This is an Atlantic portfolio venture. About the Venture We build frontier artificial intelligence that helps governments and defence organisations make sense of a fast-moving information environment. Our systems help the teams responsible for national security read a complex information environment faster and clearer than ever before. We've closed a pre-seed round and are already running live government pilots, with plans to expand across Europe and beyond. This is an early, venture-backed company doing work that carries weight. About the Role This is a founding role for our expansion across the DACH region and the Nordics. You will own how we grow here, from the first conversation through to a signed contract, building the region much as we built the UK: learning the landscape, opening doors, landing pilots and turning them into long-term contracts. You will work closely with the founders and with a forward-deployed engineer who builds the tools, integrations and prototypes that a live sales process needs, so your job is to win the room, work out what the customer actually needs, and direct that build until the deal closes. What you'll do Own go-to-market across the DACH region and the Nordics, winning and growing contracts across government, defence and large enterprise, from first conversation through to close. Map the region from a blank slate, find the advisory relationships that open doors, and build a network where we do not have one yet. Land pilots and turn them into long-term contracts, working from first engagements towards enterprise deals worth seven figures a year. Turn customer needs into scoped solutions, briefing and directing a forward-deployed engineer to stand up the reports, dashboards, integrations and prototypes that move deals forward. Build the regional playbook from first principles: pipeline, qualification, pricing and close. Make complex technology clear and convincing to senior decision-makers in government and defence. Work directly with the founders on strategy, positioning and the deals that matter most. About You You are, at heart, someone who likes to build something from nothing. You are at your best finding the first contacts, earning their trust, and turning a cold market into real relationships and real deals. You are hands-on, as comfortable doing the sourcing and outreach yourself as sitting across from a senior decision-maker on a sensitive brief, and you understand that this kind of work is slow, careful and built on trust. A real appetite for business development: you like winning deals, opening relationships and building a market from scratch, and you keep going long after an inherited network has run dry. Enough of a technical background to scope solutions, brief an engineer and hold your own with technical buyers. The drive to build a process from nothing rather than run one that already exists. Fluency in the region: strong English and at least one relevant regional language, with German a clear advantage. Comfort in an early startup, where there is real ownership, quick decisions and plenty of ambiguity. Discretion and integrity, because our work depends on a high level of trust. A background in defence, national security or another setting where you have earned trust and done deals with government is a strong advantage. Eligibility for security clearance is an advantage. Why Join This is a launching role with a whole region to own, at an early, venture-backed company that has already closed a pre-seed round and is running live pilots with government. You will work alongside the founders, with founder-level access and ownership from the start, and the market you build will be yours to shape. The work is demanding and it matters, for clients operating at a high level on problems that are genuinely difficult. For the person who builds this well, there is meaningful equity and real upside. Execute in an AI-native way: Use AI to scale coaching, practice, and reinforcement, going beyond general AI fluency. (Senior) Associate – Energy Markets & Business Development (Railway Power & PPAs) Our mission for you European energy costs are 2x compared to US and China. Electricity demand is expected to double by 2050. Market price volatility & complexity are here to stay. The backbone of Europe's industrial economy is at risk - and companies need to act now. trawa is building the solution: the first integrated B2B energy platform that orchestrates procurement, energy management, and flexibility steering in one product. Supply, Manage, Flex - combined. That integration unlocks up to 30% in recurring electricity cost savings - all while helping companies switch to renewable energy. We're the fastest-growing B2B energy platform in Europe. Active in Germany and Austria now, and expanding operations to a third market in 2027. We're on the road to European scale and move fast - the market window is open and we intend to own it. About trawa trawa is a scale-up based in Berlin with ~100 FTE, ~30 of whom work in Product & Tech. We've raised over €35M to date, including a €24M Series A in May 2025, backed by Balderton, Headline, Speedinvest, AENU, Magnetic, and Tiny VC. All three founders are on board and 100% committed to build the utility of the future. We're looking for a (Senior) Associate – Energy Markets & Business Development (Railway Power & PPAs) to own an important part of our energy value chain. You'll report directly to our Energy Operations Manager with close collaboration with the COO and Trading Team. You'll shape the product that makes European industry competitive again - and you'll do it at pace. This role is based in Berlin. trawa is an "office first" company, which means you will work from the office typically five days per week. The Team You'll join our Energy Operations team, which owns the energy side of our business - from sourcing and portfolio management to making sure our customers' energy products work in practice. You'll work hand in hand with our Trading Team as well as with Sales, Pricing, Product and Tech. You start without direct reports, but with a clear mandate: build and grow the business areas you own. What you'll do As (Senior) Associate – Energy Markets & Business Development, you combine a strong analytical mind with business building: Build our railway power business: A significant share of our customers comes from the railway power (Bahnstrom) segment. You take ownership of this segment from a trading and energy perspective - you understand its specific market setup, improve how we forecast, source, price and supply railway power, and make us the go-to partner for these customers. You dig into how we currently predict our railway customers' energy demand and find ways to make these forecasts more accurate. You also build partnerships with IT service providers from the railway industry and with infrastructure operators. Lead international railway expansion: You drive the expansion of our railway power offering into further European countries - you analyse market structures, regulation and commercial potential, and contribute your findings into a concrete go-to-market plan. Expand our long-term product offering: Our customers buy long-term products from us, such as PPAs and Future/Forwards products. You develop our offering so we can provide more and better-fitting products to our customers. Architect of the long-term trading process: You centralise and streamline the end-to-end process from pricing and offer creation to actual trade execution across Sales, Pricing, Trading and Operations - making it faster, more robust and scalable, and ultimately enabling a better product for our customers. Bridge between trading and business: You work closely with our quant trading and data science team and turn their models and insights into processes and systems that work across teams and markets - so that pricing, risk and market insights reliably translate into better decisions and products for our customers. Who we are looking for Strong quantitative skills: You think analytically, feel at home with numbers and data and can confidently challenge quantitative results - without having to be a quant or developer yourself. Ideally, you have a degree in a quantitative or business field (e.g. economics, engineering, industrial engineering, business administration). Business acumen & venture mindset: You think commercially, enjoy building new business areas from scratch and prioritise by impact. Interest in energy markets & trading: You are fascinated by how energy markets work - from wholesale and forward markets to PPAs, hedging and pricing - and want to dive deep into them. First exposure to these topics is a strong plus. Hungry & ambitious: You want to grow fast, take on responsibility early and set high standards for yourself. You don't wait for instructions - you find answers, push topics forward and enjoy a steep learning curve. High ownership & structured execution: You drive topics end-to-end, align stakeholders across departments and turn ideas into scalable processes with tangible business impact. Communication: You speak German at native level and very good English, and you translate confidently between commercial, quantitative and operational perspectives. 90 Day Goals After 6 Weeks (Onboarding): You have understood trawa's business, product and energy value chain in detail and got to know all relevant internal and external stakeholders. You understand our railway power customers, their contracts, how we currently forecast their energy demand and how we source, price and supply their energy. You have mapped our current long-term trading process - from pricing and offer creation to trade execution - and identified the key pain points. Month 3 (Ramp-Up): You are the go-to person for trading and energy questions in the railway power segment, have implemented first improvements and developed a concept for improving our demand forecasts for railway customers. You have delivered a first assessment of potential expansion markets for railway power, including a recommendation on which country to tackle first, and have identified and approached first potential partners among railway IT service providers and infrastructure operators. You have designed a target process for our long-term trading, started its implementation and proposed first additions to our long-term product offering. What Will Help You Succeed Work experience in a high-paced environment, e.g. a start-up, scale-up or consulting. Experience in energy markets - especially in energy trading, origination or pricing - or in financial trading markets. Knowledge of the German energy market and/or the railway power (16.7 Hz traction power) market. An affinity for AI-powered tools and automation to make processes faster and smarter. Why us? Impact: European SMEs spend between €150k and €10M per year on electricity — most are overpaying and locked into outdated procurement. Your product will directly change how thousands of companies buy, manage, and use energy. The impact is measurable, the market is massive, and the timing is now. The Role: You build business areas at the intersection of trading, energy and venture development - with direct impact on our revenue, our product offering and our expansion across Europe. Responsibility & Support: You own real business areas from day one - backed by our Energy Operations Manager, the COO and an experienced Trading Team who help you ramp up quickly and grow into the role. Ownership: We empower our team members to take ownership of their work and drive results, regardless of background or experience level. Learning & Growth: We provide an annual budget and dedicated time for professional development. You'll have opportunities for mentorship, learning, and career progression. Diversity and Inclusion: We're an equal opportunity employer, and our team reflects that. Our organisation brings together over 15 nationalities, contributing a variety of languages, experiences, and perspectives. At trawa, we're family-friendly with parents across all levels, and our diversity is represented throughout the company, including leadership. We're committed to an inclusive environment where everyone can do their best work. Package & Benefits: We offer a competitive compensation package including salary and stock options, 30 days of vacation, and a range of benefits including subsidies for home internet and lunches, a Sports Club membership, dedicated learning days with an annual learning budget, plus a weekly team lunch and regular team events. At trawa, we're dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. If you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly, we encourage you to apply - you may be the right fit for this or another opportunity. We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,300 people across 27 offices. Read our operating principles to see it in full. About the team The Credit Risk team is part of Airwallex's Second Line of Defence and helps the company grow responsibly as a global financial platform. We work at the intersection of credit, FX, and counterparty risk, partnering closely with Product, Sales, Operations, Treasury, Finance, Engineering, Compliance, and Legal to enable commercial growth while protecting Airwallex from financial loss and excessive risk exposure. This is a team for analytical, commercially minded risk leaders who are energized by building scalable frameworks and practical controls across a fast-moving, multi-currency global network. What you'll do As a Senior Manager, Credit Risk, you will lead Airwallex's global second-line oversight of credit, FX, and counterparty risk. You will set the risk guardrails that allow the business to grow safely across merchant acquiring, charge cards, FX, treasury, settlement, and banking-partner activities. Reporting to the Senior Director, Financial Risk, you will own the global framework, risk appetite, limits, governance, and portfolio oversight for these risk areas. You will provide independent challenge to first-line decisions and act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across the business. This role is based in London. Responsibilities Credit risk framework and risk appetite: Define, implement, and continuously enhance the global second-line credit risk framework, including policies, risk appetite thresholds, limits, escalation protocols, and governance standards across Airwallex's products and legal entities. Credit portfolio oversight: Oversee credit exposures across merchant acquiring, charge cards, B2B and commercial activities, FX pre-funding, treasury-related exposures, settlement flows, and other relevant products. Underwriting and limit governance: Review and challenge first-line underwriting strategies, customer and merchant risk policies, credit assessments, limit-setting methodologies, and exception processes. Act as a senior escalation point for complex or high-value credit decisions. FX risk oversight: Establish and monitor appropriate second-line guardrails for FX exposures arising from pre-funding, settlement, customer activity, treasury flows, and other multi-currency activities. Challenge controls, limits, escalation triggers, and risk reporting to ensure exposures remain within approved tolerances. Counterparty risk management: Set and oversee counterparty risk standards for banking partners, payment partners, merchants, customers, and other material counterparties. Establish appropriate exposure limits, concentration thresholds, monitoring requirements, and escalation processes. Portfolio monitoring and early warning indicators: Lead proactive monitoring of credit, FX, and counterparty portfolios, including exposure, concentration, delinquency, default, chargeback, loss, settlement, liquidity-of-counterparty, and other relevant risk indicators. Identify emerging trends and escalate material issues before they become systemic. Loss mitigation and remediation: Review and challenge first-line monitoring, collections, collateral, prefunding, reserves, chargeback, and other mitigation strategies. Ensure deteriorating counterparties, customers, merchants, or exposures are identified and addressed promptly. New products and market expansion: Partner with Product, Engineering, Commercial, Treasury, Finance, and Operations to assess and challenge the risk design of new products, features, markets, currencies, and partner arrangements before launch. Risk approvals and governance: Lead or support risk committee decisions, material risk approvals, limit exceptions, breach assessments, and remediation plans. Ensure decisions are documented clearly and aligned with approved risk appetite. Regulatory and partner engagement: Represent Credit Risk during regulatory examinations, internal and external audits, and reviews with banking and strategic partners. Prepare clear, decision-useful materials for senior management, risk committees, and the Board where appropriate. Who you are We're looking for people who meet the minimum requirements for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory. Minimum qualifications 10–15 years of progressively senior experience across credit risk, counterparty risk, FX risk, treasury risk, or related financial risk disciplines within banking, payments, fintech, or another highly regulated financial services environment. Deep experience designing, implementing, and governing second-line credit risk frameworks in a complex, multi-jurisdictional organization. Strong understanding of credit risk identification, measurement, underwriting, limit management, monitoring, mitigation, provisioning, loss recognition, and capital implications. Demonstrated experience managing risk across multiple product lines, such as merchant acquiring, commercial or charge cards, B2B lending, payment processing, FX, treasury, settlement, or banking-partner activities. Practical experience overseeing FX and counterparty risk, including exposure measurement, concentration risk, limits, settlement risk, prefunding, collateral or other mitigants, and escalation governance. Proven ability to challenge first-line decisions and communicate clear risk positions to senior executives, commercial leaders, product and operations teams, banking partners, auditors, and regulators. Preferred qualifications Advanced degree such as an MBA or Master's in Finance, Economics, Risk Management, or a related field. Professional certification such as FRM, PRM, CFA, or an equivalent qualification. Experience with automated decisioning engines, credit scoring models, portfolio analytics, or alternative data used in underwriting and monitoring. Familiarity with IFRS 9, expected credit loss methodologies, stress testing, or other relevant prudential and accounting frameworks. Strong data literacy and familiarity with SQL, Python, or similar tools used to analyze portfolio, exposure, and loss trends. Experience working in a regulated payments fintech, digital bank, or financial institution with multiple licenses and banking partnerships. Comfort operating in a high-growth environment with evolving priorities and a bias for practical, scalable execution.
