Senior Incident and Escalations Manager
InternshipHybridSenior
pythonjavascriptdatadogcase managementarchitectureinstagram+2

The Incident and Escalation Management team (IEM) is part of Datadog's Global Support Engineering (GSE) organization. IEM exists to continuously improve Datadog's overall customer experience during incidents and other critical moments. We're looking for experts with a background in incident management and escalation handling to provide fast incident response, clear ownership, and calm, confident communication for our global customer base. In this individual contributor role, you will play a key part in customer communication, technical engagement, and incident management for our global customers. You will also implement processes and automations, use the same incident and case management tools we build for our customers, and help shape how they evolve. At Datadog, we place value in our office culture — the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them. What you'll do: Lead the response to our most complex, ambiguous, and high-impact incidents and escalations from start to finish. Set the response strategy, drive cross-functional coordination, and maintain clear ownership through resolution. Navigate competing priorities across multiple critical customer situations, independently assessing business and technical impact and determining the appropriate response and escalation strategy. Represent IEM to regional Support, Sales, and Engineering leadership, building the standing and relationships that let you drive a response when a situation moves faster than process allows. Lead communications during highly sensitive, public, or large-scale incidents, adapting communication strategies for customers, internal leadership, and other stakeholders. Act as a trusted incident and escalation partner across Support, Engineering, Product, and other teams, influencing decisions and driving alignment when ownership or the path to resolution is unclear. Lead high-impact, cross-functional projects that improve how Datadog manages incidents and escalations at scale, identifying systemic gaps and translating them into sustainable operational improvements. Establish and evolve incident and escalation best practices, documentation, runbooks, and training, raising the quality and consistency of response across the organization. Mentor and develop other IEMs or GSEs members, provide guidance during complex situations, contribute to interviewing and hiring, and help raise the operational bar for the team. Design and champion proactive monitoring and detection strategies that surface customer-impacting risks earlier and enable teams to act before issues escalate. Identify systemic patterns across incidents, escalations, customer infrastructure, and product behavior, and influence Engineering and Product partners to address root causes and reduce recurrence. Who you are: 8+ years of related professional experience, including at least 4 years of experience in incident management and customer escalations, with demonstrable ownership of major, high-impact incidents and business-critical customer escalations in SaaS, cloud, observability, or similarly complex software environments Significant experience in a hands-on technical role at a software or cloud company, such as Support Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, Solutions Architecture, or a similar technical function Strong understanding of cloud computing, distributed systems, and modern software architectures, with the ability to reason across multiple technical domains and system dependencies; scripting ability in Python, JavaScript, or shell is a plus Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity during high-pressure, high-visibility situations, evaluate complex technical and business factors, and determine an effective incident or escalation strategy Experience operating as the sole or most senior incident responder in a region or timezone — making consequential decisions without an in-hours escalation path, and working effectively with customers and internal teams across different cultures and working norms. Experience identifying systemic patterns across incidents or escalations and translating them into operational, process, or technical improvements that reduce recurrence Proven experience driving complex, cross-functional projects from conception through delivery and influencing improvements beyond your immediate area of ownership Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, with the judgment to communicate effectively with technical teams, customers, and senior stakeholders during sensitive situations Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science/Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the below qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you're passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply. Benefits and Growth: Generous and competitive US benefits New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan Continuous career development and pathing opportunities  Product training to develop an in-depth understanding of our product and space Best in breed onboarding Internal mentor and buddy program cross-departmentally Friendly and inclusive workplace culture Benefits and Growth listed above may vary based on the country of your employment and the nature of your employment with Datadog. #LI-Hybrid About Datadog:  Datadog is the leading observability and security platform for the AI era, providing businesses with unified visibility across the technology stack to manage complexity at scale. Product Psychologist
SlingshotaiLondon, Germany14 days ago
Full TimeOn-siteMid$80,000 - $80,000 / Year
rmachine learningclinicalmental healthcounselingresearch+1

Slingshot AI Slingshot AI is the team behind Ash, the first AI designed for mental health. Our mission is to make support more accessible and help people change their lives in the ways they want. We're building a world-class team by empowering individuals with the autonomy, flexibility, and support they need to do their best work. We dream big, iterate fast, and care deeply. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you. Our team spans machine learning, product, engineering, conversational design, clinical, growth, and operations, with offices in both New York City and London. We're a well-funded Series A company, having raised $93M from Andreessen Horowitz, Radical Ventures, Forerunner Ventures, plus top-tier tech investors involved in ElevenLabs, Captions, Shopify, Plaid, Notion, Canva, Twitch, Airtable, and many others. The Role We are hiring a Product Psychologist to sit inside our machine learning team to elaborate on and help further build processes that answer: what does a great Ash conversation look like, and how do you measure it? Reporting to our Clinical R&D Lead and partnering closely our ML conversation team lead, you'll own the definition of quality for Ash's conversations and turn it into something the ML team can train and evaluate against through benchmarks, evals, and a distributed team of expert human reviewers. We think optimizing for clinical protocols is the wrong lever. We believe the core driver of outcomes in mental health support, AI or human, is more amorphous: the things that set individual practitioners, rather than individual practices, apart. This role exists to build a science of that belief into something iterable. This is not a role about designing conversations turn-by-turn. Ash is more grown than built. It's not a management role, though you'll coach a growing team of reviewers. And it's not a research role in the traditional sense. While you'll draw heavily on the literature, your aim is product outcomes, not papers published (though some of your work may become a paper in collaboration with our research team). Key responsibilities Own the definition of "great" for Ash conversations, and make it measurable. Make hypothesis-driven calls on how Ash should behave, globally and in specific situations. Change your mind quickly and openly when the evidence tells you to. Partner with the Safety team to define Ash's constraints and how it should handle difficult edge-case conversations. Recruit, scale, and coach a distributed team of human reviewers: set the bar, teach people what "great" looks like, and keep the group calibrated with each other. Be a source of clarity for the conversation and ML teams when the path forward is ambiguous. About you You have a PhD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, or related field, or a license-eligible Masters degree with clinical training and supervision You're an experienced clinician with a history of working with systems, technological and otherwise, to scale up engaging and effective health products You have deep, hands-on experience with interpersonal skills. You can personally facilitate emotional expression well, and you can also see it in someone else's work: flexibility, warmth, honesty, confidence, and attunement, not just credentials. You're pragmatic and decisive under real uncertainty. You can make a call with incomplete information, defend it, and drop it fast when new evidence shows up. You're oriented toward the user, not toward an external clinical ideal. You won't push an agenda that matters more to you than it does to the people using the product. You've worked on measurement before, ideally in digital mental health, and you know how to build a rating system and keep a team of raters calibrated. You have some comfort operating close to an ML team. You don't need to train the models, but you should be curious about how evals and benchmarks actually get used to change model behavior.
