beyond'. The word 'Pleo' actually means 'more than you'd expect', and living by that mantra has been the secret to our success over the last 10 years. Now, we're at a pivotal moment in our journey; every move we make has a direct impact on our 40,000+ customers, our business, and our collective success. We need people who take pride in uncovering customer needs, who turn complex problems into simple solutions, challenge the way things are done (respectfully), and always aim high. With great ambitions driving us forward, we can't say we've got this whole thing figured out. And frankly, that's half the fun! What we can say is that we're a driven, progressive, and, importantly, a kind bunch of 850+ people from over 100 nationalities, all committed to delivering the future of business spending, together. About the role Pleo's Intelligence function covers the full analytical picture - product behaviour, GTM performance, commercial data science, financial reporting, and operational intelligence. The Analytics Engineers who serve these teams own the data modelling layer that all of it runs on: dbt models, metric definitions, and semantic layer contributions that analysts, product teams, and AI tools depend on to get consistent, trustworthy answers. You'll be embedded in the Product Intelligence team, building the tracking, experimentation, and data modelling foundations that make product data trustworthy and self-serve. You'll join a close-knit team actively migrating our analytics stack onto a new Analytics Warehouse and Omni, moving off legacy tools like Looker and Hippocampus. If you want to build the infrastructure that other people's product decisions run on rather than just report on what exists, this is the opportunity for you. Who you'll work with and reporting to You will report to an Analytics Manager leading Product Intelligence and Growth Intelligence. You'll partner closely with Product Managers, Product Analysts, and Engineering to get tracking, experimentation, and metric definitions right from the ground up. You'll also engage with the broader Analytics Engineering community across Pleo to drive shared standards, especially around the semantic layer that keeps metrics consistent across the organization. What you'll be doing Build and maintain dbt models in our new Analytics Warehouse, using a clean, layered architecture and migrating logic off legacy tools as you go. Own tracking plan implementation and QA directly in Segment and Amplitude in close partnership with Product and Engineering. Support experimentation by modelling assignment and outcome data into structured formats that analysts and PMs can query directly. Define and document metrics in our semantic layer, ensuring a single authoritative definition so downstream BI tools and AI applications yield consistent answers. Apply AI-augmented data modelling practices as a standard part of how you write, review, and migrate code. Partner with Product Managers and Analysts to turn one-off questions into durable, reusable data models. Maintain data quality in your domain through dbt tests, freshness SLAs, and proactive monitoring. What you bring Solid SQL and dbt experience, with a clear comfort owning models end to end. Working knowledge of event-based tracking tools like Segment or Amplitude. Experience with Git-based development workflows, including opening and reviewing pull requests. Clear communication skills to explain data definitions and structures to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Genuine day-to-day use of AI tooling as part of your standard coding and workflow routine. Comfort navigating ambiguity and untangling legacy logic to build modern foundations. This role is NOT a good fit if You only want to write dashboards without touching or owning the underlying data models. You require rigid processes and heavy upfront structure before taking initiative. You prefer to avoid data migration, cleanup work, and legacy system refactoring. Your first 6 months Ramp up: Master our dbt project structure, tracking plans, and migration roadmap while shipping small, reviewed code changes early on. Take ownership: Own a dedicated slice of the migration, such as an event domain or our core experimentation data models. Drive consistency: Establish semantic layer definitions for your domain so analysts and PMs can self-serve accurate metrics without custom workarounds. Our tech stack context Data warehouse: GCP / BigQuery (new Analytics Warehouse) Transformation: dbt Orchestration: Airflow Tracking and Oroduct Analytics: Segment, Amplitude BI and Analytics: Omni (migrating off legacy Looker and Hippocampus) Languages: SQL Show me the benefits! Your own Pleo card (no more out-of-pocket spending!) Lunch is on us for your work days—enjoy catered meals or receive a lunch allowance based on your local office. Comprehensive private healthcare depending on your location (coverage options include Vitality, Alan, or Médis). 25 days of annual holiday plus public holidays, with the option to purchase 5 additional days through salary sacrifice. Flexible working options supporting both hybrid and fully remote setups. Free mental health and well-being support through MyndUp. Generous paid parental leave policies to support growing families. The interview process Intro Call: 30 minutes with our Talent Partner SQL Test: Completed via CoderPad Hiring Manager Interview: 45 minutes with our Data & Analytics Manager Team Interview & Live Case: Data modelling case via CodeSignal Final Interview: 30 minutes with our VP of Data & AI Transparency is important to us so we also wanted to share some insights about what we're looking for in applications to ensure you can set yourself up for success! Last time we hired an Analytics Engineer, we received a total of 173 applications but only 10 were selected for an intro call. Some of the key reasons why previous candidates didn't make it past the application screening stage include: CV writing and content: it was very clear that many of the CVs we saw were very generic and AI generated. There is no issue with leveraging AI to help with CV writing, there was little indication of what real impact the candidates had in their previous experience. You might have heard of the "Achieved X, as measured by Y, by doing Z" formula (credit Laszlo Bock ~2014), this is a great way to give a clear picture of what you have actually worked on. Some link or quick description of the companies you've worked with is also a great help. Application care: every single application we receive is reviewed by a human (yes, hundreds of them) because we believe that candidates' efforts should be matched by an equal level of human care. This means that we expect a similar level of attention put into your application. Read and answer the application questions carefully, they make a huge difference in our decision-making process. Profile to role fit: there was misunderstanding about the type of experience we expect from an Analytics Engineer and we received many applications from candidates who had never been exposed to a product-led environment or had been exclusively focused on SQL/dbt work when we're looking for both technical and stakeholders management and team collaboration experience. To be perfectly clear, this is NOT a Data Engineer role or a Data Analyst role! This is a heavily-driven dbt modelling role, experience in this area is critical. We've taken great care in writing this role description to reflect the reality of the job as best as possible, please ensure you read it carefully and highlight on your CV the experience relevant to what we are looking for. About your application English first. Since it's our company language, please submit your application in English. You'll be using it a lot if you join us. A fair look for everyone. Our talent team reads every single application to ensure the process is fair. To keep things running smoothly, we only accept applications through our system—our support team can't pass on calls or emails. Diversity drives us. We can only reach our goals if our team reflects the world around us. That starts with you hitting apply, even if you don't tick every single box. We encourage people from all backgrounds and experiences to join us. Interview at your best. We want you to feel comfortable throughout the process. If you have any accessibility requirements or need a specific format, email belonging@pleo.io. We'll design a process that works for you. Your data is safe. When you apply, we process your personal data as a data processor. For more information on how Pleo processes personal data, read our Privacy Policy here . Applying for multiple roles? Nothing is stopping you, and we assess every role independently. However, we do look for alignment, so make sure you can explain why your interest and experience are right for each specific role. Reapplying. If you're applying for the same role again, please wait six months from your last decision before hitting submit.

What we can say is that we're a driven, progressive, and, importantly, a kind bunch of 850+ people from over 100 nationalities, all committed to delivering the future of business spending, together. About the role We are looking for a Fraud Analyst to join Pleo's Decision Intelligence team and help strengthen how we detect, prevent, monitor, and respond to fraud risk across our financial crime decisioning setup. This is not a traditional Fraud Operations case-handling role. You will work closer to the decisioning layer: helping translate fraud patterns into rules, monitoring rule performance, supporting rule testing, reviewing alert behaviour, and making sure fraud controls remain effective, explainable, and proportionate. You will join at an important stage as Pleo continues to mature its fraud and AML decisioning capability. The right person will help improve speed, resilience, and quality in how we create, test, deploy, monitor, and tune fraud rules. What you'll be doing You will help operate and improve Pleo's fraud decisioning capability, with a focus on card fraud and related financial crime risk scenarios. Your responsibilities will include: Supporting the end-to-end fraud rule lifecycle: from rule proposal and analysis through testing, deployment, monitoring, tuning, and rollback. Working directly in, or closely with, decisioning tools and rule engines to support fraud detection logic. Analysing fraud patterns, alert trends, false positives, false negatives, and rule performance. Translating FraudOps insights and stakeholder requests into clear, structured rule proposals. Helping assess whether new rules or threshold changes are justified by data. Monitoring post-deployment rule performance and identifying when rules need adjustment. Supporting daily operational requests related to fraud controls, while ensuring changes are traceable and well documented. Partnering with FraudOps, AML, Product, Engineering, Data, Compliance, and Legal to make sure decisioning changes are aligned and risk-aware. Maintaining clear documentation for fraud rules, rationale, expected impact, testing outcomes, and monitoring results. Helping reduce single points of failure by building repeatable processes and stronger business continuity around fraud decisioning. What we're looking for We are looking for someone who combines fraud domain knowledge with practical experience working in a decisioning environment. You should have: Experience as a Fraud Analyst, Risk Analyst, Fraud Strategy Analyst, Fraud Rules Analyst, Decisioning Analyst, or similar. Hands-on experience with a decisioning tool, fraud rules engine, risk platform, or internal decisioning system. Experience creating, testing, monitoring, or tuning fraud rules, thresholds, scenarios, or risk logic. Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data to assess rule performance and fraud patterns. Good understanding of fraud typologies, especially card fraud, transaction fraud, account misuse, or payment fraud. Ability to balance fraud prevention with customer impact and operational workload. Experience working with false positives and understanding that good fraud controls require continuous monitoring and tuning. Strong written communication skills, with the ability to explain rule logic, rationale, risks, and expected outcomes clearly. Comfort working cross-functionally with FraudOps, Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Data teams. A structured mindset and appreciation for documentation, traceability, governance, and change control. Fintech, banking, payments, spend management, or regulated financial services. SQL or basic data analysis. What success looks like In your first 3 months, success would look like: You understand Pleo's fraud decisioning setup and can confidently support day-to-day rule operations. Fraud rule requests are better structured, documented, and traceable. Rule changes are supported by data, clear rationale, and expected impact. Post-deployment monitoring is more consistent and visible. FraudOps and DI have a stronger operating rhythm for proposing, reviewing, deploying, and tuning fraud controls. Why join us? This is a rare opportunity to help shape a growing decisioning function from the inside. You will not just be reviewing fraud alerts, you will help define how fraud detection logic is built, governed, monitored, and improved. You will join a team that is building the foundations for more scalable, data-driven, and resilient financial crime decisioning. If you enjoy working at the intersection of fraud strategy, operations, data, systems, and product, this role will give you real ownership and impact. Apply if this sounds like you You are analytical, structured, curious, and comfortable challenging assumptions. You know that fraud rules are never "set and forget." You understand the importance of balancing risk reduction, customer experience, operational workload, and governance. Most importantly, you have worked with decisioning tools or rule-based risk systems before and want to help build a stronger fraud decisioning capability at scale. The location Please note: We can hire on a remote, hybrid or in-person set-up in any of the locations listed on the advert but you will need to be physically based in the country of your choice with a valid right to work . Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring a Senior Product Manager, Virtual Care to join our Product team. Oscar is the first health insurance company built around a full stack technology platform and a relentless focus on serving our members. We started Oscar in 2012 to create the kind of health insurance company we would want for ourselves—one that behaves like a doctor in the family.   About the role: As a Senior Product Manager, you'll lead product development for Oscar Virtual Care (OVC), improving how members access care and how clinicians deliver it. Your work will span the experience before, during, and after a visit, from intake and scheduling to clinical documentation, treatment, and follow-up. Oscar brings together a health plan and its own care delivery organization, creating an opportunity to connect product decisions directly to the cost and quality of care. You'll work with clinical and business partners to identify where technology can help members get the care they need. This includes improving access to virtual care and health assessments, supporting effective clinical workflows, and reducing administrative work for care teams. You'll turn ambiguous problems into a clear product direction, align partners around priorities, and work with engineering, design, and data science to deliver and measure results. You will report into a Director, Product Management. Work Location: This position is based in our New York City office, requiring a hybrid work schedule with 3 days of in-office work per week. Thursdays are a required in-office day for team meetings and events, while your other two office days are flexible to suit your schedule. #LI-Hybrid Pay Transparency: The base pay for this role is: $163,944.00 - $215,176.50 per year. Combine user research with data analysis to identify problems, challenge assumptions, and build a business case for product investments. Improve the member journey from finding and accessing care through the visit and follow-up. Reduce friction in intake and scheduling, improve visit completion, and help care teams share context and coordinate next steps. Build tools that help clinicians deliver high-quality care efficiently, including reviewing medical history, documenting encounters, addressing care gaps, and ordering appropriate tests and treatments. Evaluate opportunities for AI and automation to reduce administrative work while maintaining clinical quality. Define success metrics and measure the clinical, financial, and operational impact of product changes. Use findings to refine priorities and improve the experience after launch. Lead alignment across clinical, operations, engineering, design, and data science partners. Bring clear recommendations, work through competing needs and tradeoffs, and establish decisions that move the work forward. Own complex initiatives from problem definition through delivery. Write clear requirements, manage dependencies and risks, and resolve issues across teams with the autonomy expected of a Senior Product Manager. Invest in strengthening the talent on Oscar's product team, by developing more junior team members through mentorship. Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Other duties as assigned. Requirements: 6+ years of experience collaborating cross-functionally among engineers, designers, operations experts, and others in a Product Management or Product Management-adjacent role. 4+ years of experience in driving rigorous prioritization processes. 4+ years of experience with tech systems and understanding basic technology infrastructure such as backend services, database relationships, and leveraging database tools such as SQL. 2+ years of experience leading complex, cross-domain initiatives. 2+ years of experience root-causing ambiguous problems, building roadmaps towards a solution, and successfully executing against that roadmap. Bonus points 1+ years of experience building clinician-facing experiences.    This is an authentic Oscar Health job opportunity. At Oscar, being an Equal Opportunity Employer means more than upholding discrimination-free hiring practices.
