Senior C++ Performance Engineer
Full TimeOn-siteSenior
c++agilelinuxarchitectureschedulingtrading+1

About the role At Agile Robots, we build powerful software frameworks to orchestrate complex robotic systems and solve challenging tasks. The solutions are sold to various international customers to enable them to control their robotic work cells. Smooth integration and scalable deployment are key goals. AgileCore is meant to be a scalable platform that supports multiple projects in parallel. That only works if the platform underneath scales with it - if it stays fast, thread-safe, and diagnosable as projects, devices, and operating conditions multiply. We are looking for a Senior C++ Performance Engineer to join our AgileCore Runtime core team. This is a T-shaped role in a small senior team: you are a full member of the core team first - contributing to the Runtime, reviewing contributions from the teams that build on our platform, and sharing our support and release duties - and within the team, you own the performance and stability practice as your specialization. On the specialization side, you will drive the performance of the Runtime core - the Blackboard, the Behavior Engine and the execution paths beneath them - make the system provably thread-safe under load, and make failures in the field fast to diagnose. You own the practice: the methodology, the tooling, the benchmarks, the audits and the education. You work hand in hand with the platform architect, who owns the performance budgets and hot-path interface contracts at the architecture level - you turn those budgets into measured, enforced reality and shape them with your findings. You set the standard for performance, concurrency and troubleshooting, and raise the team's ability to meet it without slowing feature development down. This is a shipping role, not a research role: success is measured in merged improvements, closed field escalations and green regression gates - not in microbenchmark leaderboards. We optimize to the budget the product needs, not to zero. Why this role Greenfield performance infrastructure: the benchmark suites, budgets and CI regression gates are yours to build, not inherit A measurable, physical problem: your profiling and your benchmarks run against real robots on our hardware-in-the-loop rigs - where third-party plugins meet 1 kHz vendor control loops A small senior core team with real ownership: your work becomes the standard the whole platform builds on Your Responsibilities: Own the latency, throughput, and jitter of the Runtime core components - the Blackboard (our typed, subscribable in-process data plane) and the Behavior Engine (skill execution tree, trigger handling) - and carry improvements end to end: from flame graph to merged change to a regression gate that keeps it fixed Build the real-time basis for the platform: scheduling policies and priorities, CPU affinity, allocation, and page-fault discipline on hot paths, and lock-free structures where they pay for themselves Be a full member of the Runtime core team: develop core components, review contributions from feature teams building on the platform, and take part in the team's support and release rotations Make performance measurable and enforced - benchmark suites, per-subsystem budgets, and regression gates in CI instead of surprises at a customer site Be the hands-on authority on thread safety: ownership models, lock hierarchies, memory-order reasoning, and eliminating whole classes of races through sanitizers, stress and soak testing Ensure the product holds across the complete operational domain it is used in - every supported device, load profile, and deployment topology, not only the configurations that appear in a demo Improve debuggability so that factory deployment and support scale: tracing, structured logging, runtime metrics, crash and core-dump handling, symbols for stripped release binaries Carry performance and stability into the Plugin SDK and its C ABI, where third-party plugins meet vendor control loops running at 1 kHz Investigate complex issues across software, OS, network, and hardware boundaries - including the hardest escalations from the field Partner with the platform architect on performance-critical design: propose and implement improvements within the platform's performance budgets and hot-path interface contracts, and feed measurements back into how those budgets are set Mentor engineers in performance, concurrency, and troubleshooting through code reviews, deep-dive sessions, design discussions and technical guidance - without producing overhead Essential Skills: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong hands-on C++ development Based in Munich or open to relocate - we support relocation and visa sponsorship Strong written and verbal communication skills in English Strong experience with modern C++, ideally C++17 or C++20, including templates and compile-time design Proven performance engineering: profiling before optimizing, reading flame graphs and hardware counters, and reasoning about tail latency and jitter rather than averages A track record of shipped performance work: improvements you carried from measurement through merged code to sustained enforcement in CI - not benchmarks in isolation Strong experience with multi-threaded and concurrent programming: memory models, atomics, lock-free patterns, and the judgment to know when a plain mutex is the right answer Exposure to real-time or near-real-time systems on Linux is strongly preferred: scheduling policies, preemption, priority inversion, CPU affinity, and the usual sources of jitter - deep prior RT experience is a plus, not a gate; the performance fundamentals matter more Strong debugging skills using GDB, sanitizers (ASan/TSan/UBSan), Valgrind, perf, strace, ltrace, tcpdump, and core dumps Solid understanding of Linux internals: processes, threads, IPC, signals, scheduling, memory management, buffering, and dynamic linking Experience with CMake and compiler toolchains (GCC, Clang) Experience writing automated tests, including unit tests, integration tests, and hardware-related test strategies, as well as benchmarks and stress/soak tests A pragmatic, team-first senior mindset: you optimize the things that matter to the product and stop when the budget is met; you share reviews, support, and release duties in a small senior team; you make your specialty a capability of the whole team rather than a silo - and you would rather ship a 30% win this week than discuss a 3% win for a month Beneficial Skills: Database internals: storage and index structures, concurrency control, MVCC, transaction and cache design - our Blackboard is essentially an in-process typed store Contributions to high-performance or systems software: allocators, runtimes, engines, databases, network stacks, kernels A low-latency background: trading systems, real-time audio or video, telecom, or embedded motion control Extensive template metaprogramming and compile-time computation Knowledge of real-time Linux, kernel scheduling, IRQ handling, kernel/user-space boundaries, and latency measurement with cyclictest, ftrace or eBPF C++ ABI and plugin / shared-library API design that stays stable across compilers and toolchain versions Hands-on experience with instrumentation profilers such as Tracy (we use it), as well as perf, VTune, or similar Windows internals and the MSVC toolchain - parts of the platform also ship on Windows Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, UDP, sockets, latency, buffering, and packet flow Experience designing maintainable architectures - clear ownership, separation of concerns, testability - in systems constrained by time, not only by features What we offer A dynamic high-tech company, combined with financial soundness and world-class investors. Join an interdisciplinary, international team with 60+ different nationalities in a collaborative work environment. Lots of development opportunities as we continue to grow. Challenging tasks and impactful projects alongside experts that enable professional and personal growth. Corporate Benefits Program covering health, mobility, and learning for 100€ net per month. Modern office facilities with a rooftop terrace overlooking Munich, free drinks & fruits, and regular company events contribute to a good working environment About us Agile Robots SE is an international high-tech company based in Munich, Germany with a production site in Kaufbeuren and more than 3500 employees worldwide. ABOUT US At Heim, we are reinventing how healthcare is delivered. We believe that healthcare is best delivered in the home of patients, and that we are at the cusp of a systemic shift away from hospital based care. Our mission is to expand access to in-person clinical care at home by empowering community nurses with technology that makes care delivery more efficient. We have created an AI native ecosystem that optimises the complex scheduling involved in delivering community based care, and are on track to automate every non clinical touchpoint for nurses. To date, our technology has powered our network of 400+ practitioners to deliver c. 30K appointments, and we have shown that our algorithms bring down the cost of at-home visits by c.35% whilst freeing up valuable time for care in doing so. We are growing fast and our ambitions are big – with new international markets on the roadmap, and strong investor backing. Our aim is to create the most productive, AI-enabled distributed clinical workforce working at the intersection of public and private health.By joining Heim, you will play a pivotal role in building the infrastructure that puts clinical care in the home. WHAT IT'S LIKE TO WORK AT HEIM We are reinventing how healthcare is delivered. Here are the things that shape your day-to-day: Meaningful problems – we build systems that improve how organisations understand and care for people. The work is complex, applied, and grounded in real-world patient impact High standards, low ego – you'll work alongside thoughtful engineers, clinicians, and operators who care about clarity and good judgement Speed with intent – we move quickly but deliberately. Clear ownership, evidence-based decisions, outcomes over output Simple, elegant solutions – we have a strong bias towards code that is easy to reason about, hard to break, and built to outlast the sprint it was born in Direct access to founders – you'll have visibility into and input on the direction of the company WHAT MAKES THIS ROLE DIFFERENT This is a full-stack TypeScript role in the truest sense – you will own problems across the entire system, from UI to infrastructure. AI isn't a feature here; it's a first principle. We expect you to use agentic coding tools fluently (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor) and to be building your own views on where agentic workflows can meaningfully improve what we ship. You'll be working on systems where the stakes are real: scheduling errors affect patient care, data quality issues affect clinical decisions, and downtime has consequences. That context sharpens every technical choice you make. WHAT YOU'LL DO Design and build product features end-to-end across the Heim tech stack – owning them from first principles to production Architect and implement AI-powered workflows: scheduling optimisation, practitioner dispatch, clinical data enrichment, and agentic referral automations that reduce manual touchpoints for nurses Own the full lifecycle of features – from TypeScript frontend through to backend services, infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and testing – without relying on separate DevOps or QA teams to close the loop Build and maintain the APIs, services, and data models that underpin clinical operations – with the reliability and auditability a regulated environment demands Collaborate with our product and clinical ops teams to translate ambiguous real-world problems into working software Make pragmatic trade-offs between speed and quality, and advocate clearly when the trade-off isn't acceptable Contribute to the architecture and infrastructure decisions that will shape the platform as we scale to NHS Trusts across the UK and into new markets Leave the codebase better than you found it – improving performance, clarity, and resilience as part of everyday delivery You won't get perfectly specified tickets. You'll be trusted to think, decide, and ship. HOW WE WORK Small team, fast loops, few layers – your decisions land fast and the feedback is real We operate a hybrid team set up, and value high quality in person time so you must be able to commute to our central London office Technical judgement is respected and expected – you'll have a real voice in architectural decisions Disagreement is normal. Good ideas win, not hierarchical ones Strong bias toward execution: fewer meetings, clear ownership, and decisions grounded in evidence WHO THIS IS FOR You're a senior full-stack engineer who acts like a founder. You take responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks. You're comfortable roaming an unfamiliar part of the codebase when something needs fixing, and you'll ask sharp clarifying questions before committing to an approach. You probably have: 6+ years building and owning production software in fast-moving environments Genuine full-stack capability – you're not "mostly frontend" or "mostly backend"; you care about and can own the whole system Proven ability to own the full delivery lifecycle: frontend, backend, infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, deployment, and testing – without handing off to separate DevOps or QA teams Active, fluent use of AI coding tools – Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot – not as novelty, but as default workflow Experience making data-sensitive engineering decisions: you instinctively ask about PII classification, schema flexibility, and audit requirements before you build A track record of shipping under ambiguity – you've taken a vague ask, formed a point of view, and delivered something that worked The judgement to know when to move fast and when to slow down Bonus if you have: Experience in regulated environments (healthcare, fintech, legal) and an understanding of what "good enough" looks like when data sensitivity is high Background building agentic or multi-step AI workflows in production A side project or personal tool built with AI – something that shows you've been hands-on with Cursor, Claude Code, or AI integrations outside of work Familiarity with NHS data standards, FHIR, or community care systems Infrastructure and cloud experience (GCP or equivalent) beyond the basics Find more English Speaking Jobs in United Kingdom on Arbeitnow

Staff Software Engineer, OTA Platform
Full TimeOn-sitePrincipal
rustci/cdmachine learninggrpcprotobuflinux+9

About Us Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is a joint venture between two industry leaders with a clear vision for automotive's next chapter. From operating systems to zonal controllers to cloud and connectivity solutions, we're addressing the challenges of electric vehicles through technology that will set the standards for software-defined vehicles around the world. The road to the future is uncharted. By combining our expertise across connectivity, AI, security and more, we'll map a new way forward. Working together, we'll create a future that's more connected, more intelligent, more sustainable for everyone. Role Summary The Over-the-Air (OTA) Platform team builds the software delivery backbone for the vehicle: firmware updates, ECU configuration management, and software/hardware compatibility validation across the vehicle's compute and ECU landscape. The Germany-based OTA engineering group works in close, daily collaboration with the core OTA development team headquartered in Palo Alto, California, extending platform architecture to European vehicle programs and regional ECU suppliers, and representing site-specific requirements back into the global roadmap. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to anchor and grow our Over-the-Air (OTA) engineering capability at our Germany site. In this role, you will own architecture-level decisions for OTA features spanning firmware updates, configuration updates, and software/hardware mismatch handling, working in tight lockstep with the OTA development team in Palo Alto. You will be the senior technical voice for OTA in Germany — driving site development activities, setting technical direction, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the Germany team's contributions integrate cleanly into a single, global OTA architecture. This role is based in our Berlin office and requires a minimum of three days per week onsite, with occasional travel to other company and partner sites as needed. Responsibilities Develop OTA features and services covering firmware update delivery, ECU/software configuration updates, and software-hardware mismatch detection and remediation. Collaborate daily with the OTA development team in Palo Alto on system architecture, API contracts, and release planning; ensure Germany-site work streams stay aligned with the global OTA roadmap. Design update strategies (full-image, delta/differential, A/B partitioning) that guarantee safe, resumable, and rollback-capable updates across heterogeneous ECUs. Define and evolve the software/hardware compatibility (mismatch) framework, including version dependency graphs, pre-condition checks, and campaign eligibility rules. Drive interface and contract discussions with cloud/backend teams (campaign orchestration, telemetry ingestion, update eligibility services) to keep vehicle-side and cloud-side assumptions in sync. Work with communication protocol stacks used for in-vehicle and vehicle-to-cloud data exchange (e.g., UDS/ISO 14229, DoIP, SOME/IP, CAN/CAN-FD, Automotive Ethernet, TLS/mTLS, MQTT) to integrate OTA services with ECUs and cloud endpoints. Ensure OTA processes meet automotive security and safety expectations: secure boot, cryptographic signing/verification, key management, and compliance-oriented practices aligned with ISO/SAE 21434 and UNECE R156 (Software Update Management System). Partner with QA, functional safety, cybersecurity, and vehicle integration teams to validate updates through bench, HIL, and vehicle-level testing. Support root-cause analysis and resolution of field issues related to update failures, mismatches, or rollback scenarios. Take a leading role in architecture reviews and design decisions for the global OTA platform, representing Germany-site needs and constraints while upholding overall system coherence. Drive Germany-site development activities end-to-end: technical planning, design reviews, code quality standards, and delivery execution. Mentor and provide technical guidance to Senior and mid-level engineers on the Germany team; review designs and code for correctness, performance, and maintainability. Identify architectural risks and technical debt early; propose and lead initiatives to address them across the OTA stack. Act as a key escalation point for complex, cross-cutting technical issues spanning firmware, middleware, and cloud interfaces. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant time in embedded, systems, or automotive software. Demonstrated experience owning system or platform architecture for a production software product, ideally in automotive, IoT, or another safety- or reliability-critical domain. Track record of leading technical initiatives across multiple engineers or teams, including cross-site or cross-organization collaboration. Experience directly interfacing with a partner engineering team in a different location/time zone to align on architecture and delivery. Strong, hands-on proficiency in C++ and Rust — this is a core, non-negotiable requirement, as the majority of OTA services are implemented in these languages. Solid understanding of embedded Linux / POSIX-compliant operating environments and the constraints of resource-limited automotive compute platforms. Practical experience with in-vehicle and vehicle-to-cloud communication protocols (e.g., CAN/CAN-FD, Automotive Ethernet, SOME/IP, UDS/DoIP, TLS, MQTT, gRPC/Protobuf, or comparable). Comfortable driving technical interface discussions directly with cloud/backend engineering teams — defining APIs, data contracts, and failure-handling behavior across the vehicle-cloud boundary. Experience with version control, code review workflows, and CI/CD for embedded or systems software. Working knowledge of cryptographic concepts used in secure software delivery: digital signatures, certificate/key management, and secure boot chains. Strong debugging skills across layers — application logic, OS/driver interaction, and hardware/bus-level communication. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Fluent English (spoken and written) for daily collaboration with the Palo Alto team; German language skills are a plus for local site interactions. Willingness to travel occasionally to Palo Alto, CA (or host virtual overlap hours) to support cross-site architecture and planning. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience specifically in OTA/software update systems for vehicles or other connected embedded devices. Experience establishing or scaling a new engineering site or team within a larger, distributed organization. Exposure to Machine Learning / AI techniques applied to edge compute — e.g., anomaly detection on update telemetry, predictive mismatch detection, or on-device inference constraints. Automotive middleware development experience on POSIX-based ECUs (e.g., AUTOSAR Adaptive, Linux-based domain/zone controllers, or similar middleware frameworks). Familiarity with Yocto/embedded Linux build systems and board support packages. Experience with functional safety practices (ISO 26262) and automotive cybersecurity standards (ISO/SAE 21434). Knowledge of software bill of materials (SBOM) tooling and dependency/version management at fleet scale. Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test environments and automotive diagnostic tooling. Familiarity with containerization or virtualization on embedded targets (e.g., lightweight containers, hypervisors) for update isolation. Prior experience in a distributed/multi-site engineering organization, including asynchronous collaboration across time zones. Staff Software Engineer, Vehicle Configuration Platform
Full TimeOn-sitePrincipal
pythonrustci/cdconcretemanufacturingarchitecture+7

About Us Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is a joint venture between two industry leaders with a clear vision for automotive's next chapter. From operating systems to zonal controllers to cloud and connectivity solutions, we're addressing the challenges of electric vehicles through technology that will set the standards for software-defined vehicles around the world. The road to the future is uncharted. By combining our expertise across connectivity, AI, security and more, we'll map a new way forward. Working together, we'll create a future that's more connected, more intelligent, more sustainable for everyone. Role Summary A single firmware release must serve every vehicle variant we build across both Rivian and all Volkswagen brands. The vehicle configuration platform that the OTA team supports makes that possible: a schema-driven system that defines every configurable attribute of a vehicle and provisions them onto vehicles in the factory, in service, and over the air customer updates. Getting this wrong can mean anything from the wrong information showing on the driver display to a car that needs to be towed in for service. You will be a technical leader on the team that owns this platform, working as a peer to its lead architect. Where the architect drives the structural evolution of the configuration system itself, you will own the health, reliability, and scalability of everything around it: the compilation and code generation pipelines, the validation and release infrastructure, the provisioning path from schema to vehicle, and the developer experience of every engineer who touches configuration. You will set technical direction for this surface area, drive initiatives that span firmware, build infrastructure, release engineering, OTA, and factory integration across two companies' engineering organizations, and raise the bar for how the team designs, reviews, and ships. This role is based in our Berlin office and requires a minimum of three days per week onsite, with occasional travel to other company and partner sites as needed. Responsibilities Own the technical direction for configuration tooling, validation, and delivery infrastructure, translating platform architecture into a concrete, sequenced roadmap and driving it to completion across teams. Lead initiatives that simplify the platform: consolidating redundant mechanisms, retiring legacy pathways, and reducing the coordination cost of routine changes, while every downstream consumer keeps working. Design the compatibility strategy for data contracts deployed to devices in the field, and build the automated enforcement that makes schema evolution provably safe rather than carefully reviewed. Architect the validation and release pipeline as a product: define what classes of defects must be impossible to merge, and build the layered checks, staged rollouts, and observability that get there. Serve as the senior escalation point for production configuration issues, leading root cause analysis during launches and field events and converting each incident into systemic prevention. Drive alignment across organizational boundaries, negotiating shared contracts, review processes, and release mechanics with firmware, cloud, diagnostics, manufacturing, and partner-brand stakeholders who have differing constraints and conventions. Mentor and multiply the engineers on the team, setting standards through design review, raising the quality of technical writing and decision records, and growing the mid-level engineers toward ownership. Be accountable for the long-term maintenance cost of what the team ships. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: 8+ years of software engineering experience, including demonstrated ownership of a platform, infrastructure, or developer-facing system used by many teams. A track record of leading cross-team technical initiatives from proposal through delivery, including ones that required deprecating or migrating away from entrenched systems. Deep experience with serialization formats such as Protocol Buffers, including designing schemas with strict backward and forward compatibility guarantees for devices you cannot force-update. Strong Python and working C literacy; real depth in a modern build system such as Bazel, including writing rules and repository-level integration, not just consuming builds. Mature CI/CD and release engineering judgment: you design validation gates and rollout mechanics that encode correctness in automation, and you know which guarantees belong in tooling versus process. Sound judgment under production pressure: you can lead a time-critical fix during a vehicle launch, and you also know when to refuse a shortcut or fence one in and drive its removal afterward. Excellent written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders, including the ability to explain tradeoffs to non-software audiences and to write decision documents that hold up over time. The instinct to lead through leverage: you measure your impact by what the team and its users can do without you. Preferred Qualifications Automotive or embedded domain experience: UDS diagnostics, vehicle variant coding, factory provisioning, or OTA update systems. Rust experience. Experience operating in multi-company or partner-engineering environments with separate review and release processes. Experience with code generation toolchains such as protoc plugins or template-based generators. Familiarity with manifest-based multi-repository workflows. Total Rewards We build the exceptional — and we believe the people doing that work should be rewarded accordingly. At Kpler, we are dedicated to helping our clients navigate complex markets with ease. By simplifying global trade information and providing valuable insights, we empower organisations to make informed decisions in commodities, energy, and maritime sectors. Since our founding in 2014, we have focused on delivering top-tier intelligence through user-friendly platforms. Our team of over 850 experts from 69 countries works tirelessly to transform intricate data into actionable strategies, ensuring our clients stay ahead in a dynamic market landscape. Join us to leverage cutting-edge innovation for impactful results and experience unparalleled support on your journey to success. About the Role As a Software Engineer on the founding Connected Supply Chain team, you will build and run the core services extending Kpler's real-time trade intelligence platform beyond marine coverage into North American inland supply chains. Operating on a high-autonomy "you build it, you run it" model, you will carry sensor telemetry from field hardware to paying customers through streaming ingestion pipelines, robust APIs, and user-facing features. By uniting crude pipeline remote sensors, rail, and waterway data with existing maritime tracking, your work will directly deliver a single connected view from production basin to export terminal. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain scalable ingestion and processing pipelines for sensor, rail, and waterway data using Python, Kafka, and Airflow. Develop backend services using FastAPI and contribute to customer-facing web applications using TypeScript and Vue. Implement data validation, system monitoring, and alerting to ensure noisy time-series data from field hardware remains accurate and complete. Operate owned services end-to-end, taking charge of deployments, observability, and participation in the team's on-call rotation. Collaborate closely with data science and sensor operations teams to transform raw telemetry into high-value, usable datasets for early customer adoption. Drive continuous platform health by participating in technical design discussions, improving CI/CD workflows, and delivering tested, well-documented code. Experience & Background What you'll need (Must-haves) 2 to 4 years of professional software engineering experience building and supporting production software. Strong proficiency with Python and relational databases (SQL / Postgres). Proven experience deploying, debugging, and operating backend services in cloud environments (AWS preferred). Hands-on exposure to message queues, streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka), and RESTful API development. Strong problem-solving skills with a high degree of agency to move from ambiguous requirements to working code. Nice-to-haves Experience with FastAPI, Airflow, TypeScript, Vue, or Elasticsearch. Prior exposure to time-series, IoT, remote sensor, or geospatial datasets. Domain interest in energy, commodities, or logistics supply chains. We are a dynamic company dedicated to nurturing connections and innovating solutions to tackle market challenges head-on. If you thrive on customer satisfaction and turning ideas into reality, then you've found your ideal destination. Are you ready to embark on this exciting journey with us? We make things happen We act decisively and with purpose, going the extra mile. We build together We foster relationships and develop creative solutions to address market challenges. We are here to help We are accessible and supportive to colleagues and clients with a friendly approach. Our People Pledge Don't meet every single requirement? Kpler is committed to providing a fair, inclusive and diverse work-environment. We believe that different perspectives lead to better ideas, and better ideas allow us to better understand the needs and interests of our diverse, global community.
