About the role The Safety Firmware Team builds the next generation of intelligent video and AI-driven safety solutions, bringing high-performance camera systems and real-time edge computing into Samsara's fleet and industrial products. We deliver low-latency, high-quality video processing, voice powered AI Agents and advanced computer vision models at the edge, and we ship them as complete products that run from the device to the cloud. This role is for a hands-on technical leader who goes deep on firmware but is just as comfortable across the full stack: embedded systems, Go backend services, and web and mobile surfaces. You are AI-native in how you work, you move fast, and you own outcomes end-to-end. You think like a product and systems owner, you move easily across teams, and you want to shape Samsara's edge AI strategy, mentor engineers, and ship work that makes a real difference. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US and Canada. You should apply if: You want to impact the industries that run our world: The software, firmware, and hardware you build will help keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and, most importantly, ensure workers return home safely. You want to build for scale: With over 2.3 million IoT devices deployed to customers worldwide, you'll work across new and mature technologies, from the device to the cloud, that drive innovation for the world's physical operations. You want to own the whole outcome: You take a vague customer problem all the way to a shipped, measured feature, and you don't wait for a spec or a hand-off to get there. You are a life-long learner: We have ambitious goals, and every Samsarian has a growth mindset as we work with a wide range of technologies, challenges, and customers that push us to learn on the go. You believe customers are more than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user. You'll join customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to make sure our work translates into better customer outcomes. You are a team player: Our engineering teams blend independent effort with close collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we're all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win, together. In this role, you will: Own outcomes end-to-end, from a vague customer problem to a shipped, measured feature, across the full stack: firmware, Go backend services, and web and mobile surfaces Drive technology choices, implement embedded and firmware solutions, and establish architectural patterns with a broad and lasting impact on Samsara's products, from the device to the cloud Leverage voice as the new interface, powering AI Agents as well as humans communicating. Design for the whole system: device constraints, connectivity, cloud services, and fleet-scale rollout Identify opportunities and start strategic conversations that influence the direction of our technology and engineering culture Ensure the accuracy of the AI algorithms we run at the edge, and that they operate within device constraints Build with AI agents by default, and raise the AI fluency of the engineers around you Partner closely with the Hardware team to define and build next-generation devices that support company objectives, and work just as fluently with Backend, Web, Mobile, Product, and Customer Success teams Lead teams in delivering products and capabilities that contribute to Samsara's products and revenue Solve the hardest technical problems and help products reach the market quickly, with high quality Act as a multiplier for the team, raising the impact and output of every team member Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices Minimum requirements for the role: 10+ years of experience designing, developing, and deploying software, with deep expertise in embedded systems and firmware, including at least 2 years in a technical leadership or architecture role Deep expertise in at least one embedded domain (for example multimedia, connectivity, drivers and kernel, power, or real-time systems) Has shipped across the stack: firmware, Go backend services, and web or mobile surfaces, not just embedded Strong programming skills in C/C++, Go, Python, or similar Product and systems thinking: has shipped products, not just components; ties technical decisions to customer outcomes; and reasons about the whole system, including device constraints, connectivity, cloud, and fleet-scale rollout High agency and execution speed: owns outcomes end-to-end, from a vague customer problem to a shipped, measured feature, without waiting for a spec or hand-off Already uses AI tools in day-to-day engineering work, builds with AI agents by default, can speak concretely to what share of their code is AI-generated, and raises the AI fluency of the team around them Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver complex, high-impact projects with multiple dependencies Strong communication and collaboration skills, equally credible in a kernel driver review and a backend design review, with the ability to move across teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders A track record of building systems that do more with less hardware, and comfort operating under scarce compute, data, or hardware budgets, in any industry An ideal candidate also has: Expertise in multimedia frameworks, video codecs, and camera systems Played a prominent role in shaping the engineering culture of a rapidly scaling, large, global engineering team Expertise in developing and managing software for large-scale embedded systems deployed on 1M+ devices Experience deploying CV/ML models on edge devices in real-world applications Background in another scarce-resource industry (robotics, drones, consumer electronics, automotive). Principal Technical Program Manager
Full TimeHybridPrincipal$195,000 - $195,000 / Year

Our Mission You call. You wait. You call again. In every other part of your life, you book in seconds. In healthcare, you're blocked.   We're here to give power to the patient.  For nearly 20 years, we've built the leading healthcare marketplace - helping tens of millions of people find and book the care they need. Now, we're going further: building our infrastructure beyond Zocdoc's marketplace to power access to care wherever patients search, from provider websites and insurance directories to search engines, AI platforms, and more. Healthcare still lacks something every other major consumer industry takes for granted: a seamless way to go from seeking to getting . We don't want to own the front door to care; there isn't one. We want to make sure all of those doors open when patients are knocking. Fixing healthcare starts with fixing access to it. And we're still just getting started.   Your Impact to the Mission Zocdoc's most important asset is our people. As a Principal Technical Program Manager for Practice Solutions, you will own and drive the most complex, cross-functional technical programs across the business unit, the initiatives that span multiple engineering teams and product domains and that no single team can deliver alone. Practice Solutions powers how healthcare practices run their day to day across every patient access channel: phone, web, marketplace, and partner syndication. That includes Zo, our AI phone assistant, along with our provider directory and booking platform, intake and pre-appointment workflows, calendar and scheduling experiences, and the services that keep availability accurate across channels. You'll operate at the intersection of Engineering, Product, Design, Analytics, and go-to-market leadership to deliver scalable, highly available, multi-tenant SaaS capabilities. You'll bring structure to ambiguity, drive sequencing across teams, surface architectural and operational risk early, and keep the trains running on time, all while raising the bar for how program execution happens across the entire business unit. This is a highly visible role with significant autonomy and influence.   You'll enjoy this role if you are… Inspired by the opportunity to positively impact the healthcare experience for millions of patients and providers A platform thinker who instinctively looks beyond individual features to understand how systems connect, scale, and evolve over time Energized by building structure in ambiguous, high-complexity environments where multiple teams, products, and priorities intersect Comfortable operating at both 30,000 feet and in the architectural details, able to reason about distributed systems, reliability tradeoffs, and multi-tenant SaaS constraints Unafraid to drive movement and accountability at every level of the organization, regardless of title or tenure Calm and decisive in high-stakes situations, especially when sequencing work across teams with shared platform dependencies A strong influencer who can align engineering leaders, product leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders around shared outcomes even when ownership boundaries are unclear A believer that diverse and inclusive teams and cultures are non-negotiable   Your day to day is… Organizing and driving the business unit's planning cadence, coordinating inputs and stakeholders across engineering and product and keeping the cycle on track so strategy turns into a clear, committed, sequenced roadmap Leading large, multi-quarter platform initiatives that span the Practice Solutions product scope, keeping each part on schedule and the whole program moving Translating high-level business and product goals into structured program plans with clear sequencing, milestones, dependencies, and measurable outcomes Building the reporting and transparency that give leadership a clear, honest view of status, dependencies, and risk Partnering closely with senior engineering leaders to anticipate architectural and operational risks before they surface in production Digging into technical issues at the seams between teams, triaging, framing the problem clearly, and pulling the right architects and engineers together to solve it Surfacing tradeoffs between speed, scope, reliability, and technical debt, and facilitating clear, well-reasoned decisions at the right level Clarifying ownership boundaries and reducing cross-team friction where systems, incentives, or customer journeys overlap Establishing and refining lightweight mechanisms that improve transparency, accountability, and long-term platform health Communicating program status, risks, and key decisions clearly to executive stakeholders and business unit leadership   You'll be successful in this role if you have… A strong bias to action and an ownership mentality 8+ years in Technical Program Management, Engineering Program Management, or a similar technical leadership role A track record delivering large-scale, cross-functional initiatives in a product-led SaaS environment A strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud architectures (AWS or equivalent), and event-driven systems Demonstrated ability to reason about architectural tradeoffs without owning implementation, and enough technical depth to hold your own in a room full of senior engineers Experience driving programs that span multiple engineering teams with shared platform dependencies The confidence to drive accountability and momentum across all levels of an organization without relying on formal authority Excellent communication skills, including clear written status and risk framing for both engineers and executives A Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems) or equivalent practical experience Experience in healthcare or another regulated, multi-tenant domain is a plus Humility. You believe in treating all people with dignity and respect, regardless of title or tenure, and you approach tough conversations with empathy     Benefits: Flexible, hybrid work environment at our convenient Soho location Unlimited Vacation 100% paid employee health benefit options (including medical, dental, and vision) Commuter Benefits 401(k) with employer funded match Corporate wellness program with Wellhub Sabbatical leave (for employees with 5+ years of service) Competitive paid parental leave and fertility/family planning reimbursement Cell phone reimbursement Catered lunch everyday along with beverages and snacks Employee Resource Groups and ZocClubs to promote shared community and belonging       Zocdoc is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Salary ranges are determined through alignment with market data. Base salary offered is determined by a number of factors including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills. Certain positions are also eligible for variable pay and/or equity; your recruiter will discuss the full compensation package details. NYC Base Salary Range $195,000 — $250,000 USD About us Zocdoc is the country's leading digital health marketplace that helps patients easily find and book the care they need. Each month, millions of patients use our free service to find nearby, in-network providers, compare choices based on verified patient reviews, and instantly book in-person or video visits online. Providers participate in Zocdoc's Marketplace to reach new patients to grow their practice, fill their last-minute openings, and deliver a better healthcare experience. Founded in 2007 with a mission to give power to the patient, our work each day in pursuit of that mission is guided by our six core values . Zocdoc is a private company backed by some of the world's leading investors, and we believe we're still only scratching the surface of what we plan to accomplish.  Zocdoc is a mission-driven organization dedicated to building teams as diverse as the patients and providers we aim to serve.
