At Gigaton, we're on a mission to cut gigatonnes of carbon emissions from the world's biggest emitting industries (like cement, steel and glass), by building autonomous AI control and optimisation systems that learn and leverage the physics of manufacturing. Our products run heavy industrial plants more efficiently, more stably, and with lower emissions in real time - laying the foundation for the next industrial revolution. We are a team of scientists, engineers, builders, and operators who love hard problems, have high standards, and want to make change happen in the physical world. We care about deep tech, but we care even more about whether it delivers cost and carbon impact in a live plant, with real people, under real constraints. With Gigaton, you'll solve really tough problems in places few people ever get close to, and build something that actually helps the planet. Are you up for the challenge? About the role We are looking for a sales engineer to join our sales team and drive the frontline of industrial decarbonisation. This role bridges the technical and commercial worlds. You'll need interpersonal and technical skills to build relationships with process engineers in cement plants and understand their challenges. Analytical skills will be essential to delve deep into complex plant data and work out how Gigaton's AI products can solve their most critical issues. Building on that, you'll need strategic thinking and commercial awareness to turn your findings into concise, compelling proposals for decision-makers at our customers, from the C-suite down. Ultimately, you'll build clarity from uncertainty, making sure we agree a shared roadmap with our customers that puts our solutions on track for significant real-world benefits before a contract is signed. Over time, you'll help us evolve our sales approach and shape the product by feeding insights and needs from the plant back to the product team, building the foundation for scaling across industries. Your main responsibilities Be the technical expert on sales calls and visits with cement plants. Build trust with process engineers and plant teams by understanding their specific plant issues and linking them to how we can help. Analyse plant data to identify and evaluate opportunities, then use this analysis to create compelling sales proposals. Lead technical discovery and identify early when a plant does not meet our ICP (ideal customer profile) criteria. Make sure relationships and plant understanding are handed over successfully to the deployment team. Act as a feedback loop into Gigaton's product and machine learning teams, providing field insights that help shape our product roadmap. Develop and iterate the pre-sales technical process, making it more impactful and more automated each time. Travel to plants and conferences , around one week per month, to understand customer environments and explain the product. What a great fit looks like Exposure to physical sciences, controls, or heavy industry , such as cement, steel, energy, manufacturing, or similar. Strong analytical skills and an outcome-oriented mindset. You can dig into industrial data, identify root causes, generate potential solutions, and explain their value in dollars and tonnes of CO2. Excellent communication skills . You can build credibility and trust in complex industrial environments with both engineers and board-level stakeholders. Comfortable being the technical voice in the conversation , presenting to senior plant leaders and operators, handling objections, and being challenged on your findings by people who have run kilns for 30 years. Naturally curious and keen to learn about the industry, the technology, and each individual plant. You want to understand the root cause behind every question and objection so you can solve the right problem. Confident in ambiguity and able to field very specific technical questions without getting flustered. You know when you can give your understanding, when you need to go and find the answer, and how to maintain customer confidence in both situations. Willingness to travel regularly . You'll excel if You build trust easily . You can connect with plant engineers, listen deeply, and align solutions to their priorities. You'd rather diagnose than pitch . Your first instinct in a plant is to ask a better question, not to open the deck. You thrive in dynamic environments . Fast-paced, ambiguous settings excite you, and you're motivated by high-impact, mission-driven work. You have experience working in heavy industry , particularly cement, steel, energy, heavy manufacturing, or similar. Success in This Role Means Plants say yes because the technical case is clear. You build customer confidence that Gigaton can deliver high ROI, helping us hit our revenue goals without losing deals because customers don't understand or believe in our product and capabilities. Deployments are set up to succeed . We haven't overpromised to sign a contract, and our pre-contract analysis holds up once the system is live. Process engineers trust and rely on you as a partner in solving problems. Deals don't stall waiting on a technical answer . Objections get handled quickly, and customers get the answers they need in good time. 💡 You are not expected to check every box, and we'd love to hear from you even if your experience isn't an exact match. We're building a team that reflects the world we want to change. IonQ is making quantum platforms more accessible and impactful than ever before. Role At Oxford Ionics, now part of IonQ, we are building the first practical quantum computer. Our systems are based on ion traps, which hold individual atomic ions tens of microns above the surface of a chip, and we design and build them in house, bringing together optomechanics, vacuum and cryogenic technology, electronics and system infrastructure. We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Systems team and take ownership of mechanical design from first requirements through to manufacture and integration. You will work on the hardware that surrounds the quantum processor, including cryostat requirements, cooling equipment, vacuum chambers and supporting structures, often in areas where the requirements are not yet fully defined. Responsibilities: You will work alongside scientists, technicians and the wider hardware design teams to bring new systems through to manufacture. That means producing CAD designs, bills of materials and assembly drawings, managing documentation in our PLM system and working with suppliers and our manufacturing team. Our manufacturing team handles most assembly, but you will support technicians in the lab, investigate problems when they arise and make sure your designs can be built in practice. The work ranges from complex system layout to simple brackets and documentation, and you will see each piece through to completion. Key responsibilities include: Mechanically integrate multiple sub systems into one complete system, driving the overall mechanical layout. Produce 3D designs of system assemblies and infrastructure, with detailed 2D drawings and bills of materials. Design systems for vacuum pump down, gas handling and coolant management lines. Plan the routing of cables, optical fibre and other physical services throughout the system. Gather and scope requirements with scientists and engineers, then roll out upgrades and variations to system builds. Requirements: You will be a mechanical engineer with a strong design background and a practical understanding of how things are assembled and manufactured. A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience, and around five years of relevant industry experience will give you the grounding the role needs. We want someone proactive who asks questions, gathers requirements, spots the missing details and sees a job through. You will be comfortable working independently with a high degree of autonomy, while collaborating closely with scientists and engineers across disciplines. Quantum experience is not required. You'd be a great fit with: Established CAD ability, ideally in SolidWorks, with a focus on assembly structure. Experience of complex multidisciplinary systems and good assembly practice. Experience with cryogenic or vacuum systems. Familiarity with GD&T and preparing drawings for manufacture and inspection. Experience of PLM systems or thermal analysis. The total compensation package includes base salary, bonus, equity, and a range of benefits available on our career site. Compensation will vary based on individual factors such as education, qualifications, and experience of the final candidate(s), specific office location, and calibration against relevant market data and internal team equity. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Our benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans, matching 401(k), unlimited PTO and paid holidays, parental/adoption leave, legal insurance, and a home technology stipend. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided when a candidate receives an offer of employment. At IonQ, we believe in fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all while striving to identify and eliminate barriers. We empower employees to thrive by fostering a culture of autonomy, productivity, and respect. We are dedicated to creating an environment where individuals can feel welcomed, respected, supported, and valued. We are committed to equity and justice.
