Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way. The Community you will join Airbnb's Data Authoring Platform exists to turn raw data into decision-grade insight, fast, reliable, and at scale. We provide a single, paved path for 4,000+ internal data producers and consumers to model, transform, and serve trustworthy data and metrics that power everything from A/B experimentation to executive dashboards. What we own: Minerva, Airbnb's semantic layer & metrics platform , ensuring one definition of truth across the company. The end-to-end data-authoring framework that cuts through pipeline boilerplate and accelerates iteration, pipeline testing, and validation. Tooling for reliability, governance, and cost-efficiency, including automated testing, anomaly detection, and right-sized materialization. The difference you will make As a Staff Software Engineer focused on Minerva, you will own and drive high-impact workstreams end to end. You'll take ambiguous problem spaces, such as making experimentation faster and easier, talk to users, define the work, and deliver it. Your work will help thousands of internal users define, understand, and consume trustworthy business metrics across product, finance, BI, and experimentation. Engineers, designers, and product leaders rely on these tools to explore and develop new product experiences and to run experiments that tell them what is right for our customers. Depending on your background, you may partner closely with the experimentation team to find gaps and shape how Minerva serves them. We believe data is the voice of our customers at scale. The tools you build will help improve the Airbnb product for every guest and host. A typical day Build and extend Minerva's core services, including our query rewriting service. Take on loosely defined problems, partner with users and teams to scope them, and propose and deliver solutions. Track semantic layer techniques and database engine capabilities to inform priorities. Partner with teams across the company to make data easier to query and use. Own design, implementation, testing, and on-call for the systems you build. Your expertise 9+ years of hands-on software engineering, with the majority of your time spent building and deploying production applications and services (rather than writing configuration and SQL). Deep proficiency in at least one modern general-purpose language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Scala, Go, Python, TypeScript). Experience working on data platforms or data tooling, with a good understanding of why users want to do what they do with data. Prior data engineering or data science experience is a plus, but software engineering should be your primary focus. Demonstrated ability to independently scope and drive ambiguous, cross-team projects from design through launch. Strong command of OOP, API design, and distributed systems patterns. Strong communication skills and experience working across complex team and system interfaces. Nice to haves Experience with experimentation platforms (assignment, metrics, analysis, or experiment tooling). Experience with metrics, semantic layer, BI, or analytics platforms (e.g., dbt, Tableau, Superset). Experience with query engines, query rewriting/optimization, or data warehouse internals. Experience authoring DSLs, compilers, or APIs that abstract data transformations. Your Location: This position is US - Remote Eligible. About Us Hawk is the leading provider of AI-supported anti-money laundering and fraud detection technology. Banks and payment providers globally are using Hawk's powerful combination of traditional rules and explainable AI to improve the effectiveness of their AML compliance and fraud prevention by identifying more crime while maximizing efficiency by reducing false positives. With our solution, we are playing a vital role in the global fight against Money Laundering, Fraud, or the financing of terrorism. We offer a culture of mutual trust, support and passion – while providing individuals with opportunities to grow professionally and make a difference in the world. Your Mission As an Implementation Specialist at Hawk, your responsibility is to transform customer requirements into a functioning solution that helps them achieve their business objectives around transaction monitoring, customer screening and fraud detection, alongside cutting-edge AI technologies. This includes translating policies, regulatory obligations and risk factors into Hawk's setup, data mapping, workflow configuration, UAT support and ensuring that key project timelines and milestones are met. You support our customers in realising true value by detecting more financial crime, allowing investigators to focus on what matters instead of drowning in false positives, and adopting state-of-the-art AI technologies. Key Responsibilities Requirements and needs assessment: gather and analyse the customer's AML, fraud and screening requirements and advise on best-practice configuration. Configuration: translate policies, screening algorithms, regulatory requirements and risk factors into Hawk's setup, covering rules, screening, customer risk rating and workflows. Data mapping and integration: lead the technical deployment and integration with the customer's systems, via API or batch mechanisms. Testing and go-live: support the customer through testing, UAT and sign-off, troubleshoot issues, and support a successful transition to a production environment. Training and enablement: deliver training to the customer's teams from a functional as well as technical standpoint. Project management: plan and run the implementation from signature to go-live on time and within scope, with documentation and regular stakeholder updates, combining hands-on work with project leadership. Manage each implementation task and the implementation success as an outcome you own, as directed by our Customer Value Partner, resulting in activity completion and a go-live on the dates you committed to. Your Profile 6+ years in implementation consulting or solution consulting, with at least 3 of those years hands-on implementing AML, fraud or screening solutions. Subject matter expertise in AML and compliance. You are familiar with key typologies and patterns, the regulatory expectations behind them, and how monitoring programmes as well as AI get examined. You can confidently stand in front of an MLRO and discuss and defend a rule set. This is a must-have, not a nice-to-have. Hands-on data skills: SQL, APIs, CSV and JSON, and data modelling. You're familiar with standardised payment message formats, including SWIFT MT and ISO 20022, SEPA and card data. Integration literacy. You don't write production code, but you're at home with APIs, JSON payloads, SFTP configurations as well as SSO. Proven track record of taking complex implementations to go-live on time, ideally several in parallel, with banking customers or other financial institutions. Stakeholder alignment. You ensure that internal and external parties both have the information they need, keep them aligned and manage expectations. Able to explain complexity simply. Imagine data models for compliance leads, fraud typologies for data engineers. You do it clearly in writing and in the room, in fluent English. A degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, finance or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Bonus Business-fluent German, for working with our DACH customers. CAMS (or equivalent) certification, or time spent in a second-line compliance or MLRO team. Builds constructive relationships with customers and stays calm and under pressure Builder mentality: works independently and brings structure to ambiguity where no established process exists, taking the initiative to define one. Is a resourceful problem-solver who investigates unknowns and tests system behaviour. Knows when and whom to escalate. Manages expectations proactively. Flags timeline and scope risks early, quantifies them, offers phased options and aligns Sales and Customer Success. Handles product gaps transparently. Clarifies the underlying (regulatory) requirement, offers workarounds with their trade-offs, feeds back to Product and doesn't commit to unconfirmed dates . You use AI tools such as Claude in your daily workflow to speed up mapping, documentation and analysis, and you have opinions about where they help and where they don't. IN SHORT Are you a versatile problem-solver who wants to write software that impacts the physical world? As a Full Stack Software Engineer (100%) in Zurich, you will be at the core of our operations, building systems that touch everything from warehouse automation to customer-facing smart fridges. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES Take ownership of warehouse and supplier web apps used daily for inbound processing, picking, labeling, and inventory. Develop and maintain our internal back-office tool, including the backend and GraphQL API that runs menus, deliveries, inventory, and customer sites. Manage the service connecting automated picking lanes to the rest of the system to ensure uninterrupted warehouse operations. Maintain and update the Point of Sale Android app running on hundreds of fridges, managing the release process for the entire fleet. Integrate and support payment systems (Card, TWINT), our ERP, and other partner integrations. Participate in the on-call rotation to debug live issues directly alongside the operations team. Visit the warehouse on-site to test changes and gather feedback from the people actually using the software. Translate vague problems from non-technical colleagues into shipped solutions without needing them broken down first. Own production deployments, managing logs, alerts, and careful rollouts with clear rollback plans. Break down larger features, review other engineers' pull requests, and proactively maintain system health through upgrades, testing, and cleanup. YOUR PROFILE Proven production experience in at least one typed backend language (such as C#, Java, Kotlin, Go, or TypeScript) and one modern frontend framework. Track record of successfully owning software in production, including on-call duties, debugging from logs, and resolving live issues while users wait. Familiarity with or willingness to dive into C#, TypeScript, Android, and Kotlin. Prior exposure to hardware, IoT, edge devices, payments, logistics, retail operations, or Odoo environments is highly advantageous. Demonstrated ability to dive into unfamiliar tech stacks, learn quickly, and ship reliable code. Strong passion for collaborating directly with end-users, including warehouse and operations staff, rather than exclusively with other engineers. High degree of curiosity and a proactive mindset to take full ownership of problems from end to end. Fluent English communication skills (written and spoken); knowledge of German or French is a plus. Senior Software Engineer
LetlyLondon, Germany14 days ago
Full TimeOn-siteSenior$70,000 - $70,000 / Year
pythontypescriptjavagorubykotlin+20

About Letly Letly is the AI-Native operating company built for the home. We believe the home should be autonomously run and we're building the software that will run all rental properties end-to-end. The backend at Letly is technically difficult on purpose as the operational realities of handling property and money are messy. But the foundations are already there: 10+ backend and AI services, a monorepo on the frontend, GitOps and Kubernetes on the infra side. You'd be building on solid ground rather than firefighting a fragile prototype — with a lot still to build. We've raised a $4m pre-seed and are a small, high-agency, engineering-oriented team, growing revenue at >100% month-over-month. We're hiring to facilitate this aggressive growth. Our stack Backend — a microservice architecture in NestJS and TypeScript, with Python and FastAPI for the AI agent services. Data — MongoDB Atlas and Redis. Event-driven — services coordinate over Pub/Sub rather than calling each other directly. Infra — Kubernetes on GCP (GKE), deployed via ArgoCD. Frontend — Angular in an Nx monorepo. How we build Small, well-factored services with clear boundaries. Tests are written alongside the code, not after it — they're what lets us move quickly without breaking things that handle money. Trunk-based CI/CD: you ship to production and own it, with observability and clean rollbacks. Lean frameworks, readable code. We work on a wide spectrum of technical challenges from money movement to operational logistics (scheduling, bookings, access) mediated over event-driven systems, to building around AI agents in production that are capable of executing autonomously under the hood. What we're looking for You've built and operated production backend systems that real users depended on. We care about the scope you've owned and how you owned it. First Class or high 2:1 (or international equivalent) in Computer Science or a relevant technical field. Fluency in at least one backend language and framework. You don't need to arrive fluent in our stack: we hire engineers who've built production systems with any robust framework — NestJS/TypeScript, Java/Spring Boot, Go, Kotlin, C#/.NET or Ruby on Rails — and can ramp into TypeScript fast. System design: where a service boundary belongs, what a design trades away, how services coordinate — events, queues, retries that are safe to repeat — and how it holds up once it's live. Fundamentals: concurrency, HTTP and API design, auth, data modelling and transactions (document or relational), changing a live schema safely, and what happens when a call fails. Tests: you treat tests as part of shipping, you work comfortably in a shared trunk, and you can quickly understand a large codebase you didn't write. You use AI heavily and still know exactly what you shipped. Generated code has the same quality bar as what you wrote by hand: you can explain every line, you've thought about the constraints it has to bear, and you don't merge anything you couldn't have written yourself. How you work Hyper-focus on detail. These systems move money and manage assets; we have low tolerance for "mostly right". First-principles reasoning. You take a hard problem apart rather than reaching for the nearest familiar pattern. Communication clarity. You can explain a complex trade-off to another engineer, and to someone who doesn't write software — because here you'll have to do both. Ownership mentality. You own the outcome, not the ticket: start to production, without being chased. Collaborative. Teams change the world, not individuals. You make the next engineer better and faster. Adaptability. You do well in a fast-moving environment where requirements shift under you. Learning velocity. You pick up new paradigms quickly and don't need long to get productive in unfamiliar territory. Quality-obsessed. Not just the code — the tests, the docs, the handover, the thing you leave behind. Our process We aim to complete end-to-end in under a week. Screening — 30 minutes with the CEO Skills — 45 minutes with the CEO & CTO Problem solving — 60 minutes with the CTO Slope — 45 minutes with the CEO Offer — references and a decision in days Benefits On top of base salary, equity and annual bonus, you're also entitled to: Private health insurance Paid gym membership Three meals a day , in office Ubers home on late nights Compensation: £70K – £140K • Multiple Ranges Mid • £70K – £100K Senior • £90K – £140K Find more English Speaking Jobs in United Kingdom on Arbeitnow
